Re: Pro Bowlers to be announced tonight...who goes from Pats?

Anyone hear of the Patriot alternates yet?

I would have to assume Moss is one. Bodden, Koppen, Gostkowski, Tully others?

Why in the world hell is Wayne starting over Welker??
He shouldn't even be there!!!
Welker should start, if not wes, brandon marshall, but never Wayne!!!

Anyone else see when Brady was selected, Marshall Faulk once again put him down, saying Matt Shaub deserved it more...pathetic...

matt schaub IS having a statistically better season, so it's not surprising.

Long and Faneca making it is a disgrace.

Also, congratulations to DeSean Jackson for making it at two positions.

Marshall vs Moss.

Marshall has 33 more receptions, but 69 less yards, 3 less TD's, and 2 less first downs.

That's right, a guy with 33 more receptions has LESS first downs.

Moss 15.2 YPC, Marshall 11.1

Moss in Marshall's shoes = 1535 yards, 17 TD.

Welker, Brady and Wilfork are the only Patriots even CLOSE to deserving of this honor. Mankins was not quite awful, but not good this season.

Of the three "main" passing stats, Brady leads in two.

More TD's (28-27)
Less INT's (12-14)

Schaub 255 more yards, 18 more completions.

Although to his credit, Schaub has had his TE out for half the year. And no real standout after Andre.

Kudos and congratulations.

yep yet another wr having a better year than marshall

Re: Pro Bowlers to be announced tonight...who goes from Pats?

popularity contest...

Randy doesn't deserve to be there

leading the league in TDs is stupid

Re: Pro Bowlers to be announced tonight...who goes from Pats?

When is the last pro bowl Brady played in? It is an honor but he will not play.

Yeah man I agree that he won't play cuz we are gonna go to the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!

Matt Schaub's team doesn't run the football as good as the Patriots do, so they have to pass all the time. The Pats can run the ball very good, yet Brady still has big stats this year even after missing a whole year.

Probowl game is a bunch of horse manure PR by NFL to promote its product. It is for publicity whores like Manning and LdT and Marshall Faulks. I hope Pats will be play in a real football game as a team in feburary.

Marshall has a bigger attitude; that is a pre-requisite for a "star" WR these days.

Not if you adjust for strength of schedule.

By NFL passer rating, Schaub is rated 99.1 vs Brady's 97.4, i.e a 1.7 point difference. As a crude comparison, I calculated average passer rating per game for both players to date. Brady has faced defenses with an average NFL passer rating of 76.98, Schaub 83.69, i.e a 6.71 point handicap for Brady.

Cold, Hard Football Facts.com: 2009 Defensive Passer Rating

But an even better comparison is to use Football Outsider's DVOA measure, which is compiled per play rather than per game, and is adjusted for strength of opposition. Brady is 2nd in the league (to Rivers) with a 45.1% DVOA, while Schaub is 6th at 33.7%. Brady's total production is even higher, he's rated #1 with a DYAR of 2107 yards, while Schaub is 5th with a DYAR of 1677 yards. One could argue that DYAR is the best proxy for MVP considerations, as it measures total contribution by the quarterback.

So Schaub has been good this year, certainly worthy of Pro Bowl consideration, but only Rivers in the entire league is better than Brady on a per-play basis, and Brady is #1 in total production, and by a good margin.

Brady hasn't looked as good this year because he's played 7 games against top quartile pass defenses and only 3 vs bottom quartile ones. Schaub has only played 4 games vs the top quartile teams and has had 6 games vs the bottom ones.

It's nice to see these players honored. I have two question. First, does anyone here want to see any Patriot play in this game? Secondly, does anybody here actually watch this game?
