Obviously not right not now or in the near future, but just for speculation's sake, how do you think the pats will go about preparing for the end of the Brady era? Do they go with the Aaron Rogers/Steve Young plan, where we invest in a blue chip prospect to groom until he's ready to replace our legend? Or are we going to be as stupid as Denver and Miami and just pick up a Brian Griese/Jay Feidler and sit in the basement of the NFL for a while until we get a high enough draft pick for a blue chip qb prospect. Discuss

DISCLAIMER: Before everyone jumps on me about this I just wanna say I'M NOT ADVOCATING THE PATS DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Well I didn't read past the first few lines, but it sounds to me like you're advocating for the Pats to do something like this in the near future. My question is why?

In about 5 years. Anything prior to that is kinda pointless, barring major injury.

With Brady getting set to model Calvin Klein underwear I think we all better
start preparring. Let's face it ... you can make $10 million getting your
helmet planted in the turf or you can make more letting women check out your package in Calvin's.

Brady is a competitor .. of that there is no doubt ... but he's a smart guy who won't need football. I see him playing to around 35 or so but not 40 ... he won't need to.

Remember that Brady barely started a whole season at Michigan, and rested for a year as a backup. Although, he is 30, his body has not taken the pounding that many others have. Our Line has helped protect him well over the years. He is a youthful 30. Lets not worry about that at the moment.

If he can stay healthy I see another 5-7 years on top for him.

If Tom is anything to go by you don't really need a high draft pick.

I think this is an excellent question and one that seldom gets discussed.

Maybe Brady plays for another 5 years - maybe its 10 like he says.

But you don't prepare the year he retires. You prepare well before that.

If its a rookie, you have him on the team 2-3 years before.

Or, maybe its a free agent.

My guess is its a combination of both. Both free agency and the draft are crap shoots. Even if we have a Rook on the team for multiple years, until he plays you don't really know what you have - meaning you'll bring in a FA as well.

But of course, looking at quite a few teams in the NFL, quite a few FAs crap out too.

Thats is true to an extent, but he is proof players who show potential, under the right guidance can become something. You won't get another Brady, but you might just get the next anomoly.

How about we change this post to talk about how many Superbowls Tom Brady is going to finish up with rather than discussing his replacement.

Not to stir the pot to death, we still have some very good years ahead of us with Brady, but father time always wins in the end. As for the future i like this guy Rusty Smith (Florida-Atlantic) 6"5 212 LBS. Was only picked off 8 times this past year. Available most likely 2010. Yes, there will never be another Brady at least not for another 15-20 years but i think this guy has what it takes to be a legit sleeper.
