Our young Safety is starting to look every bit the part. I'm rather excited about his development, as his hands have improved, coverage is getting better and he's getting to the QB for strip sacks on the safety blitz.

If RH is indeed finished after this season (perish the thought), I wonder what tandem we could establish, as I feel BM is becoming a very reliable defender for the Pats.

    Great job BM.

I expect another big jump in his play next year then he'll just have small, incremental improvment the rest of the way. Next year will determine if he will be a good Safety or if he'll make a few pro bowls. Worst case, he's a good solid player.

I would also note that Richard Seymour has now bettered his best previous year for sacks, with a game still to go. He still keys the DL and demands double and triple teaming. He leads all pass-rushers in QB hits as well, so even if he doesn't sack them, they know he is coming...

I thought he deserved to not only make the pro-bowl, but resume his position as an All Pro.

He has made quite of few plays this year. He has my vote for the only play maker in the Pats secondary.

He has solidified the SS spot. And this draft has quite a few quality FSs available.

LOVED seeing him come on another safety blitz and force another fumble with another sack.

My first wish would be a beast pass rusher but if not I like Taylor Mays from USC him and Meriweather would be a hell of a S tandem.

Not sure where he's projected but I like Rashad Johnson from Alabama. Coming from a Saban NFL-like defense (being the captain to boot), I think he will be a solid NFL player right away if given the chance.

As for BM, absolutely right. He's made plays ever since he started getting on the field last year, but just never had a chance to do it consistently. Now he's getting consistent opportunities and showing what he's got. Hard to believe this kid hasn't even finished the second year of his career.

Amen, my brother!!! I have been talking about this in the draft room for two years now.

The problem is there is no pass rushing demon in this draft. Last year I was drooling at the prospect of what a guy like Groves could do in our defense on third down.

And I do not see any Free Agents that excite me either.

Johnson absolutely, positively will not be there when we draft unless he has some sort of catostrophic injury in Alabama's bowl game.

    ???

He's more of a great college player than stud prospect. If we take him in the first round it will be considered a reach if the expected juniors come out.

Sey's having a great season. A big Raspberry to the naysayers, he needed to get healthy.

The sacks are great, but it seems he's replacing OLB pressure. Saw Green with pressure today, we might have to find a way to work him in some.

Huh? You're kidding, right? The first round is going to be loaded with beastly pass rushers. George Selvie, Brian Orakpo, Everette Brown, Michael Johnson, and possibly even Aaron Curry, a 4-3 OLB with the size and pass rushing ability to play in the 3-4. And that doesn't even count mid-round guys with big upside like Greg Hardy or Brandon Williams (who I saw play live a couple times at Texas Tech this year and is a personal favorite of mine, and was first team All-Big 12), who is rumored to possibly be coming out early.

A lot of those guys are juniors, but Selvie has inquired about his draft status with the NFL and the South Florida fanbase is already convinced he's leaving early, and Brown is all but confirmed to be coming out early. Either of those guys would be great fits as converted defensive ends. There's going to be a ton of talent in this draft because so many juniors are likely to declare, due to the likely changes to the rookie pay scale in the near future. If we're going after a pass rusher (and we should be), THIS is going to be the draft to do it. Moving Cassel for a first rounder could be huge this year, if we can do it.

You haven't seen enough of him yet. I have (look at my location). I've seen him every Saturday when I'm not watching the Gators. If this kid doesn't go early on in the 1st, I would be very suprised.

I watched most of their games on TV. I like him. A lot. But I doubt he makes it into the first round.

For example, Scott Wright has him as the 22nd SENIOR this year :

Fair enough. I do have a feeling, though, that as draft day looms closer, Johnson's value will definitely increase. Especially if he has a good bowl game.

I think he's more player than athlete - certainly his size is only so-so. I would love us to get him if Belichick would be OK with 2 smaller Safeties. Personally I like it as the league is so much passing now I am not sure we can afford to have the classic Harrison type Safety.

The hit he put on Leinart yesterday was awesome .. he can really blitz and he's fast .. we should call it more often

If he can get a little better in coverage, esp against the TE's he's going to be a worthy first day pick. Second obviously to Cassel he's the most improved guy on the team this year

Now if we can get another top safety from the draft to line up next to him ... then in 2 or 3 years, BW, JM, GG and ANOther will look good and young!

I pay no attention to this draft stuff since most of the people putting together top 50 lists, top pass rusher lists, etc. etc., have not been watching the games. This is easy to prove. Selvie has been getting awards as top defensive player in the BE, but he has not been anywhere near as good as UConn's DE Cody Brown, who fits in well with the Patriots' scheme as a bigger DE at 270 who can also rush the passer.

I have a Dallas friend who says that Jerry J. is thinking he needs a replacement for Romo... Without a first rounder to trade, how would Demarcus Ware look in a Patriots uniform?

He seems to be a different player from Rodney. He has great speed and great ballhawking skills. Rodney on the Patriots was best known for his tackling prowess and leadership, with above average cover skills. They both have great instincts though, and I could see Brandon being better than Rodney down the road.

Rodney is arguably one of the top 3 safeties of all time. The only defensive back ever with 30+ sacks and interceptions.

I agree, he is more football player than athlete and as a former walk on, he has played like he has something to prove on every single play for the past several years.

I think Florida exposed him a bit in the championship game, and that may drop in into the 2nd or third round, depending on how he runs.

Well, this season alone Meriweather's gotten 10% of the way to joining him (2 sacks, 4 INTs). :D
