Normally I am not a huge fan of Bleacher Report writers but Miller is the best one in my opinion, anyway Miller ranked the top 75 safeties in the NFL; McCourty was #2 behind just Earl Thomas. On the flipside, former Patriot Pat Chung came in last in the rankings at #75. The Patriots enter 2014 with the best safety and the best cornerback in the AFC, who would have thought that, would happen.

No way the Broncos have 3 of the top 20 safeties in the league. Mike Adams and Rahim Moore were terribly overrated on this list

Lots of other questionable rankings too

Numerous former Patriots near the bottom of that list. Thank goodness the secondary looks to finally have become an area of strength again.

That alone should tell you that Mr. 1 Int McCourty is overrated. We had NO! Playmakers at Safety with McCourty and Gregory combined. For a coverted CB to Safety McCourty doesn't remind me of Ed Reed in his prime.

    No Jersey Selected

Now all they need to do is draft a hard hitting stud or an athletic SS/LB hybrid like Pierre-Louis and they'll be set. The CB's can cover for the rookie as he learns on the job.

It's hard to be a "play maker" when the odd report pops up throughout the season that coaches (Doug Marrone in week 1 is the one I remember) supposedly instructing the QB to avoid McCourty.

Wait and see what he can do this year with Revis & Browner on the outside freeing McCourty up to roam more.

Bleacher report is still garbage even if it's complimentary of the Patriots.

No, it tells you that your player evaluation skills are wanting (and I'm being generous here).

Despite just one interception in 2013 the only player with more interceptions then McCourty, since McCourty entered the NFL in 2010 is Richard Sherman.

Devin McCourty has been in the league for 4 seasons during that time he has –

    - 15 interceptions
    - 7 forced fumbles
    - 52 pass defends
    - 13 run stuffs
    - 1 fumble recovery
    - 1 sack

Over that same period and time, the player widely considered the best play making safety in the NFL Earl Thomas has –

    - 15 interceptions
    - 5 forced fumbles
    - 32 pass defends
    - 9 run stuffs
    - 3 fumble recoveries
    - 0 sacks

You great underestimate how good of a player Devin McCourty is and have many plays he does in fact make.

I don't put any stock into the article, but when a free safety is truly good, QBs do their best to avoid them. Football 101.

Just for the record, while this guy's actually a legitimate writer, "Bleacher Report" is a meaningless attempt to appeal to authority. It's an open forum mocked up to look like a blog in order to take people's contributions and use them to drive traffic and thus ad revenue (Google doesn't help, since Bleacher Report articles show up as "news"), but anyone is able to post an 'article.' Brady6 could (and probably should) post his thousand word rants there. But that's not journalism, it's a money making scheme.

There are some decent writers there (their 'featured columnists' like this guy) but one wonders why they can't find a job anywhere else.

Talk about cherry picking. I guess using McCourty's safety stats alone is far less complimentary so it hurts the narrative.

What does that matter you either make plays as a DB or you don't. The only number that would be inflated by playing CB are the pass defends.

If "pass defends" are inflated why won't that apply to INTs?
Compare their Safety stats. McCourty's rookie year was fantastic. He hasn't lived up to that promise that's why he got moved.
With that said, I can't rank the NFL safeties.

Its a fan writer website, so some of the stuff is good, some is bad, but quoting it as an expert source is silly. I will say though, this writer is one of the more legit ones.

I think Erik Frenz is the best on bleacher report.

I think, if you're going to put so much effort into your screeds, you may as well put them up for the world to see.
