Bill Lets Obama Turn Off the Internet | WebProNews
Are we looking like our Chinese brother?
To much freedom on the internet, they don't like me calling Obama "Jug Ears"
Where's Auntie Pelosi--
Libbies need to read their Cybersecurity Act of 2009 bill. We get less freedom each day.
Liberalism is the foundation of Freedom------:singing::singing:
Hate to ruin your circle jerk, but in times of national security there may be a reason to turn it off, and only allow emergency personnel... sounds like a common sense move to me..
can't think of a situation where it would be necessary to turn off the internet and only allow emergency personnel.......none whatsoever
In SF we have free wi-fi, its here for two reasons.
1) so people can use the internet
2) incase of an emergency (Earthquake, terrorist attack, tsunami etc) Emergency services can use the band for communications.
don't you recall on 9-11 how the interdepartmental communications was one of the tragic flaws of our response system?
"can't think of a situation where it would be necessary" -you
The bill lets you cut access to and from any given "infrastructure network". You can take down any number of servers in the U.S., and still not be able to "turn off the internet," even in the U.S. It's a lot of interconnected tubes, it turns out. If you're in Michigan and you can't get a signal in Detroit, you get it from Ontario. Then your techie buddie immediately realizes MY GOD THEY TURNED OFF THE INTERNET, because let's say, for the sake of idiotic argument, that the top 100 hubs are suddently "gone." He sets up a hub. Someone else sets up a hub. blah blah blah. It may be slow and remind everybody of dial up, but the "internet" is not "turned off."
Your actual concern would be things like privacy, rather than service/access. In other words, nobody wants to "turn off" the internet. I mean, regardless of Obama's nefarious plans for worldwide socialist dictatorship, how would stopping the display of porn help him?
I would be so pissed if he turned off while I was in the chat room during an away game.
On 9/10/2001 could you imagine what happened the next day?? You never know what is going to happen, don't you think it is better to plan for every contingency even the ones not thought of yet??... to me it sounds like common sense and somewhat surprised it was not buried in the Patriot Act.
OR when its down to you and the Scarecrow in the final bid on ebay for that grey matter.
yeah......really........communications were hosed not because the internet was available to the general public.........and public access to the internet does not interfere with emergency communications
the only logical reason for doing so is to control the information available to the general public....or at least that what you would be saying if the bush administration tried to push a bill like this
the current administration just has the need to know things before anyone else does..........its pretty pathetic
You guys love the wiretapping....you supported Bush, and gave the president those powers.
Nobody wanted to prosecute his violation of the 4th ammendment...so now look at you...
"Obama wants to control information etc....."
well, do something about it!!!! We have a legal system, call your senator!
turning off the internet does not help anyone.....
why not just shut everything? power, telephone, internet, EVERYTHING?
you're just another one who blindly believes in the benefits your god tells you
its just another means to control another part of society.......
good men (not bad men) consistently acting upon that position would act as cruelly and unjustly as the greatest tyrants. They might in some respects act even worse. Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baronâs cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. Their very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be âcuredâ against oneâs will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level with those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. But to be punished, however severely, because we have deserved it, because we âought to have known betterâ, is to be treated as a human person made in Godâs image. - CS Lewis
Paranoia strikes deep, into your heart it will creep..
Do you really believe any of the shyt you type??, better get back from the edge.. just because you do not envision it, does not mean it will not happen, personally cannot envision it either.. all of this is taking place in the context of a cyber security and maybe due to the need to protect our evolving "smart grid"..
If the gov was aware of a pending attack on the internet and all of our systems could be compromised, and the gov't did nothing to stop it.. would you be upset at their inaction???
Talk about a straw-man argument.
errrr........so........I guess it would make sense to turn off the Hoover dam if there was a threat to Brunswick NAS
I'm not on any edge, but I can be assured of how YOU would behave if it was Dick Cheney up there turning off the internet..........at least I believe its pointlessness regardless of who is turning it off
Never voiced much about this stuff when George & Richard were in office, kinda like going through extra security in airports.. no big deal.. if they wanted to eavesdrop so be it, they would be pretty bored if they checked my stuff out.. I am a big fan of security and stuff that makes us all safer... you should not assume.
it is not an assumption..........your bias is clear
I also don't care if anyone listens in on my phone calls.........they wouldn't listen for long
but in this technological age, there is no benefit other than to control in turning off the internet..........as in controlling information
Obviously you are quick to judge, spend some time review what I have written previously.. have always been consistent on this.. but you know all.. don't talk about bias.
I would like to think not, but if it happened would not like to convene congress.. btw it was a bipartisan bill.. S773 is still in committee..
If you want to read a copy of this bill, which is still in committee.. here is a copy, if you do you will be ahead of most of the folks in congress.. lot of time and energy on what might happen..
