A major headache here in Louisiana is the outrageous rates people have to pay for the bare minimum liability coverage on their auto. A lot of it can be attributed ot the high rate of uninsured, as well as the fact that these seem to be the worst drivers in the country (IMHO). The first part is what bothers me the most. I suggest this: Add an additional $.05 to each gallon, which would go into a State controlled fund, that would be used to provide every motorist that buys gas basic liability coverage. Insurance is paid at the pump. Addtional coverage (higher liability, theft/collision/fire, commercial) would still be purchased privately. This would merely ensure that an accident never involves an uninsured vehicle.
