2003-Ty Warren- Solid Borderline Pro Bowl DE

Eugene Wilson- awesome first 2 years. Playmaker who was also a big hitter for his size. Became mediocre after that.

Bethel Johnson- say what you will, made some huge plays in 2003-Tenn/Indy/ Tenn Playoffs.

Asante Samual- became the biggest ballhawk in the NFL.

    Dan Koppen- very good center
    For 8 years

Tully Banta Cain- off and on but has a 10 sack season to his name.

    Or 2010

Cant really judge but 2010 class has made a bigger impact all around.

Also 2010 shows when the Pats dont reach too much ( ahem taylor price) they do very well in the draft.

2007 and 2008 drafts, just going by everyones rankings... Most of their picks went 2 rounds or more thennwhere peoplenhad them
Ranked. This tells me as long as the pats dontnouthink themselves they are golden.

only time can answer that question. It would do a disservice to the 03 class to try to answer that right now.

Can't say for sure but I think the 2010 class will be the better draft class. McCourty, Gronk, Hernandez, Spikes, Deadrick, Cunningham... All productive players.

This assumes "Sexy Rexy" does not recruit Zoltan's big foot to the Jets. :bricks:

Is this a serious question? With the disclaimer that sometimes things are not what they seem, let's be honest here. This draft class is one of the best in recent memory for any team in the NFL. We are looking at an insane collection of talent and Patriots-type players. Supposing we had just drafted Spikes and Gronkowski- that in itself would have made many people happy. But now throw in a cornerback who is already playing as well as any in the league, a promising OLB, a punter who is already playing at a high level, a solid depth player on the DL, and, oh, another tight end who has great hands, is big, and has WR speed. Draw you own conclusions here.

If anyone objects to this, just look at the team's record at 12-2. Remember that this was supposed to be an 8-10 win team and second place in the division, and that was before the losses of Bodden, Warren, and Faulk (not to mention trading the supposed irreplaceable piece of the offense, Moss.) With the vast improvement throughout the season, where do you think this is coming from? If these rookies continue on this progression, we could be wondering not whether this was the best draft class of the Pats decade, but the best of any NFL team in the last decade.

If we're going by this year only, It's 2010 - and it's not even close.

McCourty - very promising 1st year after being thrown into the starting lineup.
    Gronkowski - beast!
Cunningham - decent player, okay at setting the edge but needs to work on his rush moves.
Spikes - might have been picked early but I'm glad they got him. He'll be the Ted Johnson of this defense.
    Price - incomplete
Hernandez - an absolute beast! If it weren't for Mike Williams, he'd be the steal of the draft. I've never seen a TE that treats every catch likes it's the last play of the game. Dude wants to score on every play.
Mesko - has some shanks every now and then, but I feel the Pats have finally solved their punter issues.
Brandon Deaderick - Gets a lot of playing time.

After the last 5 years, I felt the window was about to shut.

But because of this awesome draft class, the emergence of the '09 class and Jerod Mayo have re-opened that window.

Not to mention they have 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds of next year's draft.

If they can duplicate the 2010 draft in 2011......

Just to highlight how awesome Mesko is.....

    1. He bailed Ingram for the first 3rd of the season.

    2. We'd have lost that Baltimore game if not for him.

    3. He's working with a new long snapper and kicker mid-season.

    4. He's playing in cold weather outdoors.

Mesko has been outstanding. He can still improve on downing kicks inside the 20 but nonetheless he has been excellent.

    Mesko

That's 3 defensive starters. 2 offensive starters. 5 'core' Players.
1 special teamer that should be on our team for a very long time. and 1 depth DLineman that might even be able to start one day.

2010 is easily better than 2003. 2009 also may turn out to be better depending on Butler and Tate/Edelman. Chung, Vollmer, Brace, and Pryor are already valuable contributors.

2003 was a good draft but not overwhelming. 2 A+ picks in Warren and Samuel. Then 2 C-ish picks with Eugene Wilson and Bethel Johnson(maybe lower than a C), who made good contributions the first couple years and didn't pan out in the long run. Unless I'm forgetting something the rest of the picks didn't give much.

I know it's early days but the signs suggest it's going to be very hard to find a draft class better than this Patriots unit.

2010 is a lot better, even 2009 is better. However, 2000 trumps them all.

Lets give it up to Nick Caserio Director of Player Personnel, just look at his Drafts already wiithout question Caserio is already > Scott Pioli. When you can find guys on Day 2 who can come in and Start that's just sick.

Your looking at body of work from the 2003 draft versus the rookie year. I would have to believe this class has already performed better then the first year of those players in 2003. Don Banks did a draft-redo and had three Pats as #1 picks, don't think that would have happened in 03. It usually takes longer for the non-skilled players to produce, so I think this draft class will become the benchmark.

    McCourty
    Hernandez
    Gronkowski

If they re-did the draft, all 3 of them would be 1st round picks.

McCourty would of gone higher in the 1st.

This year has been spectacular, but we need to wait and see if theyre still doing this in 3 years. 03 for now.

Like Ahmed said, the greatest draft year for the Patriots franchise was 2000, period. Just one player, just one round, but such an enormous influence. BB and Kraft are nothing without this one player.
