The grass field sure looked good that first week, except for a spot around the 15 yard line.

Yeah that game was brutal. Talk about doing JUST enough to win. Maroney was really good though.

Brady was like 1-10 to start off. I was so pissed.

I think we had three yards passing in the first half.

The worst part though was on the first play when Brady gets whacked and we were immediately down 7 points.

I forgot about the huge break we got when the 4th quarter pick runback by the Bills was ruled out of bounds when it clearly was not. That could have very well made the difference.

When Kevin Faulk lined up at WR (on the TD throw), a LB was on him. I didn't remember that last time.

There was no break. A block in the back penalty is from the spot of the foul. The announcers were wrong, they blew the whistle because the return was over after the penalty not because he went out of bounds. If he's returned it for a TD with no whistle the ball would have been at the same place - 10 yards back from the spot of the foul.

In that case the whistle would have been an accidental whistle. A play is never whistled dead in mid play because of a penalty (ok, ok, except when an defender is offsides and is unabated to the quarterback). It is my feeling that the refs flat out blew it and did rule him out of bounds. THey woudln't do it for the penalty because they let the play run out and let the Pats decide whether to accept or decline.

Even if they did rule him out of bounds it wouldn't have mattered. Even if they did return it for a TD the Patirots would have accepted the penalty and the ball would have been put in the same place, so the semantics don't really matter.

I will say, Kevin Faulk's diving catch was definitley the highlight of the game. Just the fact that he layed out for it and held onto it.

Whether the whistle should have been blown is irrelevant, the Bills would still have gotten the ball where they did. It had no impact on the game.

I agree that in the end the semantics really don't matter, but since we are being technical, the whistle never should have been blown for a penalty.

After all, the Patriots could have forced a fumble on the play, which would have resulted in them declining the penalty and maintaining possession.

The point is, the refs never blow the whistle due to a penalty. They just throw the flag and let the play 'play' itself out, and sort out the flags later.

So, from that reasoning I would be led to believe that the ref blew the whistle because he thought the Bills player was out of bounds (because that would be something that you would blow the play dead for).

BUT, IF the whistle was blown due to a penalty, do not mistake that I am saying that you are wrong, for if this was the case the ref would be wrong.

right, unless the Patriots forced a fumble. It would also be relevent if the Pats committed a penalty during the continuation.
