BB: Jackson was a consideration in the first round...we were able to move up in the 2nd to get him...we've spent a lot of time with him...he's got good skills...comes from good passing system with Meyer...Thomas was a productive kid in a n'tl championship team...well thought of...in both receiver and blocker, kicking game...we're primarily a 2-TE team...so that's where we're at...
Press: Question about Jackson quiz on game film
BB: He understood the concepts...we do that with a lot of players...having them come back...how they learned basic info like that
Press: How did the move up come...
BB: Draft charts...we talked to some teams in that range...get ahead of teams like Denver with similar need...
Press: Stat differentional in different years for Jackson
BB: Florida runs spread...he played slot...YPC lower naturally...good catching ball in traffic and taking hits...did some reverses, shuffles, options...that was his role...the year before w/ more conventional, more downfield stuff...
Press: Maroney best player...over Jackson?
BB: He was a better pick...
Press: You have to be pleased with Jackson/Maroney
BB: Sure, Scott handled that well, last second, before time expired...we were able to get 3 players we feel good about...
Press: Was the intention to come out with offense?
BB: Intention was to come out with 3 good football players...sometimes need, give up value to balance out...
Press: You guys had a strong look with Jackson..hard to project with Meyer's offense?
BB: No, it's easier than others...not as many play actions, etc...
Press: Was he as good as Branch in terms of understanding concepts...
BB: Branch came out high..pretty unusual to find players at that level
BB: 2 picks are compensatory tomorrow...I don't know what we'll do...tonight we'll restack board...re-evaluate...usually w/multiple picks there's a lot of interest league-wide...we'll just do our homework...
Press: Is it quite likely...top player on board
BB: That's common in the fourth round, but there's a feeding frenzy for top player on everyone's board...easier in 5th round...teams have already filled some needs, knocks some teams out...a lot of these players are more role-palyers now...
Press: Maroney at 5'11'/6'1, 220 +/- what's the real thing?
BB: Take a look at it yourself, Mikey! Maybe it was the dreadlocks!
[laughter]
BB: See you tomorrow...
