I don't know about now, but one of the most famous is certainly Pat Tilman.

Why would anyone have to mention their religion or their lack of in order to play football?

    Why would anyone care?

Perhaps because we're subjected to watching prayer circles in virtually every single game on tv.

I think a more interesting topic would be....

"Do people of faith bother atheists more than atheists bother them?"

I really like that topic. My "guess" is that faith bothers atheists more than atheism bothers people of faith....but it's a tough one because we're all biased to some extent.

No ones belief bothers me at all unless they try to convice that their's is the right one. Falth or lack of it should be kept to oneself as it's purely a private issue.

I think it's the other way around. I think most atheists really don't care if people believe and in fact may even feel a little envy, since true faith resolves a lot of worries (fears of death, illness, loss, injustice, etc.). Certainly, in my work, I find myself embracing faith all the time even though I'm an atheist, since for many people faith is very healing. Of course, the fact that religious people are constantly shoving their faith in other people's faces (as in NFL prayer circles) is annoying, but in general it's atheists who have to learn to live in a religious world, not the other way around, so we are better equipped to deal with it. That said, there are extremists on both sides.

    Yeah, that.

Poor religious folks in this country...can't seem to get a break.

Nothing more annoying than an athelete after a big win saying, "I'd first like to thank my lord and savior, Jesus Christ". Yeah. Jesus loves you more than the nickel back who you burned for the game winner. In fack, Jesus might have called for a pick on that back around five yards out, but he's...well, JESUS!

I would assume James Harrison, since he is about the biggest ******* retard in the NFL.

I'm not sure faith generally bothers atheists, but I would say the omnipresence of religion bothers many atheists at least to a degree.

But more than atheism bothers religious people? I don't think so. It's just that there is less atheism and more religious people, so the effect is seen less often. But when something happens like the "there is no god" billboards that were put up in the last year or two, look at how upset many people got.

Faith doesn't bother me any more than magma chambers under dormant volcanoes do. It's all harmless...until...

What bothers me is how the "faithful" put down those who don't believe in magic people in different dimensions. It also bothers me when it causes a change in or supports a law war and infringes on the rights of other people and me. Why shouldn't I be able to get a six pack before noon on Sunday? I gotta get my beer on Saturday night and I usually drink it that night and don't have any left for kickoff and so I gotta rush out between 12 and 1 to get more.

    Thanks a lot, Yahweh!

i believe that infringing on the rights of others is the worst thing you can do

you sound like you have a drinking problem lol

the smart person gets their beer well in advance and has proper restraint to use it when they need it

    it's called will power.....

All I know about sports and religion is when I hear of a Jewish hall of fame thing. They are such a small number of course and they take great pride in their famous athletes from around the world. Other than that - like who really cares is someone is an atheist - that is some crazy sh!t.

Religion or lack thereof is becoming a very popular topic on this board...
