Daniel Klein: Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? - WSJ.com

Pretty interesting article about just how clueless the lefties are when it comes to basic economics, not surprising given what I've read here posted by libs.

    Onto the Celts-Lakers now.

The problem is their answer to every single question was "tax the rich."

Its cute when someone actually tries to convince people that the mouth breathing idiots who listen to Rush Limbaugh are in fact, not mouth breathing idiots.

The only way you can succeed with this test is if you're of the opinion that third world workers aren't being exploited and that the economy was worse in the 80's than it is today.

Seriously there agent 13, are you fukcing kidding or what?

This report doesn't mesh with sdaniels' warped perspective on things, so he had to default to his usual mention Rush Limbaugh response which, of couse, has absoultely nothing to do with the study.

Let's count the logical fallacies here...

    1. Red herring.
    2. Ad hominem.

Nice. Two sound logical fallacies in one post.

Of course, of course, conservative media outlets have no choice but to distort the truth. Seems to me that Republicans more and more engage in the kind of disinformation that the Communists used to engage in. For instance, why did the WSJ throw out the other 8 questions? This sort of subterfuge may serve to cover up the fact that until Obama the worst deficits came under Reagan and Bush and it remains true that the worst recessions were the result of Republican economic policies, but this sort of dishonesty simply supports the premise that the Republican Party's moral decline continues unabated.

FiveThirtyEight: Politics Done Right: Are You Smarter Than a George Mason University Economics Professor?

Here's what Klein and Buturovic did. They took a survey using one of Zogby's internet panels, which is by far the worst polling instrument that they could have selected. The panel was not weighted and was not in balance. For example, McCain led Obama 49-43 among respondents to the survey, even though roughly the opposite outcome was observed in the actual election -- and only about 4 percent of the respondents were Hispanic and only 39 percent were female. Then they asked 16 "questions of basic economics", as the Journal's sub-head describes them, and arbitrarily included eight of them in their analysis but threw the other eight out.

    Loonism (liberalsim)
1 Telling you who to bring home to dinner
2 Put the cop in jail turn the criminal loose
3 Tax "rich people" who earned their money then give it to the wino under the bridge.

    Aha.

I see Patters beat me to the punch re: Nate Silver. Perhaps the right-wing cognescenti on this forum might try actually, I don't know, reading the survey methodology before exposing themselves yet again as the fools they really are.

Here are a the questions asked in the survey, nothing very ambifious here unless you aren't as smart as a 5th grader, of a left wing blog.

Funny how the elfty site didn't even get the questions right as an example from Patyters link:

Any logical person would of curse realize that biggest market share was a necessary but not sufficent condition for a monopoly, only ambigious if one doesn't think clearly.

Actually they did give the respondents leeway by allowing them to choose between strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. Neutral didn't count as a wrong answer.

The only real issue is the skewed sample population. But unless you think that liberal women and Hispanics know more about economics then conservative women and Hispanics (which I don't know why that would be the case) then this is irrelevant.

I don't make too much of it though. It isn't a sign of intelligence. It could be a sign that conservatives are somewhat more educated in term of economics/business. Or it could simply mean that people allow moral beliefs to cloud their judgment. A poll on social issues may be directly opposite to this one.

+1 and that echoes exactly what I thought. There is absolutely nothign confusing about that question - at least not to anyone with the logic and reasoning skills of the average first grader.

Maybe it's just me, because I am used to taking standardized tests for licensure. But the question they call "confusing" is actually extremely easy to understand and solve.
