As is typical we have the "sky is falling" posts due to the sluggish, somewhat anemic first game the Patriots put out there yesterday. Get down off the Tobin Bridge people. But, for Belichick, this is *great*. Sure the team won by the skin of their teeth (due to the the second half adjustments and better play) but this is just the object lesson hoped to be able to wield to make his team snap to. If they'd won a blow out the way some of us were predicting they'd have assumed that all these divisional games were within their grasp rather than Belichick's philosphy that *every* team is dangerous and *never* look beyond anyone. Belichick will use this "victory" to urge his team to harder preparation, more focus and I'm fairly sure we'll see a much improved product on the field for their second game. Remember, no team doesn't have holes it's how you work around/fill them that sets you apart from the rest of the teams in the NFL.:D

The Patriots first 4 games are usually a little sluggish compared to the second half of the season. Just like the first few drives of the game being a feeling out process for the whole game, the first few games are a feeling out process for the rest of the season.

When i watched In Their Own Words with Bill Belichick he was heard saying to the team that "the games from Thanksgiving on are the must win games. Forget every other game before that. These are the games we must win."

Last 6 games are what define a Super Bowl team basically.

We're climbing a mountain baby, and I'd rather not sprint up the first miles and have nothing left for the summit! We won and many good lessons were learned.

You pegged it. We don't want to start off world beaters, we want to win and find out what needs to be improved. If we had blown them out we would have taken next week off and lost to the Jets. There won't be any lay down against the Jets now.

This game was a Tale of Two Halves. The first half was a disaster for our passing offense and our 3rd down defense wasn't much better, but there was a distinct change after half-time. Brady and the O-line picked it up and the defense let the dogs out. First half grade: F Second half grade: A-.

So we got off to a bad start but finished strong. That's much preferred than the other way around and hopefully the second half performance continues into next week.
