I heard that Vereen was back at practice today but I was curious if anyone has seen or heard anything on what Armstead and Harrison. I did read recently that Armstead has been seen doing some rehab work off to the side, Harrison has been invisible to me anyway.

Any info would be appreciate

I would expect armstead might be back after the bye. Harrison might not do anything this year. Otherwise, we might not see either of them playing this year.

Armstead is the big one for me. If he can have an impact in the LDE or DT it could really change this defense now. When Kelly gets healthy and with the emergence of Jones and Vellano. We could see a thin part of our team get shored up quick smart. It would also allow Nink to play a bit more Lb in a pinch to help that unit out with the loss of Mayo.

We have zero evidence that either are in a position to do anything. Unlike Vereen they are NOT practicing with the team. Both would require weeks of practice to have a chance of playing. Think mid-December at the earliest or more likely, late July.

Neither one of them will be a factor at all this season, in my opinion.

I'd be shocked to see either one even play a snap this season. I've moved on from even the thought of them being contributors to the team at all this year.

I could see armstead getting mid December snaps and being in for the playoffs (if we make it).

Due to the change in rules, either player needs to be brought in from the NFI list until week 11 this year, so I'd expect something to be done when they return from the bye. I believe that they then have 3 weeks to add them to the active roster or IR them for the rest of the year.

I highly doubt that Harrison will be anything but IR'ed, especially due to missing all of camp. Armstead is another situation altogether due to the lack of adequate depth at the moment on the DL, so he may end up seeing some snaps in about a month or so. We'll have to see. A roster spot will already likely have to be freed up with the expected return of Vereen, so the same would have to be done with Armstead--although they may not make that determination until week 13 or 14 when the time period is up.

Do we really have a lack of depth on the DL at the moment? Would someone with zero experience in the NFL and with the patriot system really help? In what way? We've lost Wilfork and we've brought in Chris Jones, Sopoaga and Carter. I think that we are fine at DL.

At DT, Forston is probably already gone once Kelly is back. Vellano will likely have greatly reduced reps. I suppose you could bring in Armstead and make Vellano inactive and reduce the reps of Chris Jones. Personally, I'd rather IR Armstead.

At DE, do you really believe that someone with ZERO NFL experience can replace Carter or even Buchanan. Even if Armstead took the reps of Buchanan and Bequette, that total might be zero reps. I don't see the advantage of brining in Armstead as a DE, although he likely wouldn't be any worse than Bequette. There really is no roster spot. Belichick has come this far with Bequette; apparently, he wants him in camp next year.

DT: Sopoaga, Chris Jones, Vellano, Kelly/Forston
DE: Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Carter, Buchanan, Bequette

Its not a matter of where he fits based on how you feel about the other players, its a matter of his ability and whether he would play better than the other choices.
Your approach seems to be if we have no depth let him play but if we can name a rotation put him on IR, and seems to leave out that theoretically he is a more talented DL than maybe anyone we have on the roster.
Why wouldn't the answer be to get him healthy and let him compete for playing time?

Not sure how Bequette being the last man on the bench gives any indication of BB feeling he should be guaranteed a roster spot.

Harrison was never going to see the field this year and may not ever see it, he's a project at best. Armstead isn't practicing and i don't expect any contribution from him this season. He will get another shot next camp and he better make the most of it or he will be heading to another team or back to the CFL.

Agreed. It would seem some are of the opinion that a thing such as "too much depth" exists, which seems awfully strange after this season.

    1) I have no problem with Armstead competing in practice for a roster spot over 2-3 weeks.
I just don't think that he'll beat out Vellano. My personal expectation is that he will end up on IR.

    2) Bequette is not "guaranteed" a roster spot. There have been many, many opportunities to waive Bequette and hopefully sign him to the Practice Squad. this has not happened. This situation could change at any time. I don't expect to see either Armstead or Bequette with any reps this year, so i would think it prudent to have Armstead on IR and Bequette on the 53, with both available

I used the term "lack of adequate depth" at DL, so it's certainly arguable enough no matter where you stand, although you have a fair point that it has improved lately.

I find it difficult to believe that we were in dire need of depth/talent just 48 hrs ago, and the signing of one person totally took care of everything. It just so happens that in the meantime, Tommy Kelly returned to practice yesterday, and that seems to be making you feel much more confident than the majority of the fans were feeling only 2 days ago.

As pointed out, if Belichick believes that Armstead can push anyone for playing time, he will give him that opportunity. If not, he won't. Armstead is reported to have a high ceiling of talent, so if he can go--then we should probably give him that opportunity to improve upon one of the other current players. That decision could be made within the next few weeks (11-14), as the new rule allows for this longer extended period of time to add the NFI player to the roster.

I agree on the depth of the line, there are a lot of question marks in my opinion:

    1. Will Kelly’s knee hold up
    2. Do Sopoaga and Carter have anything left in the tank
    3. Will Chris Jones sustain this level of play
    4. Will Buchanan, Vellano and Jones hit the rookie wall

If Armstead is healthy I would prefer to see him on the field over basically defensive line player we have not named Chandler Jones, I consider him to be that level of talent.

If Armstead is healthy, it seems pretty certain he would see the field before Bequette. Not sure why you think Bequette not being cut yet means anything more than he is the 53rd player until a better one comes along.
I find it very surprising that you think he would not beat out Vellano.

I find it surprising that you think that a player with no NFL experience and 3 weeks of practice with the team can be ready enough to beat Vellano.

Since I don't expect Armstead to beat out Vellano for reps, I see no point in Bequette being waived.

This is a completely bizarre post. Armstead has never played a snap in the NFL and he is now better than Ninkovich, Kelly, and Sopoaga? The guy hasn't even beaten out Jake Bequette yet. Unbelievable.

Just imagine, for a moment, if Armstead is activated and plays as we hope he can. And then both Carter and Kelly return to full strength. Even without Vince, this defensive line potentially could be something very special.

I hope Armstead comes back and is so unbelievably good he becomes a starter and wins DROY. That being said, realistically, I hope he comes in and makes the team next year, and any help he gives this year will be icing on the cake.
