Ha ha. Arizona is the douchiest state.

Think Progress Arizona Expands Its Discrimination: Teachers With Heavy Accents Can’t Teach English, Ethnic Studies Are Banned

    It gets better!

I work in software and in schools and many of your best workers are foreign born. Russians, Ukranians, Chinese, Indian, South African you name it. It's that way in the college classrooms, too. It's actually pretty interesting and enervating. Arizona are just a bunch of xenophobic morons. Good job guys!

Mrs Diver and myself are planning on moving to AZ in a few...Her family is from there, and her brother in law and step father are on the police and fire department in a border town. Needless to say, they both think this law sucks.

add to that, the backwards thinking of the education department...

I might be home schooling my kids...

Try reading a more balanced account then StinkProgress, that might help.

I actually do not buy AZ's argument in this case (and don't support it), but it's not nearly as draconian as that article makes it out to be.

Like the WSJ which originally reported the story, and from which most of the information comes from? Right.

Arizona Grades Teachers on Fluency - WSJ.com

Ha ha - when the US needs to improve scientific achievement Arizona shoots itself in the foot. Ever take college or post grad math or engineering? If you get a teacher who is a native speaker you're lucky. But once you get used to the accent there's no problem at all.

    Huh? 64% supported the law.

Arizona Voters Favor Welcoming Immigration Policy, 64% Support New Immigration Law - Rasmussen Reports

and the governor got a 16% bounce after signing it into law

Election 2010: Arizona Governor - Rasmussen Reports

Now I hope you are saying the 30% that oppose the law better get started fighting it. Unless, you are spouting off the same stupidity that you were around the time of the election and the "30%" Either way, this is probably here to stay and may even spread to other states!!!!!

I tend to agree with you but I do support the ethnic thing to an extent. With the school assembly lines producing such a massive amount of retards there should be more emphasis on other classes. How about we have seniors that can read...

Only 16% of Black high school seniors and 20% of Hispanic high school seniors scored at or above proficient on the 2005 NAEP reading test, compared to 43% of Caucasian students (NCES, 2007).

    http://www.betterhighschools.org/docs/NHSC_HighSchoolLiteracy.pdf

 Really??? Maybe we should cut back on those ever important ethnic studies and focus a little more on reading. I wonder if it's hard getting through life if you can't read. How about getting a job? 16, 20, and 43 percent are awful awful numbers.

You are slightly off base here. Actually, you are quite close with the nobody comment. Your sentence should read 16% of Black, 20% of Hispanic and 43% of Caucasian students read in an ethnic studies course. Good thing for those ethnic studies. :rocker:

It's not a black white yellow brown thing...high school grads can't f'ing read better than 5th graders. Since you are getting hung up on the colors how does this work? In a non-weighted average of black, hispanic, and white high school grads, 26% scored at or above proficient on the 2005 NAEP reading test.

Civil Rights, Slavery it will be there but it won't be constantly rammed down their kids throats trying to make them feel guilty for things that happened long before they were born, it will simply be taught as it should be taught "a wrong that has been righted" which brings to mind when American schools teach kids about Slavery do they mention the fact that the Slaves own people rounded them up and sold them like cattle to The Slave Trader, it is a very interesting fact in the story of Slavery.

Was America the only country that had slaves, I'm not very well educated.............

While I don't agree with a lot of this ...

I have over the years here been very sympathetic to people from Central America here.

I'm in some ways happy to see what Arizona is doing because this situation needs attention. It's a situation that is beyond belief really especially in light of the increase in terrorist communications and networks.

I hope this forces the government's hands into having a good fair policy so that many of those here can remain here and those that are not here have little chance of getting in at all.
