That is the point. He wants to be the bada$$ so he doesn't have to go through this again. Kraft made it clear he was not happy with the punishment but upon reflection supported Goodell since it was a message to all 32 teams...sacrifice for the good of the league and all that happy nonsense. Reading between the lines...Kraft is NOT going to let his team become a punching bag for anyone.
In fact, I'll bet good money that Kraft has had a discussion with Goodell about the sieve-like control of information in the commissioner's office. Having the video leaked is inexcusable. How does Mortenson find out about a request for more material? Certainly not from the Pats FO. And then Goodell acknowledges it before the game instead of the standard "I don't comment on ongoing league matters." The Jets' latest protest is almost comical if it indeed came from "a high ranking league source".
The Jets season depends on the Pats falling apart. Did they discover new information in the last couple of days? If there are no repercussions for spurious accusations, this will continue to happen because the Pats' credibility with the general public has bottomed out. They can't publicly defend themselves without giving these accusations a life of their own. They are guilty by suggestion. "It looked like their offense knew exactly how to attack us" is now innuendo instead of a compliment to tireless preparation.
If the Jets have proof, they should have offered it last week. If they don't, they should be given a single warning about pulling this crap. Then penalties should be issued under the banner of preserving the integrity of the league. Having an environment where you can accuse anyone of anything without consequence is not the type of league Goodell has been advocating when talking about the Pats' punishment.
