O5 03:31 1:12 NE 49 3 3 Punt

Score: 6; 10

m: 1st and 10
r: Pass, Childress on a crossing pattern, incomplete.
o: 2 wide, Childress right, Kight left, 2 TE, Rasby right, Thomas left, motion-Childress side skips in toward the slot;
OL Britt, Yates, Mruczkowski, Stevenson, O’Callaghan;
Cassel and Maroney.
d: 4-3, SLB & SS online outside the TEs, LCB soft, RCB press-moves back before the snap.
b: Rasby hand checked the SS (Malloy), Maroney picked up his blitz just as O’Callaghan stepped on Rasby and knocked him down, Malloy got inside Maroney but was tripped by O’Callaghan stepping on him; D.Thomas and Britt doubled the LDE, Britt released to eyeball possible LB blitzers; Thomas was driven back near Cassel by the DE; Yates stood up the LDT; Mruczkowski blocked the RDT to the right; Stevenson blocked the RDE to the right; O’Callaghan and Rasby combined to sandwich the right side defenders between the four blockers.
c: Zone
a: Cassel held the ball for a 4.5 mississippi count, then threw it off his back foot as the LDE drove D.Thomas back near him, Childress was open earlier as best I can tell, but he got hurried and one hopped the pass.

m: 2nd and 10
r: Pass, batted down, incomplete.
o: CBS sucks, CBS sucks, CBS sucks
d: CBS really sucks, the vacuums were too busy reliving last season to focus on the play developing and brought live action back well after the snap.
a: The right side of the pocket collapsed allowing a defender to get a hand up and knock the pass down. On the replay you can see O’Callaghan blocking the RDE; Stevenson and Mruczkowski doubled on the RDT who knocked the ball down; Yates handled the LDT; Britt is backstopping D.Thomas who is working well outside against the LDE.

m: 3rd and 10
r: Scramble, Cassel, 3 yds.
o: Shotgun, Maroney left, Kight wide right, Childress slot right, Musinski wide left, D.Thomas flanked left-motion right flank.
d: 4-2 nickel, 4 DBs 12+ yds deep, with a nickelback up 5 yds off the slot, on the motion the LCB came up in press coverage.
b: Designed rollout right; D.Thomas and O’Callaghan doubled the RDE; Mruczkowski and Stevenson doubled the RDT, then Mruczkowski released to help triple the LDT; Britt and Yates doubled the LDT; Maroney picked up the LDE and was easily tossed aside.
c: Zone.
a: Cassel rolled out right trying to find an open man with 7 men covering 3; The pocket in front was holding up okay, but Britt couldn’t get back in time to pick-up Maroney’s man bearing down from behind; Cassel acted like his game timer had counted down and took off up the middle to feed the LBs.

m: 4th and 7
r: Punt, Miller, 40 yds, downed at the Atlanta 8.
n: Andrews working as right gunner beat his man inside and was there inside the 5 to body check the bouncing ball, Izzo downed it at the 8; Poteat was the other gunner, he was run away from the play by his blocker; Alexander, Izzo, and G.Scott were all down in coverage, Izzo made a nice sliding play to collect the ball before it rolled further upfield.

Score: 6; 10

It looks like Thomas and Maroney were scheduled for blocking practice on this series. They still need a lot of work, though Thomas is no worse than Watson at this point.

I noticed the same thing on this series Box. Maroney seems to stick his nose in but he needs technique work.
Its amazing to watch Watson and Thomas block compared to Graham. It's night and day. Graham attacks, Watson and Thomas hold on. One of the reasons the Patriots are unique is Graham's blocking. He's not a big Kyle Brady or Jason Dunn third tackle TE, he's mobile, fast and nasty.

Great breakdowns btw, its what makes this board great.

I consider Graham to be a higher re-signing priority then Branch due to his superb blocking and big play capability.

To Mav4 and yourself, and on behalf of Pats1 who is vacationing at the wrong time again, thanks for the kudos.

Score: 6; 10

m:1st and 10
r: Wheel route, FB, 11 yds.
o: I formation, 2 WR left, TE right;
DL L.Smith, Sullivan, S.Thomas;
LB Woods, Alexander, Gardner, Mincey;
CB C.Scott, Warfield;
S G.Scott, Andrews.
d: 4-3, LCB 10 yds deep, RCB rotated in by ILBs.
b: L.Smith was blocked by the RB; Sullivan drew a double-team from the RG/C, with the RT and LG watching; S.Thomas was stood up by the LT.
c: Warfield came up at the snap, handchecked the LWR-should have been called for illegal chuck; Mincey trailed the slot receiver underneath; C.Scott picked up the TE; Woods attempted to chuck the TE and was ole’d, he then missed the FB’s wheel route, instead dropping into a zone in the left flat; Gardner saw the FB and came from his spot on the right side to try and get outisde in front of the FB.
a: Woods should have rushed, hoping that Alexander would rotate over to cover his area, or trailed the FB out in the flat instead of dropping back.
n: Begin 2 minute drill.

m: 1st and 10
r: Pass, TE buttonhook, 8 yds, fumble out of bounds, loss of 3 yds, net 5 yds.
o: 3 wide, 2 left, TE right.
d: 4-2 nickel;
DL Woods, Klecko, L.Smith, Mincey;
LB Alexander, Izzo;
CB C.Scott, Warfield, Poteat;
S G.Scott, Andrews.
b: Klecko tripled by RG/C; Woods blocked by RT; L.Smith stunts behind Klecko and is picked up by the RG releasing off Klecko, Mincey and the LT battle to a standstill.
c: Izzo dropped to deep center. Poteat was man on the slot; Warfield was man on the LWR, Scott was man on the RWR, Ss in deep zones; Alexander went with the TE.
a: Klecko and L.Smith got a good push up the middle and Woods had a good push off the edge, but Schaub stood in as the pocket collapsed and got the pass off to the TE. Alexander made a nice tackle stripping the ball, but it rolled out of bounds before anyone could recover it. C.Scott did a nice job of breaking off his coverage when he saw the QB commit, and was right there to get a lick on the TE as Alexander brought him down.

m: 2nd and 5
r: QB scramble, 7 yds.
o: 3 wide, 2 right, TE left, motion-slot right to left.
d: 4-2 nickel, Poteat and Warfield press, C.Scott soft - motion-Poteat followed slot WR, Warfield backed off the line.
b: Woods went wide on the RT and pressured the QB; Mincey drove the LT back into the QB’s comfort zone; Klecko and L.Smith stunted right and were sandwiched in a 3 on 2.
c: CBs in man, S deep zone, Alexander ran with the TE, Izzo spied on the QB, then took the RB releasing underneath.
a: Good coverage upfield and pressure from Woods and Mincey made the QB step up in the pocket, he was then able to see a clear path to the 1st down as the RB drew Izzo off to the right flat.
n: Atlanta called timeout to save the clock.
n: Pats call timout at the end of the Atlanta stoppage.

m: 1st and 10
r: Pass, dumpoff, incomplete.
o: 3 wide, 2 right, TE left.
d: 4-2 nickel, CBs in press, Ss deep.
b: Woods taken wide by the RT; Mincey drove the LT deep; L.Smith stood up by the LG; Klecko doubled by the C/RG.
c: Man, Izzo picked up the RB underneath, Alexander on the TE.
a: Smith’s stand-up may have been planned to protect against a QB scramble again; Klecko beat the RG outside and was chased by the RG/C who got to him just as he forced the QB to step up; L.Smith did a good job of keep his arms up in the face of the QB, who finally found his dump-off RB just in time as Mincey broke free of the LT and hit him from behind; Izzo had good coverage, the ball was one hopped as the QB threw it away.

m: 2nd and 10
r: Pass, dumpoff, incomplete-penalty, hands to the face, 5 yds, automatic first down.
o: 3 wide, 2 right, TE left.
d: 4-2 nickel, press coverage.
b: Klecko doubled by the RG/C; L.Smith stood-up by the LG; Woods took down the RT and pressured the QB; Mincey took down the LT and pressured the QB.
c: Man, Izzo spying on the RB, Alexander running with the TE.
a: Good pressure from the 2 rookies on the edge forced Schaub to throw away the ball near a WR who was unable to get off the line; Chad Scott did a good job jamming the rookie from Fresno State and keeping him from getting off the line; Poteat got flagged for hands to the face, his hand swept over the WR’s face mask as the receiver juked trying to keep Hank from getting a jam on him, the announcers didn’t think it much of a jab, but noted this was a point of emphasis for officials.

m: 1st and 10
r: Screen right, 37 yds.
o: 3 wide left, TE right, motion-inside WR moved to slot right.
d: 4-2 nickel, soft coverage.
b: Mincey was taken wide by the LT; Woods was taken wide by the RT; Klecko and L.Smith were ole’d through the line, Klecko was in Schaub’s face when he dumped-off to the RB.
c: CBs in man, Alexander picked up the TE and was screened from the play; Izzo was in a middle zone watching the right flat; Ss deep.
a: Klecko and L.Smith either failed to recognize a screen play or felt they could get to Schaub first; Izzo missed the screen and was looking elsewhere; Alexander was focused on the TE and not watching the backfield; C.Scott was the first guy to react to the OL coming out, but was chipped enough by one for the RB to get by him-he did turn the runner back inside, but the interior pursuit was too slow reacting to the screen and was unable to get there against a 4.3-ish RB in the 40; Warfield did a nice job coming from across the field to push the RB out of bounds.

m: 1st and 10
r: Pass, sideline go, incomplete.
o: 3 wide, 2 right, TE left, motion-slot right to flanker left.
d: 4-2 nickel, press on the right, soft on the left-Poteat was behind the DE tracking the slot man when the ball was snapped.
b: The O-line did a pivot right leaving Mincey one-on-one with the RB who checked him long enough for the QB; L.Smith was doubled by the LT/LG; Klecko remains the fastest off the snap - he was doubled by the C/RG; Woods was taken wide by the RT.
c: CBs in man, Ss deep zone, ILBs shallow zone underneath.
a: Schaub threw the ball perfectly over C.Scott’s coverage dropping it so it brushed the WR’s finger tips; Atlanta flooded the left side with 2 WRs and a TE dragging the Ss over since they had responsibility for the TE with neither of the ILBs running with him.

m:2nd and 10
r: RB Draw, no gain.
o: 3 wide, 2 right, TE left.
d: 4-2 nickel, Warfield and Poteat in press coverage, ILBs showing blitz, Sullivan in for L.Smith
b: RT takes Woods wide and deep past the play; Mincey is stood up by the LT; Sullivan is checked by the LG; Klecko is doubled by the RG/C; Alexander is blocked upfield by the TE; Poteat is blocked by the slot WR; Warfield is blocked by the LWR; The C released off Klecko too late to meet Izzo.
a: Izzo was camped where he blitz faked reading the RB and reacted instantly to meet the runner in the backfield; Klecko drawing a double-team left Izzo unblocked.
n: Atlanta timeout.

m: 3rd and 10
r: Pass, sack, loss of 5 yds.
o: 3 wide left, TE right.
d: 4-2 nickel, press coverage, Izzo showing blitz; Banta-Cain in for Mincey.
b: Woods checked by the TE; Klecko doubled by the RT/RG; Sullivan doubled by the C/LG; Banta-Cain beat the LT around the edge.
c: CBs in man, Ss deep zone, Izzo and Alexander sat underneath in shallow zones spying the backfield.
a: Banta-Cain flat out beat the LT and got to the QB from his blind side before he could react; C.Scott jammed the devil out of the inside WR who never got beyond 5 yds before the play was over.
n: On the replay from behind the pocket you can see the RT wrapped around Klecko like a bearskin coat, must be new rules on holding if you make it look like a friendly frolic.
n: Pats timeout.

m: 4th and 15
r: Field Goal converted from 50 yds.
n: Hobbs looked good trying to block the kick.

Score: 6; 13

Ugh, I need to get back to work.

Time to finish series 2 and 3 tonight, then start converting Box's work over to the HTML page. (unless Dave wants to run the macro instead).

Fun night ahead.

O6 00:36 0:36 NE 24 1 -1 End of Half

Score: 6; 13

Kickoff: Taken at the NE 2 by Andrews, 22 yd return; Kight had a decent block, Andrews isn’t very twisty and was unable to avoid bouncing off Kight slowing him enough for pursuit to close the gap and tackle him; Mike Wright is a blocker on the KO return team.

m: 1st and 10
r: Kneel down
n: end of the 1st half.

I've had enough fun for one day, I just don't bounce back like I used to from the ministrations of hospital professionals. Once you get caught up we'll have one half done.

My overall impression, Cassel is still thinking too much, he just needs more reps.
The offensive line play looks stronger this year, there is some good chemistry developing, that includes the second string - though I'm still concerned about depth at LT without Kaczur healthy.
C.Scott is working very hard for his roster slot.
TBC is at least as good as Matt Chatham, but with a killer first step.
Mincey needs work, but I like his potential.
Woods is the same way, though it seems like he is taking to the pass rush and edge play faster.
Sullivan has some great talent, if he devotes himself to learning the technique and reads, he could challenge Vince for the NT job.
Santonio Thomas looks very good for a reserve DL, I'd like to see him take some first team reps in a game to measure up against starters.
Andrews is an excellent gunner and PR, he is a decent reserve for KR.
I still think Beisel has the tools and will develop into a good, if not great ILB-he needs more exposure to Bruschi.
Childress looks very good from what I can see when the camera catches him on a route, now the QBs need to use him.
Can't think anymore for a while.

I agree with the Sullivan observation. A lot of people (media, who don't really watch the game anyway) said he was terrible vs Atlanta but I disagree. Sure he was on the ground for a couple plays but I thought he took to two-gapping quite well. Took up a lot of space and used his hands well. Remember how long it took Wilfork to two gap? Even a veteran like Traylor struggled the first few games. Sullivan has all the potential in the world and definetly flashed some last Friday.

I think having a two NT rotation is great for our DL, as I think that position wears down the fastest.

Lets not forget the chop blocks Sullivan had to duck regularly.

2nd and 2 Atl 7

Result: Run, Maroney, up the middle, 0 yds.
Offense: 2 WR, Caldwell wide left, Kight wide right, 2 TE, Watson down off LT, Thomas in motion left wing to LG, Maroney lone RB.
Defense: 4-3, FS follows Thomas in motion close to line, CB on Kight pressure coverage, CB on Caldwell 7 yards off.
Blocking: Watson overpursues inside on the DE Abraham and is quickly shed, turning around to see Abraham stopping Maroney in the backfield, with the WLB Brooking following in
Light can’t get to the FS Crocker coming in, so turns inside to double the DT Coleman with Mankins
Mankins stands up the DT Coleman and turns him outside to get the angle
Hochstein and Neal drive the DT Shropshire left to open up a big hole
Gorin goes into the second level and bulldozes the SLB Boley back into the endzone
Thomas continues across the line the in motion but overpursues on the DE Kerney, and has to resort to an arm wrap from behind as Kerney helps on the stop

Analysis: While the interior OL was able to engulf the DTs and open up a hole, the exterior of the line crumbled as Maroney saw the hole but got hit hard from the side by Abraham. Watson had his plate full with Brooking and Abraham, two very good players setting up to pressure him on the edge, but he was unable to corral either of them. Abraham was able to push off Watson’s outside shoulder on the snap and shed the block, Brooking following in from behind. On the other side of the line, Thomas’ responsibility was the trap block on the DE Kerney. When Thomas lowered his shoulder, Kerney did the same, and then launched Thomas over his back. Thomas quickly locked on to Kerney’s back from there, but he was undersized and overmatched. Abraham made the initial hit, and then Kerney, Thomas in tow, finished out the tackle.

3rd and 2 Atl 7

Result: Pass, Caldwell from Brady, Incomplete, quick slant, pass dropped.
Offense: 4 WR, Maroney wide left, Kight left slot, Thomas right slot, Caldwell wide right, TE Watson standing left wing.
Defense: 4-2-5 nickel, WLB and NB pressure coverage on slots, FS 5 yards off Watson left wing, both CBs 7 yards off.
Blocking: Light executes a lightning-quick cut block on the DE Abraham trying to beat him on the edge, sending Abraham to the ground
Mankins stands up the DT Coleman
Hochstein slides outside to protect Brady’s backside
Neal stands up the DT Shropshire
Gorin can’t drive Kerney out of the throwing lane
Coverage: Maroney fades into the endzone
Kight takes a quick out with the WLB Brooking in coverage
Watson takes a quick out underneath the FS
Thomas does a quick out underneath the NB
Caldwell cuts underneath off coverage and into the zone of the MLB, but drops the bullet from Brady

Analysis: The protection against the 4-man rush was great, but Brady needed more of a throwing lane for a lower, faster strike on a quick slant. Gorin was unable to get the DE Kerney out of that lane. Brady also had 3 receivers doing quick outs in single coverage for first down yardage, but Caldwell was clearly the best option off the snap. The CB J. Williams was in off coverage in the endzone, and he didn’t start to come up until Caldwell cut for the endzone. The MLB read the play and turned around to get to Caldwell, who was running full speed into this impending sandwich right at the goal line. The throw might have lead Caldwell a bit too much, but Brady needed to get it around the extended arm of Kerney. The most probable reason for the pass going straight into Caldwell’s outstretched hands and then bouncing out was that he took his eye off the ball just for a second to check on the incoming MLB in front of him.

4th and 16 NE 26

Result: Field Goal, Gramatica , 26 yds.

Score: New England 3 – Atlanta 3

Thanks Pats1 and Box, it really is like watching the game in slow motion.

Defensive Series #2 Punt

Contributor: Pats1
Time: 2:54 remaining in the first quarter
Statistics: 3 plays (1 run, 2 pass), 1 yard (1 run, 0 pass), time of possession was 1:10
Breakdown: 3 green plays (1 run, 2 pass) for 1 yds. (1 run, 0 pass).

Kickoff: Jennings from 7 yards back in the endzone by Gostkowski, touchback.

1st and 10 Atl 20

Result: Pass, R. White from Schaub, Incomplete, play action rollout, 20 yard out, pass overthrown.
Offense: 2 WR, 1 wide left, R. White in motion left slot to wide right, 2 TE, 1 down off LT, 1 down off RT, Duckett lone RB.
Defense: 3-4, Thomas-Smith-Wright, Banta-Cain/Davis/Gardner/Vrabel, Wilson-Hawkins-Sanders-Hobbs, both CBs 10 yards off.
Blocking: Thomas rides the LG outside before the RB Duckett comes over to give Thomas a knock
Smith slants right into the C but the RG cuts him off with a cut block
Wright is doubled by the RT and TE
Coverage: Banta-Cain attempts a lick at the TE before turning into his left flat zone
Daviscomes up to get a hit on the TE Blakely before turning around and pursuing him downfield
Gardner aggressively bites on the play action before turning around to spy Schaub on his rollout
Vrabel reads the play action and impending rollout, and drops back into his right flat zone
Hobbs trails R. White by a step on his comeback pattern to the sideline

Analysis: All of the front 7 excluding Vrabel either bit on the play action or were already in a slant towards the left side of the field. Vrabel was able to read the rollout and take away anything short for Schaub, while Hobbs stuck with R. White on his deep out. Hawkins came up on the other WR Jenkins’ crossing pattern, while the TE took a deep post into FS coverage. Schaub’s throw, without any pressure, would sail high and wide of R. White and onto the sideline.

2nd and 10 Atl 20

Result: Run, Duckett, right tackle, 1 yd.
Offense: 2 WR, 1 left, 1 right, TE down left wing, FB weak side, Duckett lone RB.
Defense: 3-4, Thomas-Smith-Wright, Banta-Cain/Gardner/Davis/Vrabel, Wilson-Hawkins-Sanders-Hobbs.
Blocking: Thomas dives over a mis-timed chop block by the TE on the backside to wrap Duckett’s feet in the backfield
Smith is driven back but towards the run direction by the LG and C
Wright beats the RT inside to force Duckett back inside but can’t break free in time to make the stop
Banta-Cain comes in free on the backside to help on the stop
Gardner slides with the run direction until he follows the cutback, sheds the oncoming LT, and helps on the tackle
Davis is met where the original hole was by the RG and driven back, but Davis is able to shed the block as the stop is made
Vrabel meets the FB in edge containment

Analysis: While not part of the tackle, Wright was the cause of the stuffed run. He muscled his way inside on the RT, forcing Duckett to abandon his hole to the right and cut back up the middle. The two unblocked backside defenders, Thomas and Banta-Cain, were then free and in position to bring Duckett down. Thomas faced some resistance by a TE chop block, but he kept his footing and grabbed for Duckett’s ankles to take out his. Both Vrabel and Davis were driven back upon engagement with their blockers, but both shed them just as Thomas was making the stop.

3rd and 9 Atl 21

Result: Pass, R. White from Schaub, Incomplete, 10 yard out, pass broken up by Samuel.
Offense: Shotgun 3 WR, 2 left, 1 right, TE down off RT, Griffith RB to right of Schaub in shotgun.
Defense: 3-2-6 dime, Thomas-Wright-Klecko, Davis-Vrabel, Sanders playing off TE, Samuel-Wilson-Hawkins-C. Scott-Hobbs.
Blocking: Thomas rides the LT outside, spinning back inside into the LG
Wright swims his way outside of the C, reaching Schaub right after the pass
Klecko drives the RG back while the RB comes up from the side and gives Klecko a knock
Vrabel rides the RT outside
Coverage: Davisbacks off a blitz look and into a short midfield zone
Sanders follows the TE into the right flat
Wilson takes away the inside of the field to the slot WR Jenkins’ sideline out
Samuel is turned around by the WR along the sideline but sticks with him on the out cut and gets his hands in on the ball

Analysis: Wilson had his back turned to the pass until right when it came in, straight into R. White’s hands. Wilson poked around and tipped the ball out as White scrambled to regain control along the sideline.

4th and 9 Atl 21

Result: Punt, Koenen, to the NE 34, Andrews dodges a tackler early before the flags and whistles fly, 45 yd. punt, 9 yd. return.
PENALTY on ATL-B. Stutz, Ineligible downfield early.
PENALTY on NE-T. Banta-Cain, Holding.

Note: Penalties offset, re-kick.

4th and 9 Atl 21

Result: Punt, Koenen, to the NE 33, Andrews is sandwiched by Izzo and Hawkins missed gunners, 46 yd. punt, 14 yd. return.

Note: After the punt, CBS showed an AFC East preview and a subtractions/additions highlight for the Dolphins. Sammy Knight was listed as a loss, when in reality he left for the Chiefs after the 2004 season.

Start of the Second Half

O7 15:00 1:30 NE 24 3 6 Punt

Score: 6; 13

Kickoff: Kight receives the ball at the NE 9, 15 yd return.
n: Atlanta does a very good job of directional kicking.

m: 1st and 10
r: Evans, stretch play right, 1 yd.
o: CBS SUCKS!!!!, %&(%& late camera work! Okay, looks like an I formation, Kight wide left, Childress wide right, TE right.
d: 4-3, SS up, no LBs on the line.
b: D.Thomas and O’Callaghan double the RDE; Callaghan releases for the next level and blocks nobody else; Stevenson and Mruczkowski doubled the RDT, Mruczkowski releases for the next level and also blocks nobody else; Yates cut blocked the LDT; Britt went upfield and blocked the WLB; Mills met the SS coming up on the edge, he seemed to turn him out enough for Evans to find a hole; Childress had the RCB locked up 6 yds up the field.
a: Despite Mills’ lead block, it looks like Evans ran into Mills allowing the LDE to make the tackle off the backside, either there wasn’t anywhere for Evans to go (bad TV camera angle as always) or he wasn’t quick enough to change direction behind the block.

m: 2nd and 9
r: Thomas, square out, 5 yds.
o: Empty backfield 5 wide, Musinski wide left, Childress slot left, Rasby two steps wide from flanker; Thomas slot right, Kight wide right.
d: Looks like a 4-7, it might be a dime package with the MLB 8 yds deep.
b: O’Callaghan missed his cut block on the RDE, but got enough to push him wide and open the throwing lane; Mruczkowski and Stevenson doubled the RDT; Yates was beaten inside by the LDT; Britt missed his cut block on the LDE.
c: Zone
a: Kight was used as a decoy to occupy the defender, allowing Thomas to run underneath and make a nice catch.

m: 3rd and 5
r: Pass, Mills in the flat, incomplete.
o: Kight wide right, Childress wide left, D.Thomas left, Mills offset left, Evans at TB.
d: 4-3, press coverage on Childress.
b: Britt got overleveraged and was taken down by the LDE, though he bought Cassel enough time and cleared the throwing lane; Yates, Mruczkowski, and Stevenson rolled the DTs into a scrum in the middle; O’Callaghan blocked the RDE and Evans gave him a chip shot on his way to the flat.
c: CBs man on the WRs, probably a deep zone for the Ss, LBs dropped into zones.
a: Cassel was a little behind Mills, forcing him to turn for a play on the ball and juggle it before falling down and losing it.
n: This was the same play as the previous one to D.Thomas, they ran it out of different formation and used Mills out of the backfield, but it was the same short passing five yard pickup to a TE in the flat behind the WR's clearout.

m: 4th and 5
r: Punt, Miller, 42 yds, Fair Catch.
n: Andrews and Poteat were the gunners; Andrews was double-teamed for the first time in the game and still beat the blockers handily; Poteat also did a nice job of beating his blocker; Miller directionally kicked it toward the right sideline (Andrews’ side) were Seely’s plan worked to perfection as Andrews beat the blockers and was there to force a fair catch.
n: BB was quized on gunners a while back, saying there had been two guys he remembered who needed triple blockers to slow them down, if Andrews keeps this up there will be a third.

Score: 6; 13

Something to note, Brady has been working on deep patterns to Caldwell & Co., including Watson, this kind of short passing game to TEs and RBs should draw defenders up and create downfield opportunities to match NEM's wettest dreams.

Keep it coming, Box.

Once I get all of what you've done converted and combine it with what I've done, I'll get back to some more tape.

Score: 6;13

m: 1st and 10
r: Run, right side, 13 yds.
o: 2 wide each side, 2 flankers each side.
d: 3-4, press coverage;
DL L.Smith, Sullivan, S.Thomas;
LB Woods, Roach, Beisel, Mincey;
CB C.Scott, Warfield;
S G.Scott, Andrews
b: Woods set the edge on the RFlanker; L.Smith allowed the RT to turn him inside; Roach was turned inside by the RG; Sullivan was engaged by the C and chop blocked again by the LG; Beisel was cut by the LT; S.Thomas was cut by the LFlanker; C.Scott was engaged by the RWR; Andrews was engaged upfield by the LWR.
a: The chop block on Sullivan drove the middle back 3 yds, the RG’s sealing Roach inside against the middle pile and the RT turning L.Smith around so his back was to the ‘B’ gap (you have to wonder if there was a hold in there) opened that ‘B’ gap wide; Woods did a good job of fighting off the block to get inside and make contact with the RB (Duckett) but an arm tackle wouldn’t do it; G.Scott came up from SS to make the stop, Mincey did a good job on backside pursuit, taking the upfield angle instead of chasing through the backfield; C.Scott also fought off his block to get a piece of the tackle.

m: 1st and 10
r: Run, right side, 5 yds.
o: I Formation, 2 WR, Wide right, Slot left, TE left.
d: 3-4, press coverage.
b: Mincey sets the edge against the TE; S.Thomas was doubled by the LT/LG; Roach was buried by the LG releasing off the double team; Sullivan was turned left and spun down by the C; Beisel met the FB in the hole; L.Smith was run wide and downfield by the RG; Woods set the edge marked by the RT, he was then engaged by the RG as he came inside towards the RB; Warfield was blocked by the LWR.
a: Players were reading a play to the left, Sullivan, Beisel, and Roach all slanted that way; The 3 DL acted like it was a pass play, each trying to penetrate into the backfield and being taken out of the way by their blockers; Beisel was late getting to the hole after biting on the left side read, he met the FB 2 yds past the LOS, this formed a ‘Y’ for the RB, who took the inside leg as Woods was closing the outside; Beisel fought off the FB’s block to get the first hit on the RB; S.Thomas came from the backside and Woods fighting inside past the RG piled on for bonus points.
n: S.Thomas penetrated between the LT/LG allowing them to just push him down in a nose dive, this left them free to engage Roach coming in to fill the hole, Roach fought a very tough double team to keep them occupied and in the hole; S.Thomas did a nice job of getting back on his feet and pursuing from the backside to get back into the play.
n: Beisel’s read to the left may have been a lack of faith in Roach, Monty was acting more like a MLB, trying to read the play into the gap and going there; He did do a nice job of fighting through the FB for the takedown.
n: With the DL’s shooting the gaps and the LBs staying home, this was a problematical defensive call.

m: 2nd and 5
r: Run, right side, 7 yds.
o: 1 WR slot to each side, flanker left, FB offset right.
d: 3-4, press coverage, SS in the box over the flanker one yd deeper then ILBs.
b: Woods sets the edge against the RT; Smith is turned outside by the RG; Sullivan is doubled by the C/LG long enough for the LG to get playside position; Roach evades a cut block by the LT, then is sealed left by the C releasing off Sullivan; S.Thomas is cut by the Flanker; Beisel was blocked out by the FB; Warfield was engaged by the LWR.
a: Beisel looked like he was playing the run off tackle, which was a very real risk as the play was developing, despite Woods’ edge guard, this set him up for the FB, though between Beisel and Roach, they held their ground once engaged with blockers and forced the RB into a narrow crease where Mincey unblocked in backside pursuit literally bulled into Roach to try and reach the RB, this overpowered the C blocking Roach and allowed Roach and Mincey to drive through the C to the RB.
n: For the record, the FB is Fred McCrary.

m: 1st and 10
r: Pass, FB, 6 yds.
o: I formation, 2 wide left, TE right.
d: 3-4, soft coverage.
b: Mincey taken wide by the LT; S.Thomas doubled by the LG/C; Sullivan doubled by the RG/RT; L.Smith cut by the RB.
c: Roach picked up the TE; Woods picked up the FB.
a: Woods tried to jam the TE, which slowed and turned him away from his shallow right zone, he then tried to hustle back in his zone and got his momentum going upfield before he saw the FB flaring out to the flat, he recovered quickly and made the tackle along the sideline; A very similar play to the ones used by D.Thomas and Mills on their pass patterns.

m: 2nd and 4
r: Run, left side, 1 yd.
o: WR slot left, FB offset left, TE right, Flanker right, Roach cheated up to blitz.
d: 3-4, soft coverage, SS and RCB in the box marking the TEs.
b: Roach and L.Smith cut by the RT; Woods is trapped behind their pile-up by the Flanker; Sullivan is doubled by the C/RG long enough for the RG to get playside position; G.Scott is cut by the C releasing off the double-team; S.Thomas was doubled by the LG/LT; Beisel is blocked by the LG releasing off the double-team as Beisel fills the hole; Mincey slips the FB’s block.
a: The RB wanted to go through the line even though the outside was wide open behind his FB’s lead off-tackle, Beisel plugging the hole forced him to go wider then he wanted, trying to push the LT through S.Thomas’ road block, he then gave that up and slid outside where Mincey had spun the FB off and was able to corral him; Roach and G.Scott both recovered quickly from the cut blocks and led the second wave that convinced the RB to go down before he was plowed under.

m: 3rd and 3
r: Pass, naked bootleg, incomplete
o: Slot duo left, FB offset right, TE left.
d: 3-4, LCB on the line outside the LOLB, Ss rotated left 8 yds off the line, RCB rotated left 8 yds behind ROLB.
b: Warfield blitzed off the edge and was taken wide by the LT; S.Thomas was cut by the LG; Sullivan did a shoulder slap on the C sending him to fall over the LG’s feet; The RG/RT were lining up on L.Smith, but lost their angle as he reacted to the naked bootleg; Woods hand fought the FB as he rushed to pressure the QB.
c: Zone
a: The QB had a man wide open in the middle of the field, sitting in a crease in the zone, he made the dangerous throw back across his body and overthrew the WR; In addition to throwing across his body, the QB had to get his pass over the outstretched arms of Woods who was in his face.

m: 4th and 3
r: Punt, 40 yds, touchback.
