Got to give Big Vince some attaboys for dropping into pass coverage several times in the 4th quarter. Once he started spying the back we stopped getting killed by the dumpoff. Not sure who's responsibility it was prior to that (Guyton?) but they were terrible at it.

The running didn't bother me last night, I figured the big boys were gassed a bit, but for the love of god we couldn't cover Kuhn out of the backfield for 3 quarters. That is the biggest reason they were in the game, bigger then the stupid penalties we kept commiting, bigger then the rushing yards allowed and bigger then Merriweather's brain fart. And Big Vince essentially put an end to it. I won't call it blanket coverage, but it worked.

People question our coaching staff's adjustments, well this was an adjustment alright, unlike any that I can recall. A NT dropping into coverage, I have seen it all.

Go Vince!!!:rocker:

Vince was huge last night, no pun intended. I really want to know how many snaps he played, but it was a lot. I think he's usually in the 60-70% range, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him closer to 90% for this game.

I was watching him when the D was playing and IMO i think he was our MVP last night.

can you imagine how different things would be if he hadn't been re-signed?

*shudder

There should be a bridge or a high school named after the big man for his performance last night. Talk about being a leader for the D. He was immense.

I hope we have him around for many many more years.

the pats beat writers are tweeting right now that BB is giving Vince's performance last night heavy praise

Rapaport: "Bill Belichick says @wilfork75 "had probably one of the best games he's played. And he's had some good ones."'

He deserves every bit of it. He was awesome last night even if I did laugh when I saw him running out to the flat to cover Kuhn....just don't tell him.

Maybe it was Connolly's return that led to BB's epiphany that big boys could run and that Vince would be a beast at covering a back out of the backfield. :rocker:

The big man was everywhere, it seemed. He was impressive on many snaps, pushing aside double-teams to get to the QB or RB, looking like Rex Ryan pushing through a crowd to get to the buffet table.

According to Reiss, Wilfork played 74 of the 80 defensive snaps

He is easily one of my favorite Patriots.

I think Vince was jealous of Haloti Ngata and wanted to show he could drop out with the best of them.

Hopefully we don't have to rely on him to do that as much going forward. :)

Bill Belichick Praises Vince Wilfork's 'Outstanding' Effort in Patriots' Slim Victory Over Packers - NESN.com - Jeff Howe

A day after the Patriots' tense victory against the Packers, New England head coach Bill Belichick remained realistic that his team didn’t play all that great on its home turf.

Through the reflection, though, Belichick found some real praise for defensive anchor Vince Wilfork, who played almost every snap and shouldered a ton of responsibility in the Patriots' 31-27 win. Wilfork had six solo tackles -- a reasonably monstrous total for a defensive lineman in New England's 3-4 scheme -- and recovered quarterback Matt Flynn's fumble as time expired.

Wilfork moved across the defensive line and had to fight through the Packers' schemes that were geared specifically in his direction. Plus, the Patriots were without injured defensive linemen Mike Wright, Myron Pryor and Ron Brace, as well as run-stuffing linebacker Brandon Spikes, and they briefly lost defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick and linebacker Gary Guyton. Plus, defensive lineman Gerard Warren played despite missing some practice time with a minor knee injury.

Simply put, Wilfork had to be at his best to compensate for a very short-handed front-seven, and Belichick acknowledged as much.

Belichick gushes over Wilfork's play - CSNNE.com - Tom E. Curran

Some football minds can't manage a sentence without dropping a superfluous superlative (looking at youse guys, Troy Aikman, Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden).

Bill Belichick flings 'em around like manhole covers.

But Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald hit a vein when he asked Belichick Monday about the performance of Vince Wilfork Sunday night.

"I thought Vince did a terrific job for us last night," Belichick said in response to a question about the level of fitness Wilfork showed on a night when the defense was on the field twice as much as the Patriots offense. "You’re right, he was out there for a lot of plays – 74 plays or whatever it was – I forget the exact number, but it was a lot. I thought he played hard. He really had an outstanding game. They had a lot of attention directed at him, which is understandable, but he had a bunch of double teams and slides on the protection coming his way and those types of things."

Bravo! Reiss of ESPN admitted he made a mistake for marking him "down".

Guess that should kill all the talk about him being a two-down player or how he just stands there and eats blocks. He was awesome on Monday, though it's clear the lack of DL depth is a factor moving forward. Hopefully Brace and Wright and Pryor can come back soon.

A DL spying? How could that be? He's too big to do it. No DL would ever be asked to do that. That's just not conventional football [/end sarcasm]

If anyone deserves a game off in week 17, it would be him.
