Can't believe Sunday night will mark the 14th time these 2 legends will square off against each other. Couple questions I want to ask?

Where does this rivalry stand with you? I missed out on the Bird Vs Magic rivalry how does this one compare? What was your favorite game in the rivalry? Where do both rank in the discussion of Goat Qb?

I'd rather them beat the other Manning in a big game. Doesn't look like that will happen this year, though. At this point I don't really care about the rivalry, I just want the Patriots to win and go for the number 2 seed.

My favorite game in the series is probably the 2010 game where James Sanders had the pick to close it out, but I think most people will either say the 38-34 game in the 2003 regular season (a lot of big plays in that game, I think Bethel Johnson had a huge KR TD, plus the goal line stand) or either playoff game in 2003 or 2004.

Both are around top 5 all time.

I think the Bird/Magic match up were more competitive. Magic had the edge in wins in direct match ups winning 11 games vs. Bird's 7 wins.

Brady owns the Brady/Manning match up winning 9 out of 13 games. And Brady won the I think the first 7 or 8 games straight. Manning couldn't beat the Pats until the Pats took a step back after the Super Bowl runs.

Also, Magic and Bird actually played against each other. Brady plays the Colts/Broncos defense and Manning plays the Pats' defense. So it is different. You actually saw Magic cover Bird and visa versa. So even when Manning comes into town it is a big deal, but it really isn't the same type of rivalry.

Screw Rodney Harrison. Guy couldn't even knock a ball pinned to a JAG receiver's helmet away.

Why does Brady always get hurt for having a defense? It's not like Indy's were complete garbage. Hell all we heard last year is how great the Denver defense was. But what happened? In the big moment Manning pee'd on himself again.

If Manning is as great as everyone says he is, shouldn't he be able to overcome an average defense? I mean he is so great according everyone in the sports media that talks about him.

He's been doing it this year. Denver defense is #23 overall (#28 pass) and #24 in points.

Also the majority of his one and done's and playoff loses are not because of the defense, they are because of him.

Manning didn't start to win until the Irsays got some rules changed in Manning's favor and one of those games (the classic 'Belichick goes for it on 4th down" one) the refs blew it. It was clear forward progress on that play.

Even if Indy's D#s were trash, Manning's choke jobs contributed more to the loses than the defense. Just wish the media would give Brady some credit already.

his defense in most of his playoff losses held up its end. 20-3 /21-17 losses are not on the defenses.

I don't think you are right about this one. I'm not 100% sure if it was 4 or 5 games, but that's how many times he gave his team a lead within the last 2 minutes of a playoff game, just to see it from the sidelines as his defense coughs it up.

It is not an excuse, it is a fact, those Indy teams most of the times had average, or even terrible defenses, especially against the run. Manning lost a playoff game where he went for 400+ yards and 4TD's/0 INT's if i remember correctly.

I'm not saying Manning is better than Brady, but they are extremely close in terms of skills, and the supposed difference between their mental strength is over-exaggerated, or flat out doesn't exist.

Manning had a higher QBR in the playoffs up until last year, maybe even now. Personally, i think Brady has one big advantage, he doesn't overthink as much as Manning. Manning's biggest flaw is that he is sometimes overthinking the game.

I rate Brady higher than Manning at the moment, but if Manning would be able to win another superbowl, i'm pretty sure most expert would rate him higher than Brady. Brady is great, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't nearly the player early in his career that he is now.

His peak from 2005 till 2009 was much more impressive to me than his early years, even though he couldn't win another Super Bowl. Also, if Brady manages to win another one with this roster this year, or next year, i will rate him as 2nd all-time below Montana, and another MVP would probably seal it for him.

I know you guys will probably hate this article, but i think it is a spot on piece.

    This

Remind me how Indy did in 2007 with the #1 ranked defense in the league (based on yards allowed, #3 based on scoring)?

    NE's average defensive rating, 2001-2012: 18th
IND average defensive rating, 2001-2010 (with Manning): 17th

(these are yards-allowed ratings, because that's what the league tracks and is easiest to find)

And since that fateful game in January 2007 when Manning led the Colts back from a 21-3 deficit2 to win a 38-34 classic over Brady's Patriots, Brady's career has been full of disappointing performances in big games.

Since the 2006 season Peyton is 2-5 with 4 one and done's and a SB loss. Brady is 5-5 with 2 one and done's and two SB losses.

In both of Brady's SB losses he led them on the winning drive before his defense surrendered the lead. In Manning's SB loss he threw a pick six to seal their fate.

Brady was sacked 8 times between the two SB. The Patriots rushed for 45 and 83 yards in the two SBs.

Manning wasn't sacked and the Colts rushed for 99 yards.

    Ya it's spot on.

I guess barnwell doesn't know how nfl scheduling works

Hey hack idiot that's because they both play for AFC teams and those teams win their division's every year. Division winners in the same conference always play each other the next year.

Also hilarious how that idiot barnwell listed the QBs Brady's beaten. Ya well Manning's only SB win was against Rex Grossman.

Oh and btw Manning also lost to Sanchez at home.

People need to stop saying this. Yes, he took the lead 14-10 in SB42, but how about the rest of the game, against a team you put 38 on a month and a half before? Only one team in SB history has won while scoring 14 or less.

In SB46, he did not lead them on the winning drive. They scored 17 points with 26:30 left to go in the second half, and didn't score a single point afterwards. Brady took a safety on the first play and threw an awful pick late. He's as much to blame as anybody for that loss.

You can say that about both QBs. Tom Brayd would have 2 more rings, been the only QN to ever have 5 of them and a perfect 19-0 seasons if it were not for his defense giving up a lead in the last 2 minutes of a playoff game.

And as for the Indy teams having average or terrible defenses when they have gone one and done, well thats just not true. In the 8 times Manning has gone one and done, 5 of those teams have had a top 7 defense. 7th overall in 2002 & 2008, 4th in 2012, 2nd in 2005 and 1st in 2007.

And Manning has never lost a playoff games with a line of 400 yards, 4 tds and 0 ints. You must be thinking of the 2007 playoff game vs. SD. He did have 400 yards and 4 TDs, but he also had 2 ints. One of which happened on the SD 4 yard line, which obviously took points of the board.
