    Great job by Meriweather
    August 6th, 2007

Cassel rattled off a nice string of completions before giving it up to rookie Brandon Meriweather. He kind of telegraphed where he was going with the ball, and Meriweather jumped in front of the receiver for the INT. He could have taken it all the way, but wisely took a knee (remember, this was a game-type situation, with the defense holding an 8-point lead).

Obviously, this is a tiny, unimportant detail in just another practice drill, but it's good to see the rook getting it. While it may be a little thing, it seems to me the kind of little thing BB will, and does, appreciate.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm getting real excited about this kid. We all know that this kid has top shelf talent. If it wasnt for those juvenile infractions (fight vs Fla Int'l & gun issue at the dorms) he would have been a top 15 choice. Now. it's things like Reiss talks about that are "The Patriot Way" that's hes doing.

This kid is the real deal. I dont know what kind of CB he'll be, but he makes plays. Period.

I was kinda hoping he'd be playin at the S position but we got alot of depth there, but ive heard nothin but good things bout him playin the CB spot. Ive heard a couple times the Pats sometimes use a defense where theres 3 safties anybody know bout this for sure? it would be cool seeing Meriweather, Wilson and Harrison at the saftey position at the same time.

I am just happy to add Merriweather and James to a healthy group of Gay, Harrison and Wilson. If we can just get Samuel back in camp to go with the continued progress of Hobbs and Sanders, our Back 4 should be a strength.

Count me in on the "this kid is a winnah" side.

I have seen him in a couple of practices and he just looks the part, he has that "it"

I love what his teammates are saying (Harrison, Welker), coaches and media folks.

Hey Zant...are you watching, you better get your butt in camp or you may find yourself in the nickle or dime role upon your return and that is no way to earn a big fat contract next year.

Hobbs / Gay / Meriweather are looking solid to me (yes, of course Zant is needed - I am hopeful but not stupid).

I know, it's really early in camp - but it's OK to think that maybe, just maybe we have ourselves a guy that starts and excells from day one???

I think it would be nice to see him in a few games before even assuming he can play corner in the NFL his first year. Its a big jump.

I agree. I started this thread so obviously I'm excited with what I've read so far, but let's just hope he continues to shine in practice and then translates that to the games. So far, though, this is the kind of positive from day one stuff we heard back with Deion Branch. Hope it keeps up.

No one is putting him in the HOF. It's good to see a rookie coming along, and "getting" it. And not looking like a "ball lost in tall grass" as someone here used to say.

Yes, but look at the alternative. We could be hearing that he's slow, that he drops interceptions, that he's arrogant and makes excuses, and especially, that Welker consistently burns him.

In fact he's holding onto interceptions, is level-headed, stays with Welker, who's one of the better slot receivers, and unlike Darrel Revis (sp?) got into camp quickly.

    So far, so good.

Doing the little things is critical for a rookie. It's basically a given that he has the talent - but Belichick can't put him on the field if he doesn't trust him to make the right decisions. Making the "little" correct mental decisions will allow Belichick to trust him and put him on the field.
