Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

Uhm!!!Sorry

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

hes right. i dont know if that sorry was sarcasm. I was just saying though i wish him luck I didnt see him returning.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

No need to be sorry, he ain't the boss.

Sheesh, I wasn't damning him for all eternity. Just pointing out something to him.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

I'm happy for the guy. He grew up and went to college in one of the great metro areas of the US -- arguably of the world -- and now he gets to go back there and make lots of money.

And he got his ring early in his career, so he can focus on money, lifestyle, and all those other job concerns everybody has.

I never want an ex-Patriot to do super-well, because I want the bidding to be under control for our future FAs -- but I hope he does well for himself. E.g., that he underperforms his contract a little, but not so badly as to be cut. ;)

I hope he does good as well. He could have a decent chance to do some good things in san fran. we have developed him and he is pretty good but may have reached his potential here but in another system they could use him to rush the passer alot more. IMO dont be suprised if his sack total rises, he had 5.5 here in half a season as starter and the other half as primary backup and pass situations. I expect at least 7.

Nice sign for the 49ers, they are getting a player that could be primed fo ra breakout season and a guy who has playoff and superbowl experience.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

NFLN just said 3 yrs, 8.7 mil. I like him a lot, I remember when people on this board had him projected going in the second or third round. I was really surprised at how far he dropped.

ot: lol at PFT's sub-headline. "31 other teams concede Lombardi to SF" after the signing lol

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

At least, the Jets didn't get Tully. Go Pats:rocker:

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

Pats didn't exactly go to Branchian proportions to retain TBC and Graham.

I think that says something.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

I don't know why many dislike TBC. After all, he filled in quite nicely into the linebacker rotation after Junior Seau went down. Five and a half sacks for a guy with little opportunity ealry in the season is not too shabby.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

I don't dislike him, he's simply a pass rush specialist and special teamer.

If anything, I'm disappointed in the Patriots for not having more linebackers in development. Alexander forced into action in the AFC Championship game? Wow!

Not the F. O.'s finest hour.

Exactly. Enter AD. Enter Pierre Woods for God's sake.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

The deal was for less money than I expected; He apparently signed for 4 years for $12.5 million Thats works out to $3.1 million per. But he will get another big payday as he wil turn thirty and be a FA again...

I think it is a lot of cash for a role and ST player, glad for him he got it, but not good value in the big scheme of things. This is another reason that SF will just be another team next year.

I like Pierre. I just don't like him, (or Alexander or TBC) by default.

We've got the Big Dog in A.D., I'm dying to see how we fill in. Remember Davis is gone.

Izzo's signed, but I have to believe he's training his successor.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

TBC should have seen the writing on the wall in the AFC Title game when they moved Vrable to his position and started Alexander.

He is a decent ST player and in the right D could be a force. He had 5.5 sacks last year. I think he will become a 3rd down rush specialist for the 9ers. The Pats decided he couldn't start here long term and moved on, no big deal. Unfortunately, he will be remembered here as hitting Manning late for a 15 yd penalty on that game winning drive. (even though the ref called a love tap a roughing penalty)

Hear, hear.

The patsies' backup LBs, after TBC replaced Seau, were the worst in football last season. The worst. Period. This situation absolutely must not repeat itself this season. AT has replaced TBC, but nobody has replaced the backups - so far. Re-signing Izzo does not help, but that's a story for another thread.

I, too, wish TBC well. He now can play his home games at home, before family and friends. Like T Brady, he probably was a 49ers fan as a boy. He also receives a raise in pay. Not a bad gig if you can get it. Not a real big loss, either, esp. if the contract calls for anything > $2.5M/yr. He was invisible vs. SD, and, because Bruschi can no longer effectively cover RBs/TEs, he lost his start vs. Indy to - gulp - Eric Alexander, who "performed" vs. the dolts as well as TBC "performed" vs. the bolts.

The question now remains: Who will be our backup LBs? Pierre Woods, who should have played more in the AFCC, will vie for one OLB spot. Therefore, a vet (and not a fossil like Chad Brown) could be signed for the other spot. I always thought that Monty Beisel was a better fit at OLB than ILB, but I know that he's not walking through that door. At least one OLB should be drafted, maybe on the second day. An ILB must be drafted on the first day, however. If Willis or Posluszny drop to #24, then I would select the best available DB with #28. There are still some good, young vet ILBs available, some of whom have ST experience, e.g. Kevin Adams, Liam Ezekial, Tony Gilbert, Isaiah Kacyvenski. Junior Seau is also welcome to return. Alexander and Corey Mays are not, however. We can do much, much better. We deserve better.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

No big loss IMO to one dimetional and not even great at being a rush specialist.

Re: Tully Banta-Cain signed with the 49ers

IMHO, TBC is a very very good pass rush specialist. I don't see him long enough to say one way or other that he cannot defend the run or set the edge.

Though, I don't see him making a lot of tackle of the opposing offenses' run play.

I don't think the Pats would keep him, which turn out to be true. I think he will sign a decent contract somewhere else base on his pass rush. Also, turn out to be true
