Let's face it, for a franchise that has less arrest, drug problems and dancing clowns than most, we get a lot of crap.

And crap is a....distraction. With the great undefeated run, we did not need more pressure, but we sure had it.

Did it affect our play, freshness, fatigue in the SB? I think it's seriously debatable.

BB is the greatest coach but he makes no effort to do the public relations part of his job.

It's entertainment. Lots of reporters need their notebooks filled. If you don't give them something and look at them like they are moron's, they'll make something up and it won't be good.

BB's a smart guy. His attitude helped torpedo him in Cleveland and it's doing the same here. Whatever his problem is, he needs to get over it.

This is entertainment. Reporters, Morons though they may be, have a job to do.

I hate to be blunt, but he's hurting the team.

There's only a "public relations part of the job" because the media (and to a lesser extent the fans) "demand" one. Last I checked, talking to the media rarely, in and of itself, helps Belichick do his real job--coach the Patriots and win games.

Frankly, I don't give a rat's *** what Belichick does with respect to the media so long as he helps the Patriots win games.

I like Belichick just the way he is ...

Say what you want about Bill but he is no rumpswab. Except for family, friends and the Patriots he answers to nobody and that is just perfect for me because it leaves him free to do what he does best ... coach my team.

He can't change who he is. IMO, it's wrong to ask him to change who he is. But why didn't he scream at the O-line? that's a different story. Why didn't he try to run 40 seconds off the clock? That's a different story too. ;)

Re: Belichick needs to go to charm school

Belichick respects certain media members. Listen to his press conferences and it is by no means a secret who those people are. He enjoys his time with Mike Lynch, Mike Reiss, Chirs Berman, Glen Ordway, and, at one time, Peter King.

His job is to coach the New England Patriots. His job is not to be the face of the franchise. His job is to win football games, not answer the same dumb questions over and over again.

Why should Belichick go out ofhis way to help the reporters "fill their notebooks?" They ask questions, he gives answers. If they want more, they have to ask the right questions. They have a job to do. Belichick has a job to do. He does not need to do their job for them, there is no time for that. He has to prepare 53 men for a game on Sunday. Nothing more.

I agree with RayClay. BB has brought this upon the Pats by his antiestablishment attitude. He's the only one who can remove this blight.

Re: Belichick needs to go to charm school

After witnessing the BB era so far all i have to say in response to the OP is that I have nothing but total RESPECT for Bill Belichick.

Over the same time frame, my respect for the media could not possibly be any less. I am totally astounded by what I have witnessed by the writers, reporters and talking heads formerly known as professionals and now much better referred to as mediots (sorry Mike Reiss and Michael Holley, you two are among a tiny minority of how your profession should carry themselves).

What I have seen lately from these mean spirited, cruel, nasty, self absorbed........turds, has been enough to sour me on every single "sports news" outlet available.

Were this another time we could put them all away with a simple decree "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS".

Any NFL head coach is a public face for a team and media and public relations is a very real part of the job in the age of technology that we live in.

The media, the fans and the owners/commissioner. Who's left? He certainly turns on the charm to the players.

I know I've gone to work and had to listen to suggestions of how todo my job from people who don't know what they're talking about.

Do a glare at them, with a look like i think they're an idiot?

Do I mumble something and drift off, because i know I know my job and there opinion doesn't mean crap?

No, I say "that's an interesting point of view, this is my thinking on that."

Is it because i respect them personally? No.

It's because i respect they have a job to do and also appreciate they can make my life miserable and also my ability to do my job.

    So I "handle" them.

Am I smarter than BB? I seriously doubt it.

Am I acting smarter here? I think so.

BB charms the right people. The ownership, his assistant coaches and his players.

I doubt his contract includes being a "media personality".

Why do the fans love him? He's made this franchise a winner. That's his job and he's damn good at it.

I like his dry sense of humor myself. I wish he'd use it more.

I have to admit, even as a fan,I'll click on his press conferences and decide to do statistics homework instead, because it's more interesting.

"day to day", "I'm not a doctor" "we're competitive" zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I can't imagine trying to make an interesting story out of what he says. I think he's a great guy, not a phony, but let's face it sanctimonious Aholes like Dungy or pugnacious pr**ks like Parcells at least give you a story angle.

Some of BB's press conferences are like trying to write a food review when the meal is dry toast.

They will find something to write.

The National Football League isn't concerned with media? I bet that's news to them.

Why do all those newspaper have sports pages, probably more well read than news.

There aren't sports channels on TV? There isn't a netwrork entirely devoted to the NFL that requires media input constantly?

What planet r u from, my friend?

His contract doesn't include being a media personality, eh? Would it surprise you to know Kraft talked to him about his handling of people/media as more of a concern than his coaching when he was hired?

    That's what I understand.

Are you saying he trots out to answer questions after every game because he enjoys it?

I think that's pretty much his obligation of being a media personality.

He coaches a football team. He doesn't work for the E channel or TMZ.

He get's paid to COACH FOOTBALL.

The NFL is concerned with media. BB is concerned with winning football games.

Your right though, we need a media darling to head this football team. Maybe we should hire Justin Timberlake or Oprah as our next HC.

Who cares about winning as long as you look good and people "like you".

Actually you are totally wrong. The head coach's job concerning the media is the mandated post game interviews ... nothing more than that is required. Public relations is for the public relations department ... like all the charity and social work the players do ... Belichick DOES A TON OF THAT ALSO ... WITHOUT THE MEDIAS KNOWLEDGE. You want nice then go be a Colts fan ... I hear their coach is a saint.

I'm saying it's the one part of his job he hates and he's not good at.

I'll take that and a team that competes for a title every year over a losing team with a coach the media likes anyday.

Apparently you guys expect an inspirational JFK-type speech every time he steps to the podium.

I like wins. You like pulpit speeches. I guess that's where we differ.

    You agree with me then.

Considering we're three years from a super Bowl and have to deal with spygate, and other bull**** constantly, I'd say the lack of effectiveness at this part of his job has become a distraction.

He didn't lose his job at Cleveland because he was a bad coach, Modell knew he was a good coach. His failure was handling player and media issues.

He's improved a lot in dealing with players, you'd think he would address a real simple problem that has become a tremendous distraction.

If it wasn't a distraction, I wouldn't bring it up. It is.

It's a direct result of his success. It breeds jealousy and contempt.

I like how you characterize it as a "simple problem".

The Boston and national media are a "simple problem". OK. Gotcha.

My advice to BB would be this:

Don't change your stripes and keep this team a winner. F**k these media clowns.
