I always felt BB was the kind of guy, as long as Kraft let him do his thing and he just watched the games from his owners box, that would want to stay with the same team for a long time. I didn't think the NY Giants rumors has any merit at all.

Sounds good but given that the article says the interview was "wide ranging", couldn't it have been a little longer ? I feel like it ended after chapter one.

For BB that was a wide ranging interview. :D

I think one thing that can't be overlooked is the fact that Bill Belichick really appreciates the fact that The Krafts gave Bill Belichick a "Second Chance" in The NFL to be a Head Coach. It did not end well in either Cleveland or New York for Bill but the Krafts saw through that and knew what kind of man they were dealing with in Bill Belichick. The results have proven them right .

I believe Belichick will remain the coach of the Pats until he physically or mentally cannot do it anymore. He will not leave looking for greener pastures or any such thing. He idolizes the greatest coaching legends of history: Don Shula, the coach of his favorite team as a boy, the Baltimore Colts, and Paul Brown. They represent stability and longevity, and BB sees himself as the modern torchbearer of their old school values. The much-debated Flutie dropkick, the Vinnie TD streak etc are indications of his pride in the past, putting a spotlight on players who have persevered in the game for unusual stretches of time. It reveals the conservative bent of his heart, and suggests he will tend in the opposite direction from the peripatetic Parcells, carpet bagger extraordinaire. With that in mind, I believe BB will be here as long as Brady is a top-notch QB.

more importantly it shows who in the media has access to the inner workings of the pats and should be trusted more for information. this 'interview' is more like a glorified 'statement' released by BB just to answer those whispers about BB's future. The pats and BB have a habit of doing this just giving it back to the media when rumours are spread around. Iam sure this interview is a response to what schefter was blabbering about BB maybe having an optional clause after 1 yr.
In the BB world nothing is unplanned i believe and this interview is also perfectly timed

Agreed 100% and I am so happy to have him confirm what most of us believe.

Nice to see Mike Reiss get the interview he so deserves.

Another example that meant a great deal of him was his own father who was with Navy for 30+ years.

Great statement there. Lots of positives and it sure seems like he will be the coach of the pats for a good deal longer. phew.

Good post, should be required reading for all of those who continue to believe the Patriots had a bad season... or the front office is incompetent. Reiss has risen to the top in covering the Pats and deserves this well written piece.

My favorite quote: "I'm not saying we'll be the front-runner of the next decade, ..." Ecstatic to hear BB refer to 2011-2020 as "we"!
