Hmmm, if I had to choose the Thursday Night game we open the season with, I'd take the 49ers. Up and coming playoff team vs the champs, would be a good game.

I'd like to go to the Seattle game. I'm just hoping it's not too late in the year.

Home games: 49ers, Bills, Cardinals, Colts, Dolphins, Jets, Texans, 1 AFC West team (Chargers, Raiders, Chiefs or Broncos)

Away games: Bills, Dolphins, Jaguars, Jets, Rams, Seahawks, Titans, 1 AFC North team (Ravens, Bengals, Steelers or Browns)

Interesting that we go to Seattle again just like in 2008 ...

They changed it so east teams do not have to make SF/Sea away trips same with Oak/SD in the same season any more.

Seems like a fine time to remind anyone who is thinking about going to any of the road games that you can get lots of info about tickets, travel and tailgating with other Pats fans at the Patriots Tailgate Yahoo Group
    PatsTG : Patriots Tailgate

or the Patriots Tailgate Facebook Group
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/60720988355/

We'll have to wait til May to find out game dates but you can plan on there being a big party or two in Seattle for sure.

I know it's waaaaaay early but did anybody look at the strength of schedule?? You have 4 games against teams that are currently 0-5 ( Miami twice, Indy and St Louis) and a .417 opponent winning percentage...If Peyton doesn't come back, Indy looks much easier...

    Current record...
    Home: 49ers, 4-1
    Bills, Cardinals, 1-4 4-1
    Colts, Dolphins, 0-5 0-5
Jets, Texans, 1 AFC West team (based on 2011 final standings- SD?)4-1 3-2 2-3

    Away: Bills, Dolphins, Jaguars, Jets, 4-1 0-5 2-3 1-4
    Rams, Seahawks, Titans, 2-3 3-2 0-5
1 AFC North team (based on final standings-Balt ?) 3-1

    home 18-22
    away 15-24

    total 33-46 .417

Re: The Patriots 2012 Schedule (opponents & sites - some TBD)

But we get two and likely three west coast* teams traveling east...hopefully for a 1PM start...

*I know Arizona is NOT a west coast team but it's close enough....

Re: The Patriots 2012 Schedule (opponents & sites - some TBD)

Similarly Pats go to Oakland twice in a row this year.

I could be mistaken but I thought it was more about making travel relatively similar for teams within a division. Previously two teams would travel much further vs the AFCW (SD & Oak) than other division rivals (Den & KC). Same was true when playing the NFCW: two teams traveled to Seattle and SF, while two others in the same division only went to AZ and St Louis. This balance that travel a bit - at least until the next time a franchise moves.

    Patriots finalize opponents for 2012

The bulk of the 2012 Patriots' schedule had been known because of the schedule rotation, but the entire home-and-away portions of the schedule were finalized on Wednesday:

Home: San Francisco, Buffalo, Arizona, Indianapolis, Miami, New York Jets, Houston, one AFC West team (based on 2011 final standings).

Away: Buffalo, Miami, Jacksonville, New York Jets, St. Louis, Seattle, Tennessee, one AFC North team (based on final standings).

Seems a little easier than this years....

Can someone explain why we played Oakland away and will play KC at home?

I think I saw a thread on this a while back, but I can't find it.

The NFL uses a rotating schedule so that each team will play non-divisional teams home and away an equal amount of time (unless those teams are always finishing the same in their division and are in the same conference.)

In 2008, the Patriots played the AFC West; they played KC at home (the Brady injury) and Oakland on the road. According to this website, and I believe according to procedure, they should have played Oakland at home and KC on the road this season.

    johnnyroadtrip.com - NFL AFC East Schedule 2010-2017

Likewise, the Jets were switched, as they were supposed to play KC on the road and OAK at home.

Does anyone know why this was switched?

When we play the AFC west in the intra-conference divisional scheduling format. Wanted to split up the two west coast teams. Didn't want to make 2 west coast trips those years like 08.

Re: Can someone explain why we played Oakland away and will play KC at home?

More accurately, some teams whined about the possibility of having to go out west twice in one year.

As opposed to the Patriots who, when they had to play FOUR games on the west coast in 2008, wisely asked the league to schedule them back-to-back, so they'd only have to make two trips out west, and (B) basically moved their operations out west for the intervening weeks.

[It's actually just 'dumb luck' that the situation exists as it does; basically, when they set up the schedules, the NFL just listed each division's four teams alphabetically and broke them up first two, last two; it just so happens that in both West divisions, the two west coast teams end up in the same pair (Arizona/Saint Louis and San Francisco/Seattle; Denver/Kansas City and Oakland/San Diego).]

The Pats play all the teams in that division next year. (indy, Tenn, Texas and Jax). They rotate and play each division in the AFC once every three years and each division in the NFC once every four years.
