NFL's Tate comes home | tate, powerhouse, home - Top News - Burlington Times News

Nice short story of this kid and how much of a pleasant person he is in his hometown.

The kid has character and lots of upside,I can only hope that injuries do not decide his pro fate before he has a chance to go out there and prove others wrong who passed up on this kid though the first few rounds.

I am expecting Tate to be our 3rd or 4th receiver in 2010 depending on the status of Welker

We could really use this kid to step up in a big way at WR and on ST in 2010.

Still nothing definitive on his second knee injury but the article says nothing about surgery or rehab this offseason so while is doesn't SAY it, I'm reading that as most likely he didn't tear an ACL again.

Had hoped he would be our #3 along with our future punt returner...

Probably some good ligament damage but the fact he is at home and spending time with Family and friends instead of having surgery is a good sign

Question and concern is will he be like a Crable and continue to struggle with injuries? or will he come back strong and surprise us.

    No haircut/hazing initiations?

If true, that's a change long overdue. ;)

    Same here.

Maybe it's just me being hopeful, but part of me always assumed Tate was IR'd with a minor injury that might've been a matter of weeks (MCL, perhaps), and they just thought the roster spot was too valuable at that point. I think Reiss and the others might have jumped the gone in assuming it was ACL, but we'll see.

Reiss never actually said ACL, he said he heard it was ligament damage to the opposite knee. Many read that as "torn ACL" but it could have been the MCL or PCL and, as you said, they just shut it down save the roster spot and let him rehab fully.

Hard to count on a guy that has had knee problems like he has had each of the past 2 seasons. If he can step in and be our #3 WR that is just what we need, regardless I think we need to add 2 WR's this off season since we cannot really depend on Tate.

You can't depend on Tate Or Welker next season which certainly will require the draft to be looking for some WR talent, because other than Moss there is no a guarantee for ANY of the other WRs to be on the 2010 roster including Wes and Edelman looks like a keeper but one never knows - this position is about as drained as it ever was before.

You can count on Edelman to be back in 2010. I dont know if you could say he will take the place of Welker, but he will definitely play a role in next years team until Welker can return. I would look to add a WR in FA, to be the #3 WR and draft another one possibly in the 2nd round. Our WR's next year in order look to be: Moss, Edelman, FA addition, Tate/draft pick, Aiken (mostly ST though).

He tore his ACL, and we brought him back too early resulting in some level of injury, and that's supposed to mean that he's chronically injury prone? I don't understand the rationale. Bring any player back from injury too soon and their risk of re-injury increases astronomically. The Pats are lucky that their stupid doesn't seem to have caused a major injury.

As for counting on Tate for 2010, I suspect the team doctors have a good idea at this point. Assuming a non-operative injury (or aggravation of his original injury) which occurred over 2 months ago, and with 6 months to training camp, I would expect him to be fully healed.

What Edelman has done in his rookie season, especially in the playoffs has assured him a WR spot next year even when Welker's return. Edelman is not a back up to Welker, BB will find some way to use this guy. The guy has got skills (4th and 7 play).

I could see Edelman playing a role on returning kicks next year as well

I certainly hope we're not going into the season a walking IR guy waiting to happen as our #3 WR.

Edelman, IMO, is exactly a backup to Welker.

Backups, at many positions including WR, are guys who can start competently when they're needed to, and who earn snaps even when they're not starting.

Great post. If Tate is back he should compete as the number four or five and work up from there. He is like a UDFA until the Pats can find out if he can play because of injury,........ or just play period. Who says he is not going down the Bethel Johnson path (nice kid) or Chad Jackson who just did not get it?Right now he is as sure of a thing as the WR we are going to Draft of the FA we are going to pick up.

How can he be penciled in anywhere? We did that game with Crable last year and the year before. Anybody counting on him in 2010?

Love to see it work out but "Don't cut the cake until it is baked".

Presumably you're not counting on anything from Wes Welker in 2011 then, either (no, not 2010; 2011), when he'll be about as far out from his ALC tear as Tate will be in training camp this year.

Tate will be 20 months out from his original injury when training camp starts in late July. He will be 8 months out from his re-injury/2nd injury, which was non-operative. The Pats' medical staff should have a good assessment as to whether he is physically recovered. If he is, I see no reason why he can't be expected to contribute. He will have had a year to learn the playbook, and he's already showed flashes in his brief 2 game playing stint that he's not a Bethel Johnson or Chad Jackson. He's extremely motivated to learn the system and contribute, and he looked good when he was on the field for us. If the medical report on him is good, then I think there's an extremely high probability that he will contribute significantly in 2010.

Nothing is ever a sure thing. But your statement is a little severe, IMHO.
