    Are Chad Ochocinco's Days Numbered?
    By: Ian Logue

Acquiring Chad Ochocinco seemed like a good idea at the time. Unfortunately through six weeks of the season fans have to wonder if his days are numbered....

Well...if he gets cut or traded on Friday, his days would number exactly 85.

Not that I want it to happen but it would be ironic.

    Oh, wow, really? Yikes.

I'd say the answer to this question is probably yes. There's a lot of chatter about it and seven snaps just is not good at all.

I don't know why they made this trade in the first place (it never seemed necessary), but it certainly wasn't for him to be a #1 or #2 receiver THIS year.

After all, it's fairly clear that Welker and Branch have those locked down, and with GRONKnandez, you're just not going to see tons of 3+ WR sets.

Don't any of you care about WR depth? How about back in 2009 when Welker went down? That was week 17 of the season and most of us knew that we were in trouble going in to the play offs. Unless we can trade chad to make a solid upgrade to the defense, there is no reason to trade or cut him.

I agree with you. The trade made no sense to me. Chad has never been a burner and hasn't run the sharpest of routes. Price, who can stretch the field, seemed ready to start contributing. 5+ million seemed like a lot to give a declining 33 year old WR.

That said, I think BB's already committed to Chad. Most of the money is gone so why not keep him for insurance. At this point, I'd be happy with 3 or 4 catches a week.

I thought Chad might be getting it a bit with a few first down conversions, a few nice catches here and there. But then yesterday he didn't do anything save a penalty and a botched route. That's just really discouraging.

Belichick isnt the type of coach to "commit" to someone just because he was paid more $$ than the others.

Price found the field for a snap yesterday...so, its possible that Belichick may have been hesitant to play him over ocho because he's been injured and doesnt know what he can give him yet(especially in a close game like yesterday)...while ocho at least has come out and been able to grab a couple of first downs(not last night, but other games)

I'm expecting that Bill will evaluate our WR's this bye week and figure out a role for price, ocho etc. and whether one or the other deserves more snaps....if Price proves to bill hes healthy and can produce, he will get more snaps....parcells said he thinks price will be the breakout player this year and thats a big statement coming from him, so hopefully he can prove him right

right now IMO Hernandez is our 3rd wide receiver basically....he might be a TE in name...but we line him up on the outside like WR and he runs routes like one

Right. Belichick has a Bachelor's degree in Economics. He knows what sunk costs are. Ochocinco's signing bonus is one such example. A draft pick used on a given player is another.

That being said, Ochocinco's not going anywhere.

The money is gone. That was part of the trade/deal in absorbing his contract from the Bengals.

Absolutely no reason to cut or trade him now. We would get nothing.

Quoting a poster from another board - because I didn't get to listen in today

Reminds me a little of the Milloy situation where players and coordinators and personnel people were oblivious and considered him a roster lock only to have Bill cut him because his production didn't warrant his cap or cash cost. BOB tried to fall on his sword for Chad today claiming it was his fault he ran the wrong route...and when you're paying a player $6M this season having Caserio call him a great practice player is damning a ten year veteran WR with faint praise.

I'm sure for the price they expected him to at least push Branch for touches. Thing is even when he isn't targeted Deion is doing all the little things right to contribute. And a guy like Slater at least plays on all 4 ST units...

Well, that's about as close as BB is going to get to saying Chad is playing friggin' awful, he's nearly invisible, what the hell else do you expect me to do with him, dude can't even run a simple out pattern.

    yup, pretty telling comments.

I wouldnt be surprised after the Bye if Taylor Price/Edelman start to get the majority of 3WR snaps

My understanding is that we reworked his contract which increased the value. Correct me if I'm wrong.

heres a larger comment from Belichick on Ochos limited snaps

he skirts around it, but the feelign I get is that Ocho isnt making the most of his opportunities, and if he isnt....thhen other guys like Edelman and Price will start to get his opportunities

It's all Chad's fault, guys. He does not want to play football anymore. When you lack focus and preparation, it shows on the field. You can take a look at his off the field activities and it's obvious that he has his mind on other things. Let me just say I am glad he is not in Cincinnati anymore and the Bengals are making along just fine without him.
Is he past his prime? Yes.

We are getting nothing. Well actually we're losing a roster spot.

Not true, 1,2 3 who cares. Bottom line - the Pats didn't give this guy 5 million (among the top paid receivers in the league) for production in 2012.
