Interesting...yes a minor move..but?? ONE less...the pruning goes on....I am a bit surprised about that..as many had him on a sleeper list of possibles to make the team. Obviously, not going to happen.

My guess is that most cuts at rookie camp are behavior-related, not performance-based. To paraphrase Strother Martin from "Cool Hand Luke", 'they got to get their minds right.'

Yes...I wasn't surprised it was DB...but WAS suprised it was Smith. Seemed like he had waited to sign because NE was one of the places he wished to play..liked their style..and was a hard hitter. One of the PSW guys thought he was a big time sleeper who could have crashed the 53...THAT was a surprise....who is next?? Another DB or 2....or possibly a WR...the whittling will take place over time.

Sam Smith was a 200 pound linebacker trying to make the team as a safety.

His chance to make the team was extremely small. Before he was cut, the

Patriots had 21 defensive backs on the roster. BB said recently that the

Patriots will start training camp with 15 or 16 defensive backs like last

year.

No surprise, BB has a lot of depth to sort through at Safety, if anything, this gives the kid a chance to try out for another team running the Tampa two-step - like Indy.
