THE Archbishop of Canterbury has said that the United States wields its power in a way that is worse than Britain during its imperial heyday.

If the guy truly feels this way, then he is a moron of monumental porportions. He clearly is beyond clueless about history, and how the Brits massacred people in their drive to colonize the world. The guy is an imbiscile, period. Some people need to learn history before they make utterly retarded statements. It was the US who forced Churchhill to sign off on British Imperialism in signing the Atlantic treaty, by threating to not enter the war. This dude is an idiot.

    Atlantic Charter:
``They will respect the rights of all peoples to choose the form of government under which they will live; they will to see the sovereign rights and self-government restored to those who have been forcible deprived of them.''

Churchill: ``Mr. President, I believe you are trying to do away with the British Empire. Every idea you entertain about the structure of the postwar world demonstrates it.... But in spite of that, you constitute our only hope. You know it. We know it. You know that we know that without America, the British Empire won't stand.''

He has the same myopic vision as the people calling Bush the "worst President" of all time... These people honestly believe human history began in 2001.

It's actually a very interesting sociological study of how people behave. People always are ridiculously skewed to the present day and think that what they are currently experiencing is the "best" or the "worst" that ever was. I think it's a combination of ignorance of history plus over-inflated ego of self importance. They cannot comprehend that the issues they face every single day will be nothing more than a footnote 50 years from now.

For example, I made an interesting observation of this phenomenon over in the Pats forum. Someone made a list of "Top 10 Worst NFL draft busts of all time". The NFL has been drafting since 1938, but every single one of this person's busts took place since 1989. That is the same type of skewed mentality that we see dominating public discourse.

People tend to have too much of a what have you done for me lately mentallity. They look at issues too emotionally, and don't do enough to consider either the depth of history, nor the long term ramifications an issue or topic might represent. They so despise the current situation that they ignore both history and logic.

Hoo-boy, what you said! Myopia, self-obsession, ego-centric -- whatever you call it, we've been infected with this bug for several decades now. The other shoe is going to drop, soon.
