NEW YORK - Oil prices rose sharply Friday on news that a ship under contract to the U.S. Defense Department fired warning shots at two boats in the Persian Gulf. Retail gas prices as expected rose further into record territory, nearing $3.60 a gallon.

Crude prices rose on initial reports that a U.S. ship had fired on two Iranian boats; the news raised concerns that a conflict between U.S. and Iranian forces could cut oil supplies from the region. A Navy spokeswoman said the origin of the boats was unclear
I like the " UNCLEAR NATURE" of the boats.

Do you honestly expect an administration that is tied in closely with the oil companies to put a cap on their own profits?

"excuses," indeed... whatever is necessary to muzzle the truth...

the denial and speculation gets more amazing with each passing day... what a species we've become...

people think we can "demand our government put a cap on oil prices?" ...

just when are people going to accept the reality? it's all around us, staring us right in the face... wars, terrorism, famine, gas prices, food prices, pipedreams of coal expansion, an ongoing lovefest with the Saudis, paranoia regarding China and India, 9/11, pipelines over 1000s of mountainous miles, civil liberties crapped on, choosing Iraq while ignoring Darfur, ... or merely the fact that our leaders are acting like Wild West desperados in the face of countless Congressional inquiries.... Folks, there's a reason.

Heck, even the most vile member of the Bush League admitted it in London in 1999. ... yet all people can do is argue about the superficial reasons they're paying $75+ to fill their SUV.

Ask yourself: Do you honestly believe man is in control here? i mean, in control regarding the availability of our cheapest energy source? look, he's not... it's time to admit it... blaming him for using it all up and being too lazy to attempt to find a viable alternative 30 years ago (60?) when it would have mattered? OK, that's completely fair....

But, at this point, going forward, it's really laughable to insinualte that man can really do anything about crude oil prices if he wanted to... So, you're pissed about $4 gas? ... Here's a newsflash: It's going to get much worse, and quickly...

Instead, people prefer to insist that Big Oil is just sticking it to us, and can remedy the global phenominon in an honest instant... Meanwhile, everyone knows demand has no end in sight, while very few people recognize that supply has capped and will only decrease...

Civilizations will clash, and are already clashing...

The geology has spoken... the need for immediate conservation is a fact, a necessity, and a reality within a few short years (maybe 10-15 at most)... we're talking about rolling blackouts, food distribution problems, and a heavy reliance on regional horticulture... not just $9 gallon gasoline that might stall our Sunday drives to Maine...

You can trot out any economic model you like... Point to gold prices... Suggest it's OPEC, or the manipulative Saudis, or greedy Big Oil here in America, or the failing dollar, or 'ignorant liberals blocking ANWAR,' and whatever unsubstantiated nonsense you choice to subscribe to to tell yourself it'll all be OK.... You can even pretend Shale Oil is the solution... Or some mystery 10-trillion barrel pool that's about to be uncovered just under our Gulf of Mexico... or that fusion will save the day, or nuclear, or solar, or hydro... Those have all been covered, and the reality is that there's no quick fix, and there's nothing coming to the rescue ...

Sure, some of the richest elites will be fine, and survive the transfer from the oil age, ... but the majority of the poor will not be spared...

The reality is that we've used up over half the cost-efficient fossil fuels we're ever going to find. ... Ever... And yet we're exploding in population... We had a chance to do something about it in the mid-late 1970s when that president everyone loves to hate proclaimed it as fact... Yet, we quickly elected successive leaders who effectively ignored Peak Oil, and kept us stuck on the nipple of crude oil and beholden to the corporate profit that comes with extracting and refining crude oil... They've been selling our souls to the devil, essentially.

Go ahead. Pretend we found a miracle panacea alternate energy source tomorrow.... Now consider the 900 million combustable engine vehicles that would need to be transferred... Now consider plastics, food distributions, pesticides, medicines and everything else our daily lives relies on oil for... Just what is this magic new battery going to provide for mankind?

It will take 30-35 years to transfer to some new panacea energy source, if that's only if we found it and started tomorrow... Yet, we can't possibly recognize reality, and are locked in political gridlock, and arguing over the invasion of countries who have what's left of the cheap oil... Our leaders prefer to steal what's left to stave off the hell to follow, and effectively piss on the generations of our children, and, to a drastically larger extent, our grandchildren...

You really have to ask yourself: ... Will they ever forgive us?

Coming soon to a TV near you, the Prez will get up and talk about all the evil attacks from the Iranian Navy.. a navy which is probably less capable than our navy was before WWII... it is all part of the master plan. Nukes, Supplying the Iraqi's.. attacking our vessels.. sounds like we should go to war with them.
