That is a direct quote from BB from last nights Real Post game show. Pete Shepard asked BB about the absence of Maroney in the 1st half. BB said it was strictly based on the game plan, he loves Maroney, has no problem with him, calls him a tough kid and would like to have a lot more LM's on the team.
Never heard BB outwardly praise a player in such a strong manner.

Heard that too, it certainly was unqualified affirmation of LM. Went over it in my own mind, searching for sarcasm, but found nothing. Can't help but think there was something going on there, but it may have been just a case sticking with that Vikings game plan.

Using Maroney a little more in the 1st half may have helped our passing game
    open up a little.IMHO

There is nothing wrong with Lawrence. The only question is how to incorporate a RB when your QB is doing so well; every run takes the ball out of Tom's hands. Which we need to do at times but it's got to be difficult to run 22 times right now.

we have a great passing game which works, so why go away from it ? run if the coverage dictates it. i see a similar plan against the ravens which are tough on the run.

A lot of Welker's yards are like screens, which means in some ways he is functioning as a RB split out.

knowing BB and the head games, probably means he's given up on the guy! doesn't want other teams to realize our weakness running the ball.

I hate to bring it so football obvious but does anyone think the problem might be in our OL run blocking? The Patriots have become a passing team and most of the reps in practice are probably pass blocking reps.

If the OL is not getting the proper reps in practice run blocking, then they will look like they are right now. I do expect that they will start getting more reps run blocking as we enter the cold weather part of the schedule.

Yeah, darn that "scoring every offensive possession" in the first half thing. And the 31 offensive points we scored (I'm counting the 7 the refs took away) - that sucked too. Can't win with 31.

i agree. our run blocking hasnt been stellar. maroney still gets blown up in the backfield too often. i noted one play last night where both neal and light missed their blocks.

i will say it doesnt help that whenever Maroney is in the game, you can pretty much count on it being a running play. on the play in the question, and on many maroney in the game plays, the Eagles were run blitzing.

is there no way to use maroney for some pass plays too???? apparently not, from the looks of it, when he dropped that screen pass...

Maroney is what he is. If he was anyhthing more than an average running back, than I'm sure BB would have had him in the gameplan. BB isn't going to leave a great running back out of the gameplan. The problem is Maroney is good, not great. What a waste of a 1st rd pick.

Is it possible you need to reevaluate your position, considering that BB just said he loves Maroney and wants many more players like him? You remember BB, the coach who has won 3 Sbs, is on a 14 game win streak and whose personnel acumen is considered the best in the NFL?

Puhleaze. Unlike you, I don't believe one word BB says when he talks to the media. Not one word. For all we know, he could be pumping up Maroney so he can have some decent trade value in the offseason.

they replayed it in WEEI.said BB called in at 1am to WBCN and listening to BB he seemed quite happy which is odd. i think it works perfect for him, win the game but get to beat down the team

I made this same point in another thread. I think this is the reason Maroney gets blown up so often on his plays - defenses are keying the run whenver he's in the game. He definitely needs to work on his receiving skills to keep the D honest...

On the topic of the Pats running game. I wonder how many running plays the Pats have in their playbook? I ask this because, either last week or the week prior, it was reported during the Colts game that the Colts have only 4 basic running plays that they call.

I thought this was very odd but what do I know?

It's too bad Morris is hurt. I see him as in between Maroney and Faulk. By swiching those three around it keeps the D on their toes. With Maroney, you don't have to respect the screen all that much. Look at what happened last night. He just drops them on the turf.

    Disable Jersey

If you noticed, the Patriots used this against the Eagles on the play action, and it worked to perfection, right up to the point where the receiver dropped the ball.
