I know that short term that WR is not a position of need, but long term it is. He is fairly tall and fast. He is 30, but probably has 2-3 years left in him after this year. He excelled in the same system as the Pats' last year (over 1400 yards and 11 TDs under McDaniels in 2010).

I really doubt the Pats will trade for him, but he is an interesting trade idea especially if the Jets are interested. Personally, I would like to see a pass rusher or a safety, but it is rare to see a WR with elite ability who already knows the Pats' system available right before the trade deadline.

I'd give a third rounder for him, based on his skill set and physical ability, but I just can't see him arriving here mid-season and being on the field for an amount of plays that would make that trade worth it.

Why not? If he came from a different offense maybe. But Dan Gronkowski already said that the Broncos ran the same exact offense under McDaniels as the Pats ran. Yes, Lloyd and Brady would need to get on the same page, but unlike Ochocinco he wouldn't have to learn the offense including presnap reads and adjustments.

I don't think the Pats will make the trade, but his learning curve would be far less than a a receiver coming from another offense.

He's often raved about Brady, says he's his favorite player.

For how long is he signed?

I'd give them Edelman and a 3rd if he has a signed contract through 2012. I'd give less if he doesn't.

We have Ocho not succeeding (so far), and Branch/Welker unsigned for next year. Price hasn't seen action so we don't know his value. Edelman can't stay healthy (so far). I understand it will slow Slater/Price's continued development but Brady is going on 35 years old next season. A third for two years is worth it.

We should, at least, consider this.

Brandon Lloyd may have the best hands in NFL history. If you compiled the top 50 circus catches of all time, he'd have about 10. (Did you see the one last week? Ridiculous.)

That being said, I don't see us even looking in his direction.

Rob - just a typo fix, Lloyd is 30, not 39.. And I don't believe the Pats need him with Ocho already on the team. He'd face the same sort of learning curve.

Why are people always so quick to ditch Edelman?? Seriously. Did the guy steal your GF or something??

No offense to Dan Gronkowski, but the guy was the third tight end on the Broncos and came over to be the third tight end here. I'd wager he didn't know the entirety of either playbook, based on the fact that he plays on a very limited amount of packages and his main role on each of those is staying in to block. Not the greatest guy to get an insight on another team's offense.

The terminology and some concepts might be very similar, but I highly doubt it's the "exact same" scheme, as Dan put it. I'd be weary of Lloyd having to go through any sort of adjustment period mid-season, even if the learning curve, coming from Denver's offense to the Pats', isn't as taxing as what Ocho seemingly is going through to grasp the system.

John Fox must be pulling himself red raw right now. He couldn't wait to ditch the passing game and get it to a run heavy offense.

Can't wait to hear the Denver locals congratulate and froth over 5/20 passing performances led by the almighty.

Edelman has been this boards binky for 3 years now. He had a good rookie year and that's about it. I think "Edel" is Hungarian for "average" ...as in JAG.

Edelman is a competent backup WR.

To be a competent NFL backup at a different position than you played in college is a considerable accomplishment. patfanken couldn't pull it off. Nobody else here could ever have come remotely close to pulling it off. (Did anybody else here even play football in college, let alone make it to an NFL training camp?)

But we've nothing from Edelman to suggest he's more than the Russ Hochstein of slot receivers. Yes, he's made a few outstanding plays. But if you never make an outstanding play as a WR, you're not even a competent backup.

I looked up "damning with faint praise" on Google....it came up with this...

That's just not true. This is only his 3rd year, but he's been a helluve punt returner for this team despite not being able to break through in the pass game because of the ridiculous depth in front of him..
