I was wondering if NFL contracts are insured against injury like in MLB? If Brady isn't healthy going into next season could his salary be paid by insurance, giving the Pats room to franchise Cassle for next season?

It doesn't matter where the money comes from; if Brady receives his salary, it counts against the Pats' salary cap. [And, BTW, almost half of his 2009 cap hit is dead money that's already been paid out.]
