I woud like to see BJGE activated in the next game. He was the most productive back in the preseason. He always seems to pick up positive yardage and he hits the hole with authority. I think he could be really effective as a short yardage back. The Patriots have not been successful running the ball in short yardage situations so far this year so I would like to see what Lawfirm could do.

    Re: Bjge

He WAS activated for the Jets game. He saw action on STs (even drawing a penalty, I think), but not in the backfield. The problem with the running game was in the commitment, not the personnel, IMO.

    Re: Bjge

Agreed. Happy to see him make the team (he earned it). Hope he can pull his weight on teams, burt we really need to exploit the veteran running backs we have.

Taylor and Morris aren't getting younger and Maroney flat out needs to play. He and Maroney are a great style match for the future, but it's up to him to force it. He's still a marginal NFLer.

    Re: Bjge

For the short yardage, do you think Patriots need a thumping fullback? In the past they used Russ H.. This season they tried Sammy Morris on few plays with very little success.

I like BJGE but Maroney and Taylor are running the ball very well right now.

    Re: Bjge

Morris looked slow. Whether it's the time off, a lack of full recovery or the assault of father time, I do not know.

However, this team has completely eliminated the fullback from the package. I think that says a lot about how this team views the running game.

    Re: Bjge

BJGE might manage to pass Morris on the depth chart, who just look flat-out bad. The only way that he's getting meaningful playing time in the backfield, though, is through injury. Maroney and Taylor both look very good running the ball when we actually decide to run.

    Re: Bjge

I am high on BJGE as much as anyone else is and contributed to the flaming war that there was over whether BJGE would make final roster.. however..

I believe will only see BJGE if there is a major injury, or if BB has given up on someone for good. The thing to remember is BJGE is in the 2nd of a 4 year contract, so there is plenty of time for him.

Taylor and Morris are signed for one more year.. If we go with BJGE now, over them, we are essentially telling them we're quitting on them- so for BB it's a lot more than just "oh let's try this or that" he has a roster to manage as well.

We have Taylor and Morris for one more year

At the very least, I'd like to see him take carries away from Morris.

He was active last game. He had a critical penalty on special teams.

    Re: Bjge

NE has rarely used a FB even in heavy running years. Evans hardly ever saw the field last year and they still went over 2,000 yards excluding Cassel's scrambles.

The lack of a FB has little to do with committment to the run and a lot to do with how the team prefers to run. Why keep a guy on the roster who might see 2-3 snaps a game that can be easily replaced with a backup OG or TE?

    Re: Bjge

I agree with the committment part - but Taylor was FAR MORE EFFECTIVE THAN MACARONEY! Taylor's avg was 5.something. Macaroney? 2? Maybe? I say make Macaroney a healthy inactive and knock some scared into him. At this point I will try anything...maybe draw the dude a map with the caption: go straight you dumbazz.

    Re: Bjge

taylor has average 4.2 yards per carry on a total of 17 carries
Maroney is at 3.4 on 16 carries

and the Patriots have only run the ball 43 times in 2 games

faulk has 6 brady and morris 2 carries

that is less than a yard per carry that is not "far more effective" it's your right to hate Maroney all you want but at least know you are saying

    Re: Bjge

    8 for 46 for taylor 5.8 YPC
    6 for 23 for Maroney 3.8 YPC

that is still not the 2 you claimed in fact the two jet runners were at 4.1 and 3.9.
and am going to bet that almost every team in the league out side of a couole would take a runner that can get almsot 4 yard a carry

    Re: Bjge

Who brought up the Jets runners? I'm talking about the Patrits rb's. Taylor averaged two more yards per carry than Macaroney. I think I'll go with the old guy.

And yes I do dislike Macaroney. My dislike is quickly reaching Elllis "Hobbitt" Hobbs proportions.

    Re: Bjge

well would you have taken "the old guy" in the first game when he only averaged 2.8 per carry.

you RB should get you between 3-5 yards per carry so you can have a short yards on 3rd down

so what exactly do expect out of Maroney?
