Bachmann, speaking to a town-hall meeting in South Carolina, said she would pursue energy policies that send pump prices down to levels not seen since early 2009, at the thick of the U.S. recession. “Under President Bachmann you will see gasoline come down below $2 per gallon again,” she said in Greenville. “That will happen.”

Bachmann and other GOP White House contenders are calling for much more aggressive U.S. oil drilling — her campaign backs drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and wider offshore production, alleging President Obama has placed too many restrictions on development.

Despite Bachmann’s vow to ease consumers’ costs, however, U.S. officials have few options to substantially affect gasoline prices, especially in the near- or medium-term.

Bachmann: If elected, gas prices would fall to less than $2 per gallon - The Hill's E2-Wire

"You have to be careful what you wish for because the recipe for cheap prices these days is economic disaster," said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, to the Los Angeles Times. "If we go below $2 a gallon, it probably means there has been a lot of wealth loss and we are in a deflationary period."...

The price of oil is tied to global oil prices -- not just on how much oil the United States can produce. So even if the United States could start tapping into its oil reserves, it's unlikely that it would have a major impact on the global price of oil.

Ultimately, Bachmann's statement that she will lower gas prices could appeal to consumers feeling their wallet get smaller and smaller after gas station visits. But if they were smart and looked into it a bit - they'd realize it's much better to have gas prices in the $3 to $4 dollar range, as they currently are, than the $1.79 it was in 2008.

Why Michele Bachman's $2 Gas Promise is a Bad Thing - International Business Times

Drill babay drill will not have a sufficient effect even if Bachman can convince enough voters to elect her in 2012. She would have to drastically increase US government subsidies to artificially depress gas prices, or demand due to the global recession would have to drop precipitously, which it won't.

Sucks being in third place one week after you were in first. You might be willing to literally say anything. "Batsh!t crazy stupid" might describe her and her followers.

We haven't built a refinery in >30 years. We restrict using our available resources and pour money down rat hole of inefficient 'renewables', see the gov subsidized Solar companies that went out of business this week in MA and AZ.

Glad a candidate is talking seriously about dealing with our energy problems.

Bachman could not be serious or intelligent if her life depended on it, she plummeted from 1st to 3rd in one week.

Saying she could bring the price of gas down to $2.00 is just blowin smoke up your butt..

Well we see where the famously intelligent Obama has gotten us........

HE goes on vacation while the economy is melting down.

An energy policy from Seasame Street. As opposed to Bachmann who has goals that could benefit Americans as opposed to campaign donors and corporate welfare Pals (the CEO if GE for example who is getting taxpayers $$$$ for 'renewable' energy while his corp pays no taxes, and ships jobs to China while the head of Obama's jobs council.)

What a sick joke played on the ignorant and sheep.

What are her "serious" approaches to our energy problems?

Do you really think ANWR is anything but a stopgap?

I hear a candidate pandering for votes.

How dare anybody oppose the loons beautiful posterboy, Little Dink Toe Jug Ears.

Anybody and everybody that dares to publicly disagree with Barack Hussein Obama should have their Rubbish Bags consficated and their E-Mail tapped, then they and their whole family should be disgraced and destroyed. That is the left wing way to settle things.

Harry Lib's don't hate oil there just smart enough to understand that its not a renewable energy source, it means that someday its going to run out!!!! Go look outside, everything is run on oil and someday the oil is gonna be gone, what then? Do I really have to tell you the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper?

Let me ask you a Q harry, would you invest and build all your money into something that you knew one day would dissaper and be gone? or would you be smart enough to understand that you can't put all your eggs in one basket? I hope the later.....

We can't keep building our world around something that's going to be gone someday, use some common sense Harry......Oh wait never mind I think I may be asking too much=)

Bachmann also advocates defaulting on the debt.

Do that for a long enough period of time, and you might just get your $2 per gallon gas. Plunge the world into a global depression, trust me, competition for available petroleum-based products will decrease.

    We now know the plan...

Remember when Bush promised lower gas prices? Bush had more pull then Bachman (Texas, oil guy, friends in Saudi Arabia, more intelligent {cringe}) and he couldn't do it. Seriously, you have to be a very loyal follower to accept that comment.
