I'm not sure what was wrong with the team on this day, but they looked like hot garbage in this game. Brady didn't look very good, the offensive line couldn't run or pass block, the defense got absolutely run over on the ground (Foster averaged 6.0 YPC), and they got torched through the air outside of one play by Darius Butler. But I wasn't starting this thread to bring up bad memories. I wanted to know what you guys thought of Hoyer in his limited time at the end of the game? I didn't think he set the world on fire, but I thought he looked pretty solid, zinging and completing passes at multiple levels on the field. Granted, he was going against a soft Prevent D, but I still thought he looked pretty solid. What about you guys?

That game made me think that Hoyer has quite a bit of potential. I hope I'm right and that he reaches it someday (possibly even in a Patriots uniform).

he also got a series or two in the middle ofthe game. He didn't look terrible.

I will chose to focus on a few of the positives that I saw flipping between this and the sox.

Two TDs from Fred Taylor maybe he can carry that over and have a healthy year. edit just took a quick look at the stats and he was 7 for 33 with a fumble but did have the 2 tds one of which was a twelve yard run.

Edelman after a season dealing with his arm but also giving him time to develope as a WR and he had an awsome game and if that is evidence of where he is heading as a player we could have something real special and at the very least we seem to have a pretty good player.

Just watched it. Hoyer showed good form and motion. It was too bad he couldn't connect with Edleman during the last drive to make it interesting. IMO that last offensive drive demonstrated how some passes to the TE position would have bought the defense up giving receivers some room to breath. Wheatly and Wilhite didn't impress. Sometimes the run blocking looked great, but they didn't stay with it. The way Brady was shuffled in and out fell in step with the inconsistency the whole team played with.

I've become a fan of Hoyer's. Didn't think he'd make the roster at first, but he's played well every chance he gets. During that game, there were a few plays that were just a bit off. But you can see he's making the correct decisions, which is important. I think he's a solid back-up, and I wouldn't be afraid to go with only 2 QBs again this season.

But I hope I don't see him playing a single meaningful down.

One thing I noticed was that Brady had a lot of time against a pretty good front four. Not much open though. The play that lost us the game was Butler's PI on Andre Davis. I hope someone told him he shouldn't treat JAGs that can't catch like they're Randy Moss.

part of it I think had to do with keeping the steelers out of the playoffs. with the pats and bengals losing in week 17, the steelers were denied a wild card spot. no one wanted to play them first round.

This was probably the most disappointing game of the 2009 season.

I was there, and I haven't rewatched it, because I've managed to avoid seeing the Welker injury so far.

    Great crowd, by the way.

Yeah. That was just a huge disaster all the way around. But there were a couple of bright spots, one of which was our back-up quarterback.

Saw much of it, yes. No Wilfork, no Warren, Mayo still less than full speed

I don't think that defense on the field is a representation of what we will see this year.

Having said that, the game did help emphasize how important it will be for someone to step up at DE and OLB. If that happens, with improved IL and DB play, the defense will be very different than what we saw in that game.

I seem to remember BJGE putting in a monster hit/block for the second TD. I haven't seen the game since but that stood out.

As for Hoyer. He was solid, and did everything he needed to do.

I watched the 2nd half and as I was watching, I kept thinking this was the blueprint for the Ravens mauling of our defense.

Thanks for bringing this up. I watched it on my dvd recording last night (started
it way after the WW injury) and it was interesting to look at Hoyer under fire.
It will be interesting to see if he gets more time running the offense this year
in real games, as well as pre-season. From this small amount of playing time he
certainly looks like he has the tools and some promise.

I didn't re-watch the game, but I do remember Matt Schaub throwing to whomever Wilhite was supposed to be covering for pretty much the entire second half.

I too thought he played well. He made a great throw to Matthew Slater toward the end of the game that was called back by an unnecessary holding penalty on Steve Neal. Just a shame that it was called back as it would have put the pats in the red zone with plenty of time left.

It seemed pretty clear to me that whatever happened in this Texans game carried right over to the playoffs. Oline was getting blown up, receivers not getting open, defense playing soft, etc. I predicted to my friends that the Pats would lose to the Ravens and much of it had to do with their performance in this game. We simply could not win away games in 2009, which seemed to prove both to fans and the Patriots themselves that the team lacked mental toughness.
