Belichick's History/Record When Replacing Well Known Players

People have thrown a lot of criticism at BB for the last few drafts, but the bottom line is we don't have a bunch of busts on our roster because our coach can't swallow his pride. It seems as through the Patriots are as good as any team at evaluating a player immediately during his first offseason and figuring out if the draft pick was good. Players that come to mind are Chad Jackson and Kevin O'Connell. People were amazed that CJ was benched during his rookie season and then cut the next season, but there is no team in the NFL that wants him now. A lesser coach would have kept him on the team for 15 catches a season when there are better options available.
Umm.. just an FYI.

Jackson wasn't benched during his rookie year. He was working his way into the receiver rotation by also working on special teams. And it was that work on special teams during the AFCCG against the Colts that Jackson tore his ACL in later January. He had surgery and missed his sophmore season. It wasn't until his 3rd season, after he he came back from surgery, that Jackson was on the roster after the initial cutdowns to 53, but was cut the next day. Rumor had it that he was unable to earn Brady's trust.

In nearly every way imaginable this season is like 2003.

Missed playoffs prior year? Check
Some ugly defense leading to makeover of the secondary? Check
Some key FA signings? Check
A draft class chock full of contributors and likely future starters? Check
Start against Buffalo? Check
Dismiss a popular player with strong ties to media members in the week before the first game? Check

Winning the superbowl? Che.. ;) Alright, I think they will.

Exactly my thoughts. If only we played at Buffalo on Monday, I would have been more enouraged but still...what's life without change? :)

Let's buckle our belts and look forward to enjoying a great 2009 season!

GO PATS!!!!

No-one ever mentions Burgess but he's a piece of it too. Between Warren, Wilfork, Burgess, Green Wright, Pryor and Brace we have a ton of guys for different roles.

Yup. Seymour wasn't even playing on a lot of 3rd downs.

Yep. And if Felger is accurate and Wilfork was offered up before Sey that means he must be VERY confident in Brace and Pryor on the inside.

In 03 BB picked up a big fatty in Ted Washington.

09's big fatty- Ron Brace.

People would be amazed, because he wasn't benched. He was hurt at the beginning of the season, played in 12 games and then blew out his knee.

Felger is stirring the pot by intentionally misinterpreting a quote. The quote says Wilfork was "talked about".

My guess, it went something like this:

Davis: "Can we have wilfork"
BB: "no"
Davis: "Can we have Seymour"
BB: "for how much?"

If the patriots were "shopping" Wilfork, he'd be gone. He's an elite player on a cost controlled contract.
