Ok, it's a tidbit, but dang if there's no news besides Buffalo's getting arrested these days.

It's a brief statement, but the guy is the Miami Reiss (obviously of lesser awesomeness) so it's probably noteworthy.

Interesting, that. Very interesting. But do we really WANT or NEED JT?

I'm not sure we do.......

Legit question. At the right price, I'd like him and a draftee at the position better than Peppers. Well, I'd feel more confident, I guess. Peppers would be amazing at OLB if it could get done, but a 23 or 24 year old at the position would be nice, too.

I'm sure we need him and I know I want him on the team, Unless Vrabel's replacement is hiding somewhere on the current roster - and I don't think he's there (and when I say Vrabel's replacement, I mean a veteran Leader that can produce results immediately).

Yeah I read that he will most likely be signed by a team after the draft. Which to me implies that his signing is MIGHT be dependent what takes place during the draft guess we'll just have to sick back and watch!

Do they really need JT? Are you serious? The Pats really struggled getting after the QB last season and JT would add an instant boost to the pass rush on 3rd downs. But do the Pats really want JT? I think it all depends on the outcome of the draft or if they can acquire Julius Peppers (which I think will happen right before or on draft day).

I think there has been a lot of speculation going on with the South Florida media and not a lot of actual inside knowledge. Last week the storylines were that the Dolphins and Taylor were working on a two year deal and this week it is the Dolphins have no interest in bringing him back.

No matter where Taylor lands, it won't be until after the draft. I don't think he has any interest in joining a team until late May/June. I think he wants want to stay in FL with his family and not have to workout with the team he is joining. Not ideal for any team acquiring him, but as long as he is working out to stay in football shape it isn't the worst thing in the world.

Thing is, the only offer Taylor would probably see from the Pats is a vet-minimum or near that for only one or two years. Taylor has already been on record as saying that he, "doesn't feel he's a minimum kind of guy". Would I take Jason Taylor on this team? Sure I would. But do I think he will be in a Pats uniform next year? Nope.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think that Taylor would be a leader for the Pats? Not to speak negatively of him or anything--he's obviously a very talented guy--but expecting anyone to come in and fill Vrabel's shoes in that regard overnight is asking a bit much IMO. Personally, I think that any leadership void from Rodney's and Vrabel's departure will be filled within the current roster. With Wilfork, Seymour, Warren, Thomas, Mayo, Hobbs, Sanders, and Meriweather, there are quite a few starters out there on D who have been around the block a few times.

Re: Armando Salguero: Taylor more likely to sign with Pats.

He was a team Captain for years with the Fin's, he won the "Don Shula" Team Leadership Award twice (2002, 2006). What makes you think that he would forget how to be a leader once he got here? Leaders lead, that's what they do. He's proven that he's a leader.

Any argument to the contrary is nuts.

I do however understand your argument, that filling Vrabels shoes in respect to leadership will be impossible, he was captain many times and the union rep. for the Pats - In that respect, filling the void that Mike left won't happen. My comment was that Jason was a veteran leader, that can not be argued.

I never mentioned Rodney, but I understand your point there as well and agree that IF he his done and does not come back that leadership roll will have to come from a Patriots Veteran and not a free agent. Although, remember this: Rodney was voted a Captain his first year with the team and took a leadership roll immediately.

You are both right here. I think the problem with signing him lies in the financial aspect. They have just under $4 Million in cap room according to Miguel.

Re: Armando Salguero: Taylor more likely to sign with Pats.

Agreed - the longer the wait, the less I think we need him - However, the longer the wait the more I think it's already a done deal.

It's just too quiet. That's a Patriot hallmark.

Re: Armando Salguero: Taylor more likely to sign with Pats.

That's definitly putting a damper on things, but by now he already knows this and he still has not signed. Why would a player wait out signing a contract and miss valuable bonding time with his new teammates? For that reason I do not believe he is going to sign here or else he would have done so. I think he is either waiting for Miami to up their price, or purposely skipping offseason workouts with the team, which seems to be the new thing with older players who know how things are run, and can still perform after missing workouts.

Re: Armando Salguero: Taylor more likely to sign with Pats.

Unless I'm reading Miguel's page wrong, which I very well could be, Mayo cost around $2 Million against the cap last year. With signing bonuses and such. The top 4 picks we have this year are going to be relatively expense, which makes me feel like they aren't going to be able to sign anyone else. I actually think they trade at least one into next year. Maybe even another to trade up?

    Less is more this year.

Re: Armando Salguero: Taylor more likely to sign with Pats.

Well, there is a Rookie Cap no. and I'm not sure what that is this year, that allows you to sign your picks no matter your current Cap No. - So don't worry about the Rook's.

However, There is a over the Cap Penalty and then you have to Fit everyone under the cap the following year so that is a concern - Unless it's uncapped.

Since when is there a rookie salary cap? I thought it was just a potential proposal?

I think the actual verbiage is a "Rookie Pool", and it's a calculation that I have no idea how to recreate - Someone here with more intellect that me can either tell us and validate or restate my understanding of the Pool.

Re: Armando Salguero: Taylor more likely to sign with Pats.

How does the NFL Draft impact the Salary Cap?

Answer: Team salary includes the Rookie Minimum Active Salary as of the day of the draft for all drafted rookies. The salary for drafted rookies will stay at this amount until the player is signed, the team’s rights are relinquished through waivers, or until the Tuesday following the tenth week of the regular season if the player remains unsigned.

I got this off of "askthecommish.com"
