Didn't you get the memo? I don't know what you're trying to insinuate, but since Obama got elected, there can be no more racism. This must be attributable to something else.

    And it is.

Named in the lawsuit is Jason Gant, secretary of state and overseer of elections for South Dakota, and the commissioners of Shannon County, which is roughly contiguous with the Oglala’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and oversees state and national elections for it.

Gant is not just secretary of state but treasurer of Committed to Victory, a PAC whose purpose is “to elect Republican candidates,” according to documents Gant (as treasurer) submitted to Gant (as secretary of state) in 2011.

Nothing federal (or Obama-like) in the suit - simply a suit to get federal rights which are being denied on a local level.

Everyone knows it was a republican, had it been a democrat you would never have posted the story. Maybe Harry would have, who knows ;)

Of course I did, as the duplicity of the right and this attempt at racism is quite obvious...

Guess in the world of the right, blatant acts of discrimination are ok, because they are left or right...

Conversely, if this was done by a Democrat someone from the right would have posted it...

It is what it is, contentious politics..

But no commentary on this obvious discriminatory action towards the Ogala Souix...

Unreal ... bottom line is $$$. They think the state should provide the money to set up the election $10,000 - $15,000 and the state has a system where you pay and they pay you back ... how archaic is that? So in essence it seems to be discrimination according to wealth - if these people can drive and or travel it is easier to vote. If you can't drive or afford transportation then you are pretty much left to fund your own election.

You can't make this crap up ... all these years and discrimination is as rampant as ever.

The Liberal Democratic love affair with minoritys only exists with a chosen few.

The american Indian has been sh!t on for years, with only a few pointing out the double standard bigotry, Johnny Cash was one of them.

Replace Rodney King with "He who talks to rabbits" and you would never have heard about it, can you just picture them giving 4 million dollars to a drunken coke sniffing Indian who constantly kicks the sh!t out of his wife, even fracturing her legs and drives a hundred miles an hour through city streets.

The double standard in Racism is disgusting as are the phony pandering do-gooders.

Sorry, but I just ain't buying what you're selling. I don't believe for a single second that there is some polling place that is letting all the white people in 30 days in advance but not letting Indians in. These things are often decided at the local level, so it sounds like their local government just isn't open as long.

Is there any source more legitimate than one of the most radical, left-wing websites on the net? Because I would be very interested in learning the real story behind this.

I admit I am not sure what the story is, but I just find it hard to believe that if the story was true that it wasn't hitting the national radar. The MSM loves these sorts of "boy aren't white people evil!" stories even more than this forum's resident self loathing liberals.

OK now we're getting somewhere. So this decision was made by the Shannon County commissioners. I did a quick check and here are the names of the Shannon County, SD, commissioners:

    District 1: Bryan J Kehn
    District 2: Deloris Hagman
District 3: Eugenio B White Hawk
    District 4: Wendell Yellow Bull
    District 5: Lyla Hutchison

Sure seems to me like the native population is pretty well represented on that council. Your article says this was approved last month. Well let's check the minutes of that meeting! Oh gee look what we have here:

The motion was proposed by Wendell Yellow Bull and passed unanimously with members of the Civil Rights Division of the US Department of Justice in attendance.

I'm sure Wendell Yellow Bull and Eugenio B White Hawk are just a couple of white racist klan members trying to keep 'dem injuns from a-votin!

If you are going to provide 46 days of voting for everyone else in SD, you have to provide it for the Ogala Indians as well.. in this country all men are created equal, whether they are rich or poor..

This county is one of the three poorest in SD.. so change the law so everyone else in the state can only vote for 6 days..

Not everything is reported on Fox News or MSNBC... a lot of stuff flies under the radar.

Does it really matter who's doing it? If everyone else gets 46 days and Shannon only gets 6 days, there's a problem.

Just because someone of the same race, color or creed agrees to it doesn't make it legal.

If Maureen O'Shaunessy is my councilwoman and she proposes a motion that says all women in her district must vote before 5PM that doesn't mean that Mary Patricia O'Hara and I has been well represented or that Mary Pat and I agree with her or that the motion is a legal one.

The voters in question probably feel about as well represented by Wendell Yellow Bull and Eugenio White Hawk as you do by Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy.

The lawsuit itself does not mention these men by name - it specifically names only Jason Gant - but it includes "the commissioners of Shannon County," so I'd say the voters in this district are not in agreement with their representatives irregardless of the fact that you can't seem to wrap your head around politically motivated officials betraying what I can only speculate you are considering "their own kind."

Actually, yes, it does really matter who is doing it because you and the OP are trying to paint this as a nefarious conspiracy on the part of those eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil republicans.
The idiocy of this analogy shows the bankrupcy of your argument.

Fact is this motion was passed unanimously by a council with at least 2 Indians as sitting memebers. Fact also is that 2 members of the US Department of Justice, including one working for the division of civil rights, sat in on those proceedings without objection.

So to paint this as some sort of racist conspiracy is moronic, to say the least. But don't let facts get in the way of your neverending, obsessive and irrational need

Not sure anyone was "painting" anything.

Be that as it may, have you any proof that the Indians on the board are NOT Republicans?
