Ok, not to rehash Spygate, but he was pretty honest about all the Spygate stuff. As he said in the past, he felt the whole situation was overblown. But he went beyond that. He admitted he had guys in the stands stealing signals of the defense and matching it up with the game tape later. He said although he didn't use a video camera, he felt what he did was no different than Spygate. He also said that videotaping signals had no bearing in the Pats' wins over the Steelers and that he felt honored and that it was a sign of respect for his defense if people felt they had to steal the signals of his defense. I wish he was more vocal like this during the Spygate ordeal.

I heard that and thought the same thing, if you asked the other 30 coaches and they gave you an honest answer most would say the same thing.

He also thinks the Pats prevail Monday, maybe next he goes on wfan and predicts the jets to win

I think it really wouldn't have mattered if Cowher had spoken up more three years ago. It quickly became very apparent which angle was going generate more web hits, viewers, readers and listeners. The media found that an unnamed source alleging the Patriots might have also done something else was far more profitable than Cowher's story.

    No Jersey Selected

they buried the jimmy johnson confessions and pretended they never happened. i'll bet if you talked to cowher privately , he'd admit to taping.

Cowher did speak up! He said all this 3 years ago.

Look, Saint Dungy went on a scourge against Belichick, and that hurt more than anything, because on Dungy's staff was a guy named Mudd who was known as the Dean, the go-to-guy, the expert, videotapemaster #1, when it came to stealing signals.

I will not at all be surprised if Kraft and Belichick pen books in the future blasting Goodell. Goodell called Belichick a liar on national TV right before the Super Bowl and right after he interviewed Matt Walsh. He literally called him a liar.

That's pretty unforgivable in my book when you consider that the rule book could easily be interpreted the way BB interpreted it, and that the so-called clarifying memo was violated by the Jets and Dolphins first, and the NFL did nothing about it. They got nothing more than a "That's football" from the NFL's Steve Alic.

Yes, Belichick pushed it after the memo, but given what had occurred in the prior season, Goodell totally overreacted.

Yup. As was already stated the buried Jimmy Johnsons comments, they didn't even mention the article that Banks had in SI earlier in the year, nor did they cite any of the numerous mentions of spying/taping in books, magazines, etc throughout the years. They wanted a story, Goodell wanted to show he was the boss, it was a perfect storm. That **** never happens if Tagliabue was the commissioner.

    #24 Jersey

I might be wrong but I think he was still employed by the Steelers so I doubt he could say something like that without fear of sanctions of his own.

That does not surprise me at all. The only respectable coach that did not come out in the Patriots defense during "Spygate" was Zombie Dungy.

    #12 Jersey

Ditka earlier this week, J. Johnson forever and now Cowher. And people like Florio just absolutely refuse to report it.

    #12 Jersey

almost no head coaches at the time came out and criticized us for spygate. this tells me that most teams were stealing signals in some sort of manner.

The entire thing was a figment of the NFL's imagination. How does it cost us 1.5mil and a no. 1 draft pick when they change the rule. Then 3 years later only cost a 50k fine? Seems to me the 2nd time should be worse, just by the fact the league spent an entire year talking about it.

Once a Jets fan, always a Jets fan. If he thought he could take away the Raiders' pick and still keep his job, he would do it.

I am absolutely positive that during the Video Witch Hunt, that Bill Cowher, Jimmy Johnson, and Mike Shanahan all said they also stole signals, that everyone did it, and it was being overblown. The media simply chose to highlight other people and ignore these coaches.

Cowher said it was no big deal and everyone does similiar things, but this is the first time he actually admitted to having someone in stands stealing signals and then syncing it up with the game film after the fact. I assume since it was his first year and first weeks on the CBS broadcast, he probably didn't want to tarnish his reputation off the bat for going too far. Johnson who was already on the Fox broadcast for years didn't really care and went into detail for his friend.
