Currently Ethanol from corn is being touted as a way to reduce our consumption of petrochemicals. Thisis a really bad idea, it will drive up the price of food (ever see how much corn syrup is being used in foods we buy? Higher demand= Higher Prices.

We could use every bit of corn grown in our country and still not produce enough fuel to supply our needs. Many farmers are stopping planting other crops and planting corn (government subsidies & government mandates), soybeans & cotton prices will be higher.

Worse is how inefficient corn is as a fuel source.

Gallons of Oil per Acre per Year

    Corn 18
    Soybeans 48
    Safflower 83
    Sunflower 102
    Rapeseed 127
    Oil Palm 635
    Micro Algae 5000-15000

Here are some articles about the opportunity.

The nice thing is that diesels are 30% more efficent in terms of MPG than gasoline engines.
