Obama Lovers all over America are planting green beans on top of their septic tanks.
As the Obama administration expands U.S. involvement in Afghanistan, military experts are warning that the United States is taking on security and political commitments that will last at least a decade and a cost that will probably eclipse that of the Iraq war.
Military Analysts Expect Long-Term, Costly U.S. Effort in Afghanistan
I was under the impression that Mr. Obama was going to have a conference with Mr. Bin Laden to find a peaceful resolution to the Afghanistan problem.
They have been trying to divide and conquer the Taliban, holding meetings with some moderate Taliban (whatever that is). Perhaps the recent shooting between Taliban or the likely killing of a key Al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan are some of the fruits of this approach.
At any rate, I don't know what we should do about Afghanistan. After all, we went in there and artificially divided it into a relatively moderate country and radical one. If we left, our allies might be quickly wiped out by the far more violent and suicidal Taliban and Al Qaeda. In addition, given that the Taliban control half of Afghanistan, it seems plausible that Afghanistan is the best home base for terrorist operations. They do represent a serious threat. I think we need to stay and try to stabilize the situation before we can consider leaving.
Sorry Harry, he never said he was going to stop all wars. He said he was going to get out of Iraq and consentrait on Afganistan.
Obama can end the war withing days - just go to Afghanistan and apologize.
Yup. He can send Bill Clinton to Afghanistan and apologize to Bin Laden.
How do you stabilize a country with no economy outside of growing poppy plants? The have no economy, 90% of the country is illiterate, many in the outskirts are opium addicts ... even giving it to their kids to soothe them.
I think we would be far better off coming to terms with the Taliban and let them run the country because they are not going away ... ever. They will defend that land with every last life they have.
I had a good friend from Afghanistan ... he used to tell me all the Taliban stories. He was Pashtun, his father smuggled him out of the country so the Taliban wouldn't get him. You don't join the Taliban ... they take you when your young and then that's it. If you want your family to survive you go with them and stay with them until you die.
Obama is making a mistake here and I think he will realize it sooner rather than later. These people have kicked our butts and the Soviets butts. With donkeys, rifles, grenade launchers, and now the IED's. Unless we put several hundred thousand soldiers there we won't get anywhere and even at that perhaps we can control some cities at best.
Obama's method is more soldiers and convert the poppy fields ... converting the poppy fields is killing these people with starvation and it's pulling them back over to the Taliban.
Oh sure. And Bush could have done the same in Iraq. Hypocrite.
I remember the left was all in a tizzy regarding Bush letting the CIA do the drone kills ... now their voices are silent.
Is there a difference between drone kills and waterboarding?
Knowing that death could be flying above you at any moment ...
even for the innocent ... the crickets have become the shouters on this one.
