Anyone been tuning into EEI's Salk and Holley instead of Felger and Mazz?

Since the Sport Hub started, I've spent most of my sports radio/listening time there. But the last week or two as soon as Gresh and Zo end at 2:00, I'm over to EEI instead of listening to the two piles of sh1 t that are Felger and Mazz.

Salk and Holley are still finding their groove a bit, but I like Holley much better when he's not paired with Ordway. Salk's okay so far too, in my opinion.

Anyone else enjoying the break away from The Big D'oh! and the two on 98.5 who's show should be called "let's take a big dump on the Patriots organization EVERY day from 2-6, like clockwork show"?

Cannot stand Felger and Mazz... so no changes here.

IMO the biggest mistake EEI made was taking out Dale Arnold(voice of mature reason) and moving Holley (voice of intelligence) to later in the day..

I listen to Gresch and Zo, sometimes they can be really good.. but get tired of the sophomoric humor. The morning is a no brainer, Toucher and Rich has it all over the Soccer Moms..

Find myself listening to sports radio less and less, maybe because of Pats off season...

Me too. I used to regularly tune in to 98.5 on the way home but stopped during AFCCG week. Haven't tuned in since. Maybe I'll give 93.7 a try. I've really never liked any show on there but haven't given Holley and Salk a try.

I don't like Salk. He's well informed, and not all of our radio and TV guys can say that about themselves, so he gets points there. But he's cut from the same mold as the guy they just dumped - Ordway - in that he forcefully dominates the conversation, talks over Holley all the time, and sounds disingenuous all too often, like he's simply arguing for arguments sake.

One of the many things I like about Holley is that he exudes a joy for sports, the same kind of jaw dropping wonder all true sports fans share when watching an incredible play. Salk, again like Ordway, doesn't make me feel he's really into watching athletes perform beyond that it gets him a paycheck.

Pete Shepherd, while provincial, and occasionally over dramatic, had a much more natural, energetic, and respectful back and forth with Holley.

And what's with flying in a motor mouth from out of town (yes I know he used to work ESPN Boston radio) and giving him the first name on the show? Holley has almost single-handedly saved that station from getting blown out of the water by the Sports Hub and his repayment is second chair to the new guy? Obviously, management at WEEI is where the real problems exist.

I guess I am in the 'listen less' category. I have tried S&H a bit, but not really enough to form an opinion.

Me too. Then, and I should have known better, happened to check out Felger and Mazz after Brady did his new deal.....and of course Mazz was mouthing off on what a stupid thing it was for the Patriots to do. turned it off after in about 30 seconds and haven't tuned in since.

Sports radio mostly just fills up my commute time now, so I switch back and forth and listen to whoever is not on commercial break and/or who is talking about something I care about.

In the mornings that's impossible, because my choices are political nonsense or two guys giggling about their friend Adolfo :p

I listen to whoever is talking Pats or Bruins and as soon as they start on the Soxs I flip the dial. Celtics it depends on the topic.

I'm considering it. Only tuned into Felger and Mazz once since the Welker debacle and they were actually trying to blame the Bruins for the Iginla fiasco; I was done after that. Heard decent things about Salk and Holley.

That's where I am at. Don't like baseball, indifferent about hockey. Love pats and follow Celts, Euro soccer fan as well(Mia San Mia). I wont even bother tuning anytime soon since I know there is no pats talk. I will tune in day before draft and after then done until pats are on the scene again.

So when Pats talk is on...

    10-2 - Gresh and Zo
Guys that know football period. I am not interested in hearing a baseball guy talk football he knows at best as much as me.

    2-6 - Salk and Holley

Lets be honest what good is it listening to Felger & Mazz. All you get is a controversial point that Felger beats to death and Mazz agrees with. It got old fast. "Cap is crap", "Why cant the pats be more like the Jets" individuals who offer absolutely nothing. The alternative cant be that bad and Holley had inside access at one point.

I think it's pretty clear to me who you tune in to when pats talk is on.

I consider Felger the biggest phony in the history of the Boston media. Early in his career, I enjoyed his work. But, unfortunately, he discovered that playing the contrived contrarian role is more lucrative than being honest. His supporters, particularly those on the Sons of Sam Horn board, remind me of the cult members on the TV series "The Following."

Couldn't agree more with this assesment. Although to make the move to remove Ordway for Salk to boost ratings is a head scratcher.
I don't know why they didn't just go with Pete Sheppard in the afternoon people want local passionate reasonably smart regular guy talking sports then some rented cookie cutter proffesional smart ass know it all like Salk.

I'll tell you one show that I find entertaining and fun is saturday morning Mustard and Johnson show on eei.
    Otherwise my lineup is.
    D&C
Mutt and Merloni this time of year about 70/30 over Gresh and Zo, and just the opposite during football season although I can't stand Gresh.
Felger and Mazz most of the time until either station starts talking basketball.

    Great post. Agree completely.

Holley is the star of that show and the reason people tune in, I was surprised to see the name order of the show

Not that I listen a lot, but when I do 98.5 is my go-to. I switch up depending on topic or commercials.

I must be in the minority cuz I enjoy Felger. You need a 'villian' because it keeps the talk interesting. I honestly believe that he takes the negative view a little further than maybe even he believes because he knows it makes for better radio. If you are pissed off and impassioned by what he says, positive or negative, then he's done his job. He's not afraid to be the target. He knows his role and plays it perfect. I don't want to listen to people that agree with me. I want my opinions to be challenged.

Holley is the anti-Felger and it works. He's truly a fan of sports and a positive guy. I would say he's like Felger in that he's willing to raise questions from a fresh perspective, but he play's it off as more of a Devil's advocate than a 'villian'. I hold him in as high regard as Felger and maybe a little higher if you figure that he's more appealing to the masses. But I still default to Felger for my listening.

Look at the news media in general... we complain that it's nothing but bad news and contrived drama, but if it was all happy stories and saving kitties in trees, no one would watch. Holley is like the news we say we want, but Felger is the news we gravitate towards.

Mazz does nothing for me. Felger's 'yes-man'.

Salk - I agree he's like Ordway without the condescension. He does talk over Holley way too much. Still an improvement though.

Salk's horrible. I'm now at the point where I usually listen to WFAN or put on music, which is fine. I get enough sports talk from 10-2.

Holley was better at the noon shift with Arnold. He spent a lot of his time cutting Ordway down to size once he made the move. Now that the bloated one is gone... Salk is younger, a bit more modern in outlook, more kind with stupid callers. Basically a decent guy. Not sure if he'll grow on me as he develops his own voice. Somehow Holley seems more tossed off to the side - so far.

Mazz attempts to pay attention and grow over time. Felger is an arsonist/pig piler that contradicts himself over time to near totality. He's got no idea of the NBA whatever, yet still proffers opinions.

I prefer the EEI set at this time slot. I take the 98.5 pair at noon because Mut is a pathetic copy cat of whomever he respects more than himself - which is everyone. I can hear him at age 11 now "Hey Lou, whaddya think?" Lou: "Well XYZ". Mut: "Yeah, me too Lou, me too!".

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than listen to either morning show. WEEI tends to be stronger on weekends for baseball. They both suck at everything else - not counting hockey which I know nothing about.

oops, off topic... so sue me.

Sure thing. You'll be getting a letter from Jaroslawitcz & Jaros, LLC in the next few days.

On topic, I used to really look forward to my afternoon commute to listen to sports talk. I truly haven't missed it since I stopped back in January. Maybe I'll start again soon with the draft coming. Is anyone talking about that on the radio or is it all Sox now?

You guys are not motivating me here to listen to Salk. I'm sticking to SIRIUS NFL radio off season and listening to Rush.

    I kid.

something about salk's voice annoys the heck out of me. merloni bugs me too. he should stick to being a baseball expert. forget 98.5. holley's the only listenable person on either station, though i do like shep. it's really sad. weekends are a mishmash.
