Barack Obama 'to visit Jerusalem and Ramallah to press for peace' - Telegraph

The US president's peace plan calls for Israel and the Palestinian Authority to hold a series of regular meetings over the coming year.

Mr Obama, who set Middle East peace as one of his top foreign policy goals when he assumed office in 2009, will make his first visit as president to Israel and the West Bank to persuade both sides to agree to concessions for the sake of peace.

Mr Obama will oversee the relaunch of direct talks between the two sides next week in Washington.

Although Washington is pushing for a comprehensive peace deal within 12 months, implementation will be spread out over a 10-year period, according to a report in Yediot Aharonot, the Israeli newspaper.

I can't wait for the Republican party to roll out the "peace is overrated" talking points.

As for peace, he should consider ending the violent nation building experiments in Iraq and Afghanistan before pretending that he can make any progress with peace between Israel and [insert country here].

How many years have we been at this now?

What I don't understand is why do they need us or anyone else to bring about peace.

We are the most war mongering nation on the planet ... and we are there to talk peace.

    That's messed up.

It's probably a re-election gambit. Not that it means that if improvement is made then it's a bad thing. But US policy with respect to Israel is so disgustingly supportive regardless of any of that country's behavior (remember the unnecessary assault on the Palestinians in between presidents?) that any change now is really only lip service. The empire has had essentially the same view on Israel since it was founded.

American Presidents all do this, it's nothing but a bunch of political bullsh!t, those middle east people have been killing each other for years and another clown president from America ain't gonna stop them, they enjoy killing each other, it's what they do.

Does Jug Ears bring his golf clubs to the middle east when he goes there.
