A lot of people don't like Barney Frank, but he knows how to stand up for what he believes. This is how to handle the town hall situation.

Barney Frank goes toe to toe at health care town hall - CNN.com

WOMAN: "Why do you continue to support a Nazi policy, as Obama has, expressly supported this policy? Why are you supporting it?"

FRANK: "When you ask me that question, I am gonna revert to my ethnic heritage and answer your question with a question: On what planet do you spend most of your time? ... As you stand there, with a picture of the president defaced to look like hitler, and compare the effort to increase health care to the Nazis, my answer to you is, as I said before, it is a tribute to the First Amendment that this sort of vile contemptable nonsense is so freely propagated. Ma'am, trying to have a conversation would like be like trying to have an argument with a dining room table -- I have no interest in doing it."

You won't find many Barney Frank supporters here flex. I know you like him, but since you & agree on much, I don't understand how you can like what he stands up for or how he does it.

He would spend us into bankruptcy if he had his way. A definate socialist.

That Barney Frank is a rude little Queen. I'm glad they gave it to him. He puts his panties on like everyone else, one leg at a time.:D

I'm ambivilent towards him, but i like how he stands up for himself though. There is a certain group that blames Frank, Carter, and Dodd for for whats wrong in the world. I never really paid much attention to him until he started being vilifed.

There are waaayyy too many people to blame for the mess we're in to point fingers at individuals. Mass greed is the real culprit.

I "think" that Frank believes EVERYONE should own a home...a totally ridiculous thought.

No he gave it to them. Anyways if i were a congressman or a senator and someone called Obama or "W" Hitler i'd have the same reaction. It cheapens the death of 70 million people.

Like i sid i don't really pay attention to him, so i don't know if thats his position or not. My position on the matter is its crazy to think everyone is Entitaled to own their own home. During this housing bubble these lenders giving out houses to crack heads, people that in no way could afford to pay the mortgage. It all came down on their and OUR heads. But it was greed driven, it hasn't been proven to me yet that Frank, Carter, and Dodd were responsible. The people doing the lending and the irresponsable people signing for the houses were responsible.

I can give or take Barney, but he handled this situation well.. once again there are the lowlights of his town hall, instead of the highlights... the press loves a conundrum.

    Barney Frank:
He is the "Master" of the Insult, he is very witty and you can't Insult Him, insults roll off his back like water off a duck, he has a way with with words and he is very quick and intelligent, on top of all that he is nothing but a Piece Of Disgusting Sh!t.

His constituants deserve him, but America doesn't.

I wonder what he would have said if she just asked " Why do you support this program?" As a follow up "would you commit your own family to it?"

But she would not get her 15 minutes of fame, or win the favor of the Lyndon Larouchites out there...

Congress won't allow a vote to put themselves on this program, they have exempted themselves and federal employees, this speaks volumes.

That would be a conflict of interest... an appearance of impropriety... makes sense... step back from the edge.

Barney, Nancy, Harry, Barbara ... all need to go. If for no other reason than for the people to send a message. The time is right for the people to finally get their message heard in DC.

Under Obamacare Teddy the swimmer wouldn't get treatment for his Brain cancer, congress should be subject to the same plans the rest of us would be forced into they are citizens not royality (contrary to what they think).

They have Gold plated medical the average citizen doesn't have but we get to pay for their medical plan.

For once I agree w/Harry (so far as his complimentary read of Frank goes.) I never really paid much attention to his personality until I saw how much the righties hate him. That makes sense... they believe they can hate a guy if he's gay, and of course they hate a guy who wants the poor to share in America's prosperity (or however you want to phrase it... he's definitely left of the center.) So I'm not surprised Harry hates him...

But yeah, this guy has a thick skin, and put the psycho larouchite in her place exactly as every pol should do in this debate. You may like the health care plan, you may dislike it, but throwing in the adjective "nazi" deserves exactly the response she got. More congresspeople should have the balls to do so when they get crap like that.

Maybe none of the marching morons have been dumb enough to insert "nazi" into the question itself... if so, they should get both barrels.

i think you're missing it ... he's hated because he's an elitist who long ago lost touch with everyday Americans. Those who like him value intelligence in their leaders. Those who hate him value common sense in their leaders. the fact that he is gay has little to nothing to do with it. Frank has never really flaunted his being gay.

I never realized what a lefty apologist you are PFnVA ... always thought you were closer to the middle .. oh well ... you have that right ... I mean left. ;) :americaflag:

Hey, place me anywhere you want. Most people here say I'm some kind of commie. But I'm with the folks here who like Frank's style. His speaking style is pragmatic/down to earth, in interviews and the like. His speech patterns may benefit from a few hours with a speech pathologist, but I didn't find it impossible to listen to him. I don't know how he's elitist, other than that he doesn't talk down to his audience and rely on anecdotes.

I've found lately that "elitist" is far too often a synonym for "obviously smarter than me." I want smart leaders. And no, I don't think the CRA caused our economic meltdown.

I also understand he's up to his ass in sweetheart deals, certainly according to this forum. But that was not the subject of this particular diatribe.

The old Barney was way closer to the people ... Nancy pelosi ruined him.

I also think Frank is an arrogant sob with an elitist's attitude. It's one thing to try to help the poor, it's another to be willing to bankrupt the federal gov't in that attempt.

I knew he had lost it when he said everyone should be able to buy a house.

Kim Jong Il takes a lot of flack, but if you had to pick ONE insane despotic dictator to be on your team in the Silver Screen edition of Trivial Pursuit, you can't tell me it would be anybody else.

While he has not flaunted it, there are those who will never forget and continually bring up his indiscretions from the 80's.. he does not need to, his detractors do it for him.

Did you actually watch the linked video? It completely debunks what you say about his stance on spending.
