I wouldn't call it a decline just yet, but I guess you could say we are entering the twilight of his prime. Brady's velocity and trajectory of his passes are still top notch. Brady's been remarkably healthy throughout his career, but things you have to keep an eye out for are those nagging shoulder injuries(i.e--rotator cuff) that plague many older qbs in their careers.

Protecting Brady is most important....and with this being said, I would love the Pats to morph their offense a bit more to a smash mouth running style and limit Brady's throws to 25-30 attempts a game. That way we don't put Brady at risk and heighten pressure on our inexperienced OL(without Scarnecchia also).

I really like what Denver did in 1998 in how they utilized Elway when he was at the end of his career. Elway's attempts were down(27.4 attempts), but Terell Davis was the focal point of the offense and that saved Elway physically. Elway had fewer opportunities but was extremely efficient in their SB year. I really like the Pats RB options and think this style is possible.

Agreed. Beef up the interior line with solid center and guards. Run the ball and let Brady play off the running game with play action and double tight end sets

I'm really going to enjoy the next 7 years. Because I don't think Brady is retiring any time soon but there are going to be posts like this all over, constantly.

Hell, JI has Brady retiring in 2 years tops. Manning is going to last for forever, though, being the golden child.

Top 3 scoring offense in the league despite injuries and crazy turnover. He's a machine and he's gonna keep going for a while now. Like Belichick I think he'll stick around longer than people think.

Here's a leading indicator of Brady's plans.
Agree with those who say he's CA bound post football.
But consider this…
He's building a mansion in Brookline due to be finished this summer. Is that a move by a guy looking at a 2-3 season time horizon? NO.
He'll work to stay in shape to play until 40 or so. BB will make the call.
He's not a running QB whose legs will curtail his effectiveness.

I think he will retire after the 2020 season, or maybe I just think it would be cool if he entered the league in the 2000 season and exited in 2020 season. That ESPN special will be called “The Brady Fifth” for 1/5 of a century.

Honestly, I feel like Brady spends a limited amount of his time in California even during the offseason. He is out there for the winter months (January – March), but if you had the money and did not have commitments in the New England area would you spend those months in Boston? The weather sucks around here, and it is beautiful out there. The rest of the year, I see Brady either in town or in New York.

By see I mean in the press, etc. we do not party together...:snob:

I think he will be part of the franchise after his playing career, the Kraft’s may even allow him to purchase a small ownership stake in it. They have other ventures that they are moving into with Casinos and unlike his significant others Robert is not getting any younger.

I spend those months on Florida's gulf coast, so yeah

But Brady has a kid who lives in CA and his family lives in CA and Gisele likes CA so I see him mostly living in CA in the 2020s

With receivers who have a full season under their belt, I see Brady having more reliable targets next season.

IMO there's no way he won't be better. All the following need to happen for his #'s to not improve:

-Zero successful offseason acquisitions on offense
-Edelman not resigned or has a major injury
-Amendola has another borderline useless season d/t injuries
-Gronk suffers another freak injury causing him to miss most of the year again
-Dobson has another injury plagued year or regresses considerably
-KT shows zero progression in his game
-Vereen misses extensive time again
-One of the above doesn't happen but the player turns out to be a serial killer

When you think about it, barring a miracle it really can't possibly be that 'bad' of a season again.

Not an expert on polls but shouldn't the answers be
Better/Worse opposed to yes/no

Anyway, I assume yes means better and no more worse. At this point who knows but if I had to bet I say he is worse. Brady will be older. My guess is that Gronk will be back mid season, Amendola will continue to be average, Dropson and Thompkins will improve and BB will sign a few Wal*Mart value receivers/Tight ends that had their best days four seasons ago.

I predict he will be better or worse in 2014, too.

Unless another receiver they are counting on gets arrested for murder...:D

Seriously, I voted yes. Even if Brady's play falls off a cliff because he is getting older, the rookies are rookies no more and E!SPN idiots forget that those "individual" stats are in a team game.

Impossible to answer this right now. We won't know whether 2013 was the first season in a decline until he gets better receiving options, better protection on the interior OL, and has health and continuity around him. Even with what he had to put up with at WR this year (which is almost inexcusable given his age and what he's done for this franchise), he still threw for better than 4,000 yards. IMO, I don't think he's declining yet. But he's getting up there in age. If Gronk can stay healthy (probably not), they can add a second TE option (FA or draft), they can upgrade at least Wendell if not Connolly as well (probably... hopefully), Dobson and his other receivers develop (likely), and they make a move for a veteran WR in FA then I think he can, and probably will, be better in 2014 than he was in 2013. But the end is getting near. That can't be doubted, unfortunately.

..."what he said." :rocker:
I couldn't have said it better and I wouldn't say it any differently.

His performance this season, in a vacuum, was as good as its been other than perhaps 2007 & 2011.

Unfortunately, it wasn't in a vacuum, and he had to deal with a weak OL, inexperienced wide receivers, no production at TE, and no third down back for half of the season.

I'd expect his production to be better next year when the sum of the parts around him is greater. And healthier.

If Brady had played even a good game against the Broncos the Patriots would have been in the Super Bowl. Oh well, there is always next year right?? Been saying that since 05...
