Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

I don't see it happening really, regardless of whether or not Maroney can be an every down back, he still possesses a skill-set that, when healthy, no other RB on the pats can match.

I think he'll play out his contract here, but if his production pick up he's probably gone after that.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

Whether it can happen or not, I would not at all be sad to see him go, especially if we're talking about a way to work it out with JP. I feel like I'm really over LM at this point. He's been a constant disappointment and the only time that I was ever happy with him (outside of his rookie season) was in the AFCCG against the Chargers where he just took the game over at the end. Other than that, there's been little for me to be happy about with his performances.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

Not too keen on this source...not happening..not now...I agree they will keep him around to see if that first year bingo can return. With a compliment of backs as he has a skill set others do not...as Lckdwn6 said. He could be a much dangerous back..and as I said could!! Maybe a 3rd down back to follow in Faulk's steps. No no trading him this year...makes no sense.

He's not going anywhere, at least this year. If he flops or gets injured this year then I don't think he'll be back next year.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

Why would we want to get rid of a guy who plays under a very cap friendly contract and who has to prove himself this year??? He won't bring us a second rounder, so no way we're going to deal him now. I don't think he's the answer, but we shouldn't deal him when his value is down.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

Well, that makes sense. The Panthers don't need a RB. The Pats would need to free up cap room to get Peppers and trading away Maroney would INCREASE the Pats' cap by about $900k by trading him. Maroney's trade value is at a low point and the Pats would get minimum value for Maroney. Maroney is the only RB on the Pats' roster capable of carrying the load who is under 32 years of age.

Seriously, Between DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, they amassed 2,351 rushing yards and 28 rushing TDs. Where exactly would Maroney fit into their RB tandem? Since the guy doesn't play special teams most likely as an inactive insurance policy. So what kind a value would that make Maroney to them? The equivalent of a seventh rounder? Maybe a sixth if they were feeling generous. How is that sweetening the pot to get Peppers?

Funny, the Panthers have a far better RB situation than the Pats do yet this writer thinks that the Pats would be willing to part with Maroney who will be fighting for the starting role while the Panthers would find him more valuable as an insurance policy just in case part of one of the best (if not the best) 1-2 RB tandem suffers an injury that sidelines one of them more than a game or two. That makes sense.

Talk about reaching for a story. Maybe the Pats will trade Tom Brady to the Colts for Freeney so the Colts will have Brady for insurance if Manning goes down.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

BTW, the author's though is flawed right off the bat since he came up with this theory in trying to figure out a way to free up cap space to acquire Peppers. Trading away Maroney would achieve the exact opposite of what the author was trying to achieve.

The article crashed and burned with the first sentence of the second paragraph.

I've not been entirely happy with Maroney thus far, but he's clearly got a shed load of talent, and we should give him every chance to get over the injuries and show us exactly how good he can be.

The kid has a career average of 4.4 yards a clip, we need to give him the ball more.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

Well, while the Colts would be taking a big risk, I don't see why New England would balk.

That Brady clown only threw for 76 yards all last year.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

Ah , we might have something here Tanked! Brit says, get him more carries. That is not happening if the backs staying in front of him are healthy. His CAP hit is $700k, it's true. Jones lost $8m on T.O. and Bowlen lost $1.95 on Cutler. $700k is not a deal breaker.

O.K. Cousins, let's digest this. Maroney is a good back under the right system, and the Pats ain't it. Why on earth would you very intelligent posters want to have the kid sit behind three other backs, further diminishing his value now and he's gone in 2010 anyway.? You need to convince me about why the Pats would not take a pick or trade him. So far....you got nothing. Help me here. This kid needs to reinvent himself and it is not a sure thing he ever starts in our backfield. Some have tried to sell me on lets keep him as a kick returner. I can't see keeping a former first round choice as a returner for the sake of keeping him. Fred Taylor did not come here to sit. His carries will eat into Maroneys. Maroney will not play hurt (not that he should if he really is but he has been hurt every year). Some have said, keep him for a third down back. He has mediocre hands, Cousins. His pass blocking is not his strongest suit.

I agree Carolina is a bad fit, but AZ might not be. SS Adrian Wilson makes sense. He is 29 but should have two or three years left. He is 6' 3" and 230 lbs with 4.49 speed. He will clobber you in the Rodney way. The Cards are having big problems with trying to sign Dansby and Bolden. Wilson is up and he is an FA after this year. He is disappointed about not being on deck. The AZ fans say get something for him now. Thoughts on the Pats as a trade partner with AZ getting Wilson for Maroney and a pick?

Perfectly put. Couldn't agree more. What a terrible fit. I'm all for giving Maroney another chance. Can't hurt.

Yeah as much as we were talking yesterday about this, BJGE, etc--I'd have to sincerely agree with you here. This article dosen't make much sense at all. And I probably would agree that Carolina has the best rushing tandem in the NFL right now. I also think they are fine with Peppers cap hit this yr too, but that's a whole other issue:)

Bill would only take the cap hit for his binky...Ed Reed. ;)

This is what I love about the internet:

It's given legions of armchair idiots with drive a platform...

As for it's appearing on patriots.com...always be mindful that the Kraft Media Group lies outside the Belioli pervue (as well as inner circle) which is generally evident via lack of accountability and unbridled good old fanboy/critic knucklehead mentality that unit exhibits more often than not.

Re: Are the New England Patriots Ready To Deal Laurence Maroney?

My take on LoMo is this. Yes, he is talented, but not as a Patriot. He just dosen't have the maturity level or drive that this system uses or needs. I would get him a few really good games to get his value up and then ship him out. JMHO>
