Unprecedented: White House Tries to Ban Fox from Press Pool

Interestingly, this behavior completely contradicts an opinion rendered Tuesday by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs when questioned by ABC's Jake Tapper

Dan Riehl: "For the first time in my life I'm actually uncomfortable knowing that this guy has control of our military and Federal police forces. If he thinks he can simply shut down a member of the press on a whim, how long before he goes full Chavez?"

To their credit, the other networks objected. They told the White House that if Fox were banned, none of the other networks would participate. The White House relented, but in an apparent act of petulant retaliation, it restricted each network to a two-minute interview instead of the standard five.

You have real problems when you are unwilling to take on the viewpoints of your rivals.

It's unfortunate that they were unsuccessful.

Why should something that's not news get a seat with other news organizations?

I don't think they have issues with dissent. They have issues with a political propaganda outfit masquerading as a legitimate news organization.

You guys don't seem to understand that the news outlets that share your viewpoints are viewed in the same light as those form the other side.

It's just that simple. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Those other news outlets no longer hold any more credibility.

Tip: news outlets shouldn't have viewpoints.

    Certainly not.

Really? That's not how I define truth. You can't just make **** up and expect me to believe it.

There are a lot of failings with major media outlets, but to say that the ones that are not Fox News are less credible than Fox News is through the looking glass.

Remember, Fox News went to court in Florida to defend its right to broadcast things that are not factually true. It is not news.

We are past the point of unbiased media in this country. Well past it. Also, back on topic. Why fear differing views? If I believe whole heartedly in what I am doing, I welcome challengers. Welcoming differing opinions could be a powerful tool for this administation, but they stiffen up at the slightest bit of criticism. It's a sign of a lack of confidence.

I'm glad the other news organizations objected and they obviously disagree with your contention here. You can't simply make declarations to suit your bias. It was attempted censorship plain and simple. It’s a little scary to see so much acceptance….no approval of this by the crowd that pretends to own and champion the notion of a free press.

Fox News reports using all of the same things that CNN and the others use.

if it weren't the case, all the other outlets would not have expressed their say

    party of tolerance, my arse

It's not different views, it's batch*t insane views.

The administration and Fox are playing different games. Obama appears to be trying to be reasonable and constructive, and Fox is the monkey in the lab smearing sh*t on the walls.

They've received plenty of constructive criticism from centrist media, and they're not shutting this out. That's just a simple over-statement.

Only if you're looking for things to attack because you don't like the guy's politics. Fox News is like special education students. No matter how reasonable you are with them they still pour milk down your pants.

    but they all do.

you just disagree with this one which is why you would like to see it gone.

that makes you a bad person

    that is your opinion.

again, that is your opinion. shutting out news outlets is not reasonable.

Not really. Their lack of anything resembling usefulness or intelligence insults me. It's not the politics, it's the stupidity. There's a difference.

Wags finger? What is this, third grade? Oh, wait.

Wow, you honestly can't defend your position. Your embarassing yourself.... You do realize that the free exchange of differing opinions is what makes this country and freedom so great.

MSNBC says hi......If you are going to ban Fox News for having a bias, will you admit that MSNBC should also be banned for having a bias in the polar opposite direction????

To a right-winger? That's awesome news for me, then.

    News != opinion.
