Hawaii Bowl Hawaii vs. Notre Dame
When: Dec 24, 2008 Where: Honolulu, HI Time: 8:00 PM EST TV: ESPN

Players to watch: Hawaii

#94 David Veikune, DE, (rSr), 6-3, 265 - Late round prospect.

#57 Jake Ingram, LS, (Sr), 6-3, 236 - The #1 LS in this class; for DaBruinz. :D

#55 John Estes, C, (rJr), 6-2, 295 - NFL Draft Scout's #2 C in the 2010 class; Miami's C Samson Satele is out of Hawaii, though I can't say if they have/had the same coaches.

Players to watch: Notre Dame

#40 Maurice Crum Jr., ILB, (rSr), 5-11, 235 - 4 year starter, 2 time team Captain, team MVP, onfield leader; a little small for NE's 3-4, but he's playing in one now under the former Georgia Tech DC Jon Tenuta (the guy who coached Guyton and Robertson, BB/SP seem to like something about his players).

#77 Michael Turkovich, OG, (Sr), 6-5, 305 - LT, projected to move inside by NFL Draft Scout; UDFA.

#27 David Bruton, FS, (Sr), 6-2, 212 - From NFL Draft Scout: A two year starter for the Fighting Irish, Bruton is one of only five players to rank in the top 100 in the country in total tackles (93), solo tackles (57), interceptions (3) and forced fumbles (2). His 93 tackles this season ranks third in school history for defensive backs. The Miamisburg, Ohio native has made a name for himself this season by coming up with the big play when the Irish needed it most. His five forced turnovers this season have come inside the Irish 27-yard line, with three coming inside their own 6-yard line.

#28 Kyle McCarthy, SS, (rJr), 6-1, 205 - UDFA

#74 Sam Young, OT, (Jr), 6-8, 330 - Mid-round projection for the 2010 class.

#55 Eric Olsen, OG, (Jr), 6-5, 303 - Mid-round projection for the 2010 class.

#49 Toryan Smith, ILB, (Jr), 6-1, 245 - A top 50 prospect in 2010 for NFL Draft Scout, he's got the size and he's being developed by Guyton's and Robertson's old DC in a 3-4.

Independence Bowl Louisiana Tech vs. Northern Illinois
When: Dec 28, 2008 Time: 8:15 PM EST TV: ESPN

Players to watch - Louisiana Tech

#34 Antonio Baker, FS, (Jr), 5-11, 200 - Late rounds.

Players to watch - Northern Illinois

#51 Larry English, OLB, (rSr), 6-3, 254 - Round Two projection, DE-OLB conversion prospect with 31.5 career sacks and 66 career TFL.

Motor City Bowl Central Michigan vs. Florida Atlantic

Players to watch - Central Michigan

#74 Andrew Hartline, OT, (rSr), 6-5, 294 - UDFA, good looking LT who could be a nice project for the Scarnecchia Big Man Dancing Academy.

#98 Frank Zombo, DE, (rJr), 6-4, 260 - UDFA, showed some strength against the run on the edge.

#13 Dan LeFevour, QB, (rJr), 6-3, 228 - There is some talent there, but I don't think he's a fit for NE.

#7 Bryan Anderson, WR, (rJr), 6-5, 214 - Did not stand out against FAU talent.

Players to watch - Florida Atlantic

#56 Frantz Joseph, ILB, (rSr), 6-2, 235 - Tackling machine, showed some hip wiggle to slide around OL, unlikely to be a good fit for NE.

#92 Jervonte Jackson, DT, (rSr), 6-4, 300 - Not strong enough for a NE 3-4 DL.

#11 Rusty Smith, QB, (rJr), 6-5, 230 - Needs a good QB coach.

#46 William Rose, FB, (rJr), 6-1, 228 - FAU uses him as a mix of blocking FB and RB, good receiver.

Poinsettia Bowl (11) TCU vs. (9) Boise State

Players to watch - TCU

#29 Stephen Hodge, SS, (Sr), 6-0, 214 - Reminded me of Rodney the way he was around the ball and making plays, including the game clinching interception. He also returns Kicks. TCU plays a 4-2-5 defense and he played more of a Rover role - like Rodney in the Nickel.

#4 Steven Coleman, FS, (rSr), 6-2, 208 - He stayed deep and off the screen, but did have one big PBU in the fourth quarter, and a hold when he was beaten for a TD if he didn't hold.

#98 Jerry Hughes, OLB, (Jr), 6-2, 248 - I can't add anything to Ochmed's remarks above.

Players to watch - Boise State

#41 Ian Johnson, RB, (rSr), 5-11, 198 - I like this kid as a poor man's Kevin Faulk - he needs to get a little stronger and improve his blitz reads, but he did a nice job pass blocking and receiving.

#44 Kyle Gingg, SS, (rSr), 5-11, 212 - Boise moved him down to play WLB, he was around the ball a lot and had at least one PBU covering the TE.

#19 Vinny Perretta, WR, (rSr), 5-09, 195 - He really reminds me of a faster Wes Welker, not quite as quick, but a play maker.

#18 Ellis Powers, SS, (rSr), 5-10, 204 - They had him playing some SLB and started a freshman.

#1 Kyle Wilson, CB, (rJr), 5-10, 190 - Needs another year of college.

#9 Jeremy Childs, WR, (rJr), 6-0, 196 - Nice looking WR.

Players not on my short list who jumped out at me:

TCU

#23 Aaron Brown, RB, (Sr), 6-1, 196 - Shifty back, ran with a lot of power and looked more like he was 216.

#86 Shae Reagan, TE, (rSr), 6-3, 258 - During the broadcast the announcing team reported NFL Scouts have been checking this kid out and were high on him.

#42 Matt Panfil, OLB, (rSr), 6-2, 242 - High School Safety converted to LB, then converted to DE, earned MWC 2nd Team honors, showed up with a couple big plays.

#39 Jason Phillips, ILB, (rSr), 6-1, 235 - Playmaking ILB who earned All-MWC honors as either 1st or 2nd team all four years he played. Between him and the DL TCU was impressive against the run, and he made a great play in coverage to force Boise State to kick a FG in their last scoring opportunity.

Boise State

#40 Richie Brockel, FB, (rJr), 6-2, 248 - Nice looking H-back/TE/FB.

#98 Ryan Winterswyk, DE, (rSo), 6-4, 259 - Made some big plays, a kid to watch.

#23 Jeron Johnson, SS, (rSo), 5-11, 192 - Big hitter, play maker.

A comment on the game: Folks, if you missed it you missed a whale of a good game between two evenly matched teams. I had a couple quibbles with the officiating, both uncalled safety penalties against TCU, one a helmet to helmet sack of the Boise State QB, the other a horse collar tackle. They were a little picky with pass interference, but not outrageously so.

Montana @ James Madison for a Division 1 semi-final: All these kids are UDFA candidates.

Montana - Announcers talked about "a lot of NFL Scouts" visiting Montana to check out the OL and FS Colt Anderson.

#69 J.D. Quinn, C, (Sr), 6-4, 305 - Athletic Center, transfer from Oklahoma where he had been a starter, but ran into trouble with the NCAA for accepting money from a car dealership. He had a DUI in 2007. UDFA prospect.

#79 Colin Dow, C, (rSr), 6-5, 304 - LG, part of a roadgrader OL that showed good mobility to pull.

#19 Colt Anderson, FS, (rSr), 5-10, 195 - Three time all Big Sky, leading tackler, may be a bit slow for the NFL, but good instincts.

#14 Cole Bergquist, QB, (rSr), 6-2, 206 - A bit undersized, but pretty good accuracy on his throws, possible camp fodder.

#91 Mike Stadnyk, DE, (rSr), 6-4, 248 - Drafted by CFL team already. Had a nice FF to kill a James Madison drive inside the red zone. Did a nice job against the run.

James Madison

#7 Rodney Landers, RB, (rSr), 6-0, 220 - Rushing QB, #8 rusher in FCS with 1770 yds, avg 6.6/rush. 63% passing for 1534 yds. He'd make a nice power RB.

#34 Marcus Haywood, FS, (rSr), 6-0, 190 - Speedy kid.

For Florida State today keep an eye on their special teams captain #49 Ben Lampkin. Switched this year from LB to DE, but because of his size would have to move back to LB or even SS if he gets a shot in the NFL. It's a good story, a kid who was originally a walk-on, not only earns a scholarship but also becomes the 'Noles special teams captain. Nobody hears about it though because the Rolle story. Maybe he can have a career as a special teams player in the NFL.

#99 Everette Brown, DE, (rJr), 6-4, 252 - 1st round projection.

Binkie Alert! Brown FSU is my early binkie, although I don't think the Pats will take an OLB in round 1.

6' 225, he'll need to make it on Special Teams to make the Pats, but you have to love a gutsy kid.

Florida State vs. Wisconsin - impact player of the game at 12:34 in the 3rd Quarter.

#43 Graham Gano, K, (Sr), 6-1, 193 - PK and P, this cat is kicking coffin corners like he's Mattyice tossing bullets to Wes Welker. Winner of the Lou Groza award for PK, he's a double barreled leg man...if NE does get a 3rd round comp for Asante, this kid would be a good investment in Special Teams.

I watched a recording I made of the Central Michigan @ Northern Illinois game, if anyone else watchs this bowl game tonight, please keep an eye out for Northern Illinois #99 Craig Rusch, DT, 6-4, 265 (RS SR). He's about 20 lbs. too light, but he might be worth a UDFA signing as a 3-4 DE: get him in to work with Woicik & Nash, send him home to build his strength and re-sign him to the Practice Squad during the season. I thought he showed good strength at the point of attack, good ball awareness, and great hustle.

On a related note: This was the second look I had of Central Michigan's LT Hartline. I like that kid for a priority UDFA signing - he was working against English and looked good...English not so much, but I'll take a second look tonight.

#88 Hakeem Nicks, WR, (Jr), 6-1, 210 - Rd 2 projection for 2010 by NFL Draft Scout.

Nicks made himself some serious money last night....

I would love to see the Pats take a late round flyer on White. The kid is the ONLY COLLEGE QB EVER TO WIN 4 BOWL GAMES!. He could be an interesting "slash" player 3rd QB.

Congrats to Lord Favrequad for making this thread and forum really relevant.

He looked miserable out there today. No gas left in the tank. He choked and now he gets to go out a loser. You's think for prides sake alone, he would have come out hot, but he was miserable from the get go.

Although Wisconsin got blown up, in the earlier part of the game, it was apparent that Hill likes to run behind Urbik, who was road grading FSU DL guys off the LOS with ease. If it was not for Unger of Oregon, I would be extremely high on taking Urbik on day two of the draft. His pass protection skills needs some Dante loving that is for sure, but as a road grader, he is one of if not the best in college this year.

Pat White... reminds me of Randel El or Kordell Stewart. Could work as a #3 WR for the Pats if his hands are good.
