    I see possibilities in ...

Gerard Warren (although we produced no DL)
Kevin Faulk (retirement like the Bruschi situation)
Sammy Morris (Definite goner,we won't have more than 4 backs on the active roster)
    Fred Taylor (Definite goner)
Jonathan Wilhite (Definate goner, they will keep Butler)
Alge Crumpler (if Lee Smith is good enough to stay off the PS)
Matt Light (if Solder shows something special)
Mankins will depart if the new CBA eliminates the Franchise tag
Kaczur (if he does not get paid to his liking)

    Anyone else?

Matt Light will come back if he takes a discount. Can't have enough depth at OT
Whilite might be higher rated then Butler at this point
Kaczur is signed through 2012 and is very much needed at guard. Injury or not
    Everything else looks good

I thought Wilhite's play in the slot was much improved from the previous season when he was playing a lot more on the outside which doesn't suit him. I think he'll compete for a spot and maybe you see him traded to a fried of Bill for a low pick if everybody else is kicking ass.

Since we did not adress Gaurd I hope we play ball with Mankins. I think Lage will be here and maybe faulk for one more year. I would prefer to see whilite gone and could care less about butler.

I would guess that Cannon would be a guard. If he can shed a few lbs, he should be an animal.

I don't see Crumpler going this year. He has one more year on his contract, is an excellent leader by all accounts, and can serve as a mentor for the 3 other TE's this year. And he's still pretty decent unless you count on him to make a clutch catch in the playoffs.... sorry sidetracked...

Assuming Faulk retires which i could see as a very real possibility, we carry 4 RB (BJGE, Woodhead, 2 rookies) and 4 TE's... we have had 5 RB's the last few years, but with younger backs there should be less of a threat of injury, allowing you to go with 4.

Keeping Light would be nice... depends on how much he wants. Mankins is pretty important. We can survive without him or thrive with him. Hoping something can be worked out, but I'm not going to count on it.

Let's not forget about free agency and trades for added pressure to... this is just phase one for the draft.... that being said you can't be feeling too secure as a Patriots RB these days.

BB sent a shot across the bow of Matt Light's contract demands (very valuable still, but he can't think he can demand top tier money) - though BB could also just be preparing for a Kaczur holdout too.

As for the rest of them, let those that are signed fight it out in camp and may the best man win.

Re: Based on the draft, which Pats vets are going to be cut, traded, released, not re-sig

Sorry folks but Matt Light is gone. Some team will pay him a ton for a three year contract. Writing was on the wall as soon as Solders name was written down.

Only possible scenario is if Pats give him an insane one year offer, but it would have to be crazy money for Light to take that risk at his age.

Shame as if there was no lockout I'm sure Pats would have gotten a deal done but BB is a smart businessman and wasn't gonna risk not coming out of early rounds without a tackle and thus up Lights leverage.

As far as Crump, I think he stays for sure. No way a fifth round rookie bumps him, unless his shoulder surgery was more serious than has been reported.

FWIW, Light has said he wants to stay in NE, and if he's that good, why do so many people here think of him as a turnstile?

if again there is no CAP floor this year there are 3 guys i could see geting cut... Leigh Bodden Nick Kaczur and Tully Banta-Cain, that would save Kraft over 10 million this year

i dont think im ready to hand the starting LT position over to nate solder after what will be a shortened training camp.

i think matt light will be back for a couple of years at reasonable money, he can move inside or they can trade him after that.

Light is,has been, and will always be a solid LT against your average pass rushers off the edge, where most of his career struggles have been is against Elite pass rushers and pass rushers with patented moves that have confused Light repeatedly over the years.

Give Matt an average edge rush and he can handle it fine, give him a top flight pass rush specialist off the edge and he is that guys b!tch

Light will be missed for being a smart LT but not for protection against the league's best because more often than not,he has struggled.

    What about Mr. Pro-bowl Merriweather?

I still have nightmares about him tackling our own players ...

I think the Pats will make every effort to keep Mankins, either by the Tag or by resigning him. Interior OL is the weakness of the offense at this point, and it's a catastrophe without Mankins. Solder is not your Day 1 LT either; he'll need time. I'm sure Light comes back for at least another year.

Probably one of Arrington or Wilhite won't make it, though CB is an injury-prone position and you can never have enough bodies on the roster there. But with McCourty, Bodden, and now Dowling at the top, that position suddenly has a lot of competitors.

Agree on Morris, Taylor, and probably Faulk. I think Crumpler comes back.

Re: Based on the draft, which Pats vets are going to be cut, traded, released, not re-sig

Why would Solder not be ready on Day 1? He's completely healthy. Every other first round OT normally steps in immediately and starts, why can't Solder? By all accounts, after hearing Solder and BB ("Solder is our LT"), I think both feel that Solder can and will step right in.

As far as Mankins goes, man I am just tired of his act, how much more can we listen to from him, he's a damn OG, not a RB, WR, QB or blue chip DE or OLB, he's a damn OG. See you later Logan, we'll find a replacement believe me, you're not worth the damn aggravation or the poorly played PO games you've given us recently.

I love Light. Would much rather have him starting the next two years, certainly this year, than Solder. But at this point its a money thing. Some contender with cap room will at him top 3 LT money and he ain't getting that in Foxboro after they spent a 1 on solder.

He didn't say 'Solder is our LT' :) He said he'd be working at LT, when asked if there was a possiblity he'd play RT like Vollmer.

I fully expect Solder to be the team's LT at some point, I just don't think it's this coming year. But that's just my opinion - you could certainly be right about the situation. I guess we'll see how it pans out.
