This guy deserves all the ridicule he's gonna get thrown his way when he comes home. Losing is no shame, but doing it while setting nightlife world records, bragging about hangover skiing and reaping millions in commercial dollars because of his "style over substance" dude-ishness drains away any sympathy I have for him.

.....but I'm glad he had an "awesome time".

    Looooo-za.

    biggest: peyton

bode's a loser, no question, but i really think he doesn't care. the guy definitely needs more socialization, but, y'know, he was practically raised by wolves.
peyton tops this list because a. he wants it so bad. b. with his stable (i guess) upbringing, he should better be able to put it in perspective, c.i dunno fer sure, but peyton seems to be a whiner, which i find less attractive than the fake "who cares" attitude from miller.

I don't know, Benito. At least Peyton cares.

Bode went to Turin on the taxpayers dime, made lotsa cash beforehand based on his "independent free-wheeling" personality, choked (or jaked it) then said he doesn't care, he had a fun time in the pubs.

It's almost like he stole the money from the idiot sponsors and is laughing his arse off while burning their cash.

    well

This really isn't close: PM's the loser here---he's never won anything. Bode medals in salt lake, and took home the World Cup all around last year. Now i realize to the vast majority of the american public, the olympics are the ultimate skiing prize. however to people that ski, the world cup title is the "superbowl". he was the 1st american in 22 years to win it and the 2nd american in history to win it.

obviously what transpired in tiriino was not what we all hoped would happen. but there were a lot of people who were expected to medal who didn't. bode just happens to be the presses whipping boy for the olympics! Just becuase he didn't medal in tirino doesn't mean he deserves to be lumped in with lifelong losers like PM!

i'm pretty sure olympic athletes don't do anything on the taxpayers dime. in the us, olympic stuff is funded by corporate sponsosrs who want to be "the official fungus ointment of the us olympic team".
so the $$ doesn't come out oof our taxpayer pocket, it comes out of our fungus ointment pocket.
somebody please correct this for me if i'm wrong.
last olympics, one of the corporate sponsors was the effin us postal service. didn't go down too well wwith their union or the congress.

as for all the media exposure, that's the media's stupidity, not his press agent. i know nobody who gave a $h!t about bode miller on january 1, and nobody who will give a ***** about him on frebruary 28. it's his corporate sponsors who'll be left holding the bag.

besides, isn't "almost" stealing the money the american way? remember the pet rock? the macarena? paris hilton? shall i go on?

It's a 501(c)3 organization. The contributions to it are tax-deductible. Hence, the taxpayers of America are partially funding Bode's Gnarly Vacation.

For our further enjoyment, here is Tony Chamberlain's (his friend and former apologist) column in today's Globe:

    http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2006/02/26/an_edgy_turn_for_miller/

In a perfect world, Bode Miller repays the donors to the USOC who underwrote his vacation. It's not about winning or losing - - this guy didn't even try. He laughed at these suckers all the way to the pub.

Any corporation that pays him to endorse in the future is rewarding that. This, however, may actually occur. After all, in 21st century America, we have the E channel paying the Gotti offspring millions to be cultural icons, without giving a percentage to the murdered and robbed victims of the great man.

......and, perhaps, the column that best sums it up:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/394770p-334708c.html

Perhaps the idiot sponsors who paid millions to this clown (and everyone knew he was a clown long before the Olympics) SHOULD lose their shirts on this (like Peter Angelos on Albert Belle, or Jeffrey Lurie on T.O.).

But the people of the USA shouldn't have to have someone of his ilk "represent" them on the world stage. The USOC should police its own better or risk a loss of its income stream.

If an Investment Advisor took clients money and trust and purposefully threw it away, he/she would be, rightfully, led away in handcuffs.

OUCH, that hurts! Always be careful who you are a a-hole to, because you never know.

After reading that article I would have to give the prize to Bode. Peyton may be a loser, but at least he is not an a-hole.

    Bode Rocks

I couldn't give a rat's ***** about a few olympic medals. How come everyone has their panties in a bunch for an event that nobody watches.

Bode has won at the highest levels. PM has NOT. Just because the media marketing machine has pimped him for the OG's, people who don't know anything about skiing now think he is a loser because he may have underperformed at the olympics.

Do your research people. Don't speak about someone you know little about. Read more than one paper or online source. This guy is a hero who grew up in NE.

    My 2-cents.

Boy did this go over YOUR head.

This had very little to do with whether he won or lost. It had everything to do with how he handled himself and his waste of his talent.

I'm not here critiquing the other favored US skier.

    Wake up Denver Dude.

    I am awake

I hear what you are saying. My reaction was to the bad press I keep hearing.

I also don't care about the guys nightlife. It hadn't affected his skiing in the past so why stop now. Everyone loved Tomba and he set the bar for partying during the Olympics.

Speaking of partying, I'm sure there's alot more going on than the press reports. How else can you explain the US womens' hockey team losing to Sweden, a team they beat 26 straight times.

As far as the Nike ads. A man's got to feed his family, right?

Bad press? He MADE his own bad press. And to your earlier remark about I should read more than one online source, my source is Google. I went on there and EVERY major newspaper in the world is ridiculing Miller.

He is a universally scorned idiot - - except by you. If you think only one source is condemning him, then you are even further more uninformed than you have sounded in the past.

Tomba? You're going to put Bode Miller in the same sentence as Tomba? That's like putting Ryan Leaf in the same sentence with Tom Brady.

Tomba could at least hold his liquor.

You have no credibility on this, dude. Go back to the mountain dew commercial.

partially funding by not taxing USOC''s income?

is that your point, that beacause of its 501(c)(3) status USOC doesn't pay taxes on its income, and therefore all dollars USOC spends are in an effect taxpayer-subsidized dollars? well ok then, if that's the way you see it.
i'd like to get some folks to reimburse the taxpayers for hunting trips to harlingen, texas, which lead to somebody getting shot. actually i think bode's italian odyessy was worse. perhaps my congresswoman's recent trip to the galapagos islands (from connecticut) to study health issues there.
bode miller should return the cost of his "vacation" to USOC. heck, for all i know they've already sent him a bill. he can certainly afford to pay it.
i thoroughly agree that any endorsement dollars he receives after this are dollars that reward "his laughing at these suckers all the way to the pub".
But this society has gotten a lot sicker than that. who knows, maybe seagram's will wanna sign him up. or some bar chain in italia. i do know that i was sick of seeing his face before the dang games even began. and inna couple years we''ll be seeing this guy on oprah or the view talking about "his struggle".

Interestingly, the ski school in Maine where he went still loves Bode on a nearly obsessive level. Of course, now they're cashing in on one of their other four Olympians, Seth Wescott.

Ironically the school, Carabassett Valley Academy, kicked Bode out before he made it big.

    Take a chill pill Dude

I may be the only one who has that opinion of Bode. So be it. And yes I realize it is in vogue right now to slam Bode by multiple media sources. And your comparrsion to Ryan is off base. Bode has won at every level except the Olympics. RL failed at the pro level.

Give me a break about the refund garbage. This country wastes alot more money on more ridiculous things than Bode's trip to Italy. Why don't you start with some of those first and work your way to Bode?

Anyway always fun here on the board. I'll take my skis and go hit the slopes now.
