Found this somewhat interesting, guys with assault rifles in Az. across from the place where Obama was holding a rally.. looks like someone is trying to ascend to the lofty throne of Joe the Plumber... give me some face time.

I never heard of anyone bringing guns to a Bush event, much less an assault weapon. I find it hard to believe that they would let someone stand there with an assault weapon while they cuffed anyone carrying a sign.

I wouldn't be standing next to that guy. I'm sure he had a few sights trained on him waiting for a wrong move.

No, but they looted and destroyed private property, which was OK because they were doing it against Bush.

One hopes that the SS or law enforcement made sure the weapon had no firing pin or was otherwise incapable of shooting a round.

Arizona is an open carry state. The man was well within his rights to do what he did. Both the protesters, and the man carrying, are simply enjoying what they are constitutionally allowed. Is it wise to carry a weapon at an event like that? Probably not, since it could create problems with either the crowd, or an itchy law enforcement. I'd venture to guess that there's some law that prevents weapons from being carried within X feet of the president. If their isn't one, I wonder if enacting one wouldn't be such a bad idea. Of course, if there isn't one already, maybe it's cuz it would be unconstitutional? Anyone know?

My thinking is that this President already has a rather large target painted on his back. If these people had any respect for the immense task that's fallen to the Secret Service, they'd find some other way to exercise their 'rights.' Its been almost 46 years since we last lost a President to gun violence. I don't believe the country has completely recovered. If something happens to this one we'll all be dead of old age before the awful reverberations are done running their course.

btw I placed the word: rights in quotation marks because there's little evidence that they are exercising their rights. It isn't about their own personal safety, its the typical right-wing act of finding some other way to control things when you lose an election.

I suspect that there were some snipers with this guy in their sights, if he made any type of move...

Obama has an insane amount of security. YouTube - Obama Leaving Tonight Show This is the day he compared his bowling to the Special Olympics, trying to be funny and going off script.

You're looking at approx. 170 law enforcement officers and Secret Service. And those are only the guys who are visible. It's what you can't see that is most impressive.

There are things in those SUVs with the backs open that fire thousands of rounds per minute. It's called a Dillon minigun, and it can turn a guy with an "assault" rifle into beef stroganoff faster than Patters can unzip his blue jeans.

More info on the guys with the assault weapons, strange how the right is attracting these guys.. felt all along that anarchy will not suit them well.. read some accounts today of attacks minorities at some of these rallies... eventually this raising hell strategy will kick them in the ass and not resonate well in the heartland.. this is not what they signed up for.

How much money do you think something like that cost? And before some hack in here starts blabbering about "Obama is wasting....", that type of security is the norm for a president. Be it Bush, Clinton, or Obama, they have an army of security, the size of a small country protecting them. Think about the $$ an appearance on the Jay Leno Show, or a speech somewhere costs.

Who's the party o free speech?

When Bush spoke in public anyone wearing a T-shirt, or carrying a sign critisizing him was arrested.

Obama speaks, people are allowed to show up with loaded weapons.

    The irony..........

First off, Contessa Brewer is very creamable. Mmmmmmmmmm......

Why does MSNBC only show the man from the shirt down? Did these clowns on TV not know, in this "racial overtones" segment, that the man in the video they showed, who is carrying the assault weapon, is um, BLACK! :confused2:

They either intentially fudged the angle of the video, or are complete jackass'. What say you?

Yup. The guy thought he was going to be tough or scare people, but he should have realized there were snipers pointing at his head the entire time.

Exercising their rights ok but what about the sixty one year old librarian that was arrested and put in hand cuffs outside of a McCain rally in '08.

She was just trying to exercise her right of free speech, and i could find A LOT more.

    http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/90700/

A 61-year-old librarian was ejected from an ostensibly public McCain campaign event at the Denver Center of Performing Arts in Denver, CO on June 7 because she was brandishing a deadly memetic weapon: a hand-lettered sign that read "McCain=Bush."

Carol Kreck was standing outside the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, which is located on city property. When she was asked to either discard the sign or get out, Ms. Kreck objected that she was standing on city property.

FYI this guy was a plant, every picture I saw his race was obvious, he was there at the behest of some half baked talk show host in Az., Ernest Han****, bottom line is advocation for some fringe militia group..

I'd venture to guess that the guy knew there would be snipers pointing their crosshairs at his head, but that he didn't give a $%^$ anyway. Not the smartest risk to take, but I guess he felt his broader point was more important. I'd personally never do what he did, but I'm not a gun guy to begin with.

I remember that incident, and while I support everyone's right to protest, she was not arrested. She was escorted out at the behest of the Secret Service, and the reason was a federal ruling that did not allow signs on the property she was standing in.

    The Secret Service said so
    By Susan Greene
    Denver Post Columnist

Again, I'm not saying I agree with tossing her out. Peaceful, or legal protests are fine by me, regardless of what they support. the man carrying the gun was outside the event if I read things correctly, and was in a place where carrying is perfectly legal.

Really? Its a typical "right wing act" ??? How do you know the person was a Republican? How do you know he's even a registered voter? Nothing like making a WAG there bud..

What evidence do you have that the person wasn't exercising his rights? Its already been pointed out that, in Arizona, it is a person's RIGHT to carry their weapon in the open as long as they are licensed.

    So, what is your "evidence"?

But he didn't, did he??? Not to mention that, even if he moved it, they'd have to have pretty clear evidence that he was making an aggressive act with it and not just adjusting which shoulder it was on..

Next time will clarify more clearly, now that I know that you will be watching every move... thanks for keeping us honest on this board.. the move being referred to was an aggressive one, I am aware did not make it clear.. but that was the intent.

It all depends on what the individual state's laws are regarding protesting. In some states, they require you to get a permit ahead if time. And there are rules and regulations you have to abide by.

As for standing on city property, that, in and of itself, is reason that she can be asked to leave. What people don't understand is that City Property does not equal Public property. So you are not entitled to do whatever you want on it.
